Mental health thread

Just saying, many people here really seem to struggle on a fundamental level with themselves and don't know what to do with their lives and you also seem to be awfully young, it's really concerning to see

Maybe talk about it with your parents

When I was younger, I tried to talk to my parents. They would either dismiss my problems or tell me I'd get committed in an asylum for having depression.

Now, I don't tell anybody anything ever.

Well shit I'm sorry to hear that, did you ever try talking to them again as an adult about this?

I'm sorry to hear, did they actually say Asylum?

Yes. I know it's sounds unbelievable, but my parents grew up in a time when psychiatry was mostly used to silence dissidents rather than to help people.

No it's not normal even if they're old, my grandma doesnt friggin think of asylums is someone is depressed or has similar issues

But anyway don't completly close yourself, no other family? Anyone you trust?

Not really. I have one friend since my school days, but we don't talk anymore.

well dude, this goes to all the other young users; maybe instead of spending time on a game forum talk to either family or someone you trust, or Find someone you trust

You can't shut yourself in, like what's the end goal if you do? At best you'll become socially inept

Jokes on you, I've been socially inept since I was a kid! ::winkfelix

Guys if you feel like you want to vent but don't know where to go, you can shoot a DM to someone you can trust here. Hell, I don't mind being DM'd, I can't offer solution but I'm always willing to listen.

Also like I'm noticing a trend: did ANYONE who says they feel hopeless or dont feel comfortable with themselves, their body, etc have a good relationship with their father?

Same but that's why I was diagnosed as a teenager lmao

Just remember folks, the more powerful the tool, the greater the potential harm.

The internet is a wonderful and powerful place, but there is a huge potential for harm here.

Spending too long online can and will cause you to disspair, and you have to remember that behind every single avatar you're seeing, there is a real, thinking, feeling, breathing human being, even if they're acting like a retched hobgoblin.

Go outside. Touch grass. Talk to strangers in a Diner about how crap the coffee is. Hell, just visit a fucking store or spend time in your yard. Nature is scientifically proven to make you feel better simply by spending time in it, and FYI you can access the forum on your phone if you get withdrawals. Like Prism_Red says, there's always your friends on here to DM when it gets to be too much.

Never spend an entire day indoors, even if it's just 10 minutes

Also go to the gym

If you can'tm afford it jog

I thought you couldnt tell him anything

Ah, my apologies for not expressing myself clearly. When I said "my parents", I mostly meant my mother. The few times I shared my concerns with my father, he has actually been quite understating. I just don't feel emotionally close enough to him to do that often.

Dude talk to your dad, you're lucky enough to have him; mine died when I was little

I don't have a good relationship with my Dad cus he sucks, but I feel pretty happy with myself these days.

I understand the correlation, but I don't necessarily think it's always related like that.

Growing up with bad or absent parents is a death sentence to someone's mental health. I don't know what's worse between a bad father or a bad mother but they can probably screw you up equally, just in different ways

Glad to hear it (the you being happy with yourself)
Don't think it's always, but it def seems a big factor

I'm comfortable with myself, overly confident even, but my relationship with dad is, eh, it's hard to put into words, I have an extremely comical family dynamic.
Let's just say he is an actually competent and workaholic version of Homer Simpson.

TBF, I feel like I got away with it because I did have good adult male influences in my life growing up. I had a step dad who I got on with insanely well, I basically considered him my real father.

I know it's important to have both male and female positive influences in your life, I'm just not sure they both need to be parents.

I see a lot of millennials and zoomers being like "you dont need parents\fathers fuck em!!" and I think they're trying to feel less shitty, everyone needs a family it's in our nature
Would you Really feel so uncomfortable with yourself if you were loved from day 1? I really doubt it for almost everyone
