Mental health thread

It's easier said than done. My rational side tells that some doom-and-gloom posts from random social media users don't mean much, but my irrational side will obsess over them and think "but what if it will happen?????"

Man, having no self-control sucks.
I completely understand; I'm not trying to be one of those “Yoooo, just listen to my words and you’ll be fine” if that’s what I'm coming across as. ?

What-ifs are a bitch, and I'd recommend simply shifting attention; don’t push the thought away; just shift attention so you don't overthink it into fear.

Also acknowledge it if you can, notice it, and remind yourself that it’s a thought, not a prediction.

Everyone struggles with their thoughts; it doesn't mean you lack self-control; it just makes you human.

You’re not failing when your mind acts like that; you’re just learning how to cope with it.

Heh, that reminds of all the panic about Mayan doomsday in 2012.

Oh, don't worry, you didn't come across that way at all.

I like to tell myself that if my parents managed to have a good life despite living in a communist dictatorship and the constant threat of nuclear war hanging over them, so can I.

Haha. Yeah. Quick story:

Locals were religiously preparing for it. Next day it never came- Ghosttown. My wife had to work that day at her local shit job- tried to call in to say "The Rapture Took Her" , so she couldn't come in.

One thing you learn from cruising through the net and meeting people IRL is humans tend to exaggerate said events , especially on the internet I also need to remind this internet thing has a massive catalogue of different ideologies that you get exposed to why its important? Cuz that amount of information can feel overwhelming.

ALSO the internet has sizeable amounts of pure nihilistic and hedonistic practices and people It touched me and it was pretty bad to think that nothing matters cuz it drove me into a pit im still coming out from....all that can be a killer to your brain.

Thankfully this site is like what I always wanted a chill place with no constant fear mongering and people who actually have something of substance to say , so yeah the internet can destroy you mentally beware of it take a step back from all the culture war going on and even politics if needed just discuss with people around you I find that more civil and mindful than the net it helps a lot.

I've had to tune out of a lot of internet and social media lately because even knowing how bunk and exaggerated a lot of it is I still felt it negatively affecting my headspace. Anytime I use any social media now I bee-line straight to my hobby circles and tune everything else out.

It's insidious, I can't blame anyone for being affected by it. Its exhausting being pounded over the head by such negativity.

Feeling much better today, crazy how a good night's sleep and a lack of blinding pain can make you feel better, right?

I hope everyone else here is having a good day. It gets better.
I'm glad to hear it, boss! ::thumbsupwario

I'm so sorry to hear that. Is something troubling you?
Yeah... I'm way below the poverty line now. I used to swim by no problem with a few odd jobs and by developing an addiction to soup and water, but I'm simply not making it anymore.

I'm so sorry. Poverty really is a terrible thing to live through. I wish I could do or say more, but I know you got this. You're strong and I know you can make it!

You’re strong asf I know you got this in the bag.

You could also always sell drugs if it gets too bad! ??

I wish I could help you, but all I can do is this:

A couple of aphorisms that have helped me in the past:

- 90% of the way to success is just showing up.
- Often the mental labour of thinking about doing a task is far more demanding and time-consuming than actually just doing it.
- Don't compare yourself to others.
- Too much introspection can be just as detrimental to progress as too little.
- So many lives had to be lived so that you can live yours. Your mere existence is a miracle.
- No-one can read minds and we all experience life differently.
- Everyone knows at least one thing you do not. Always try to learn from others.

Sorry for the unsolicited advice. I hope it helps somebody else.

This. My God, this. How many times I've backed out of something because I thought it would be hard or I'd make a fool of myself, only to enjoy myself when I finally push through.

I would have already jumped from the Skyway Bridge if I were in your position @Waffles, but you can work it out 'cause you have the required INT stats for it. Fight it out fella

It's so exhausting trying to make someone see that he/she's in a toxic relationship... But well, people see what they wanna see

It's very easy to get blinded to someone's toxicity when you're in love with them, especially if the person is good at stringing you along. Poor self esteem doesn't help either.

Yes , you need to learn how to deal with the internet to browse it properly and filter the good from the bad the truth from the lie , we aren't immune to this constant fear mongering going on around the internet its better to avoid altogether for your mental health , so many online adopted the "its over" mindset despising and blaming society for everything wrong with them that is firsthand effects of the net.

Its pretty good you didn't go down that rabbit hole.

I wish I could be more okay with an uncertainty of the future like some people. At least it would help me with not having anxiety about social media posts and the news.
If it’s any consolation, I wouldn’t say I’m fully ok with it. I actually would prefer having some certainty haha. It’s just that I’m generally optimistic (but not blindly)

"Life never goes the way that you want, that's how it is.
No matter what happens, face it all head-on"

This is a short excerpt from Henry Miller's Tropic of Capricorn read aloud by a Mr. Campbell, who does a brilliant job imo. I really resonated with these words, and didn't expect the passage to end where it did
