Mega Man Megathread

X4 also has the only story so far with less mavericks as bosses (Magma Dragoon, the Mushroom(?) and Sigma. The rest are just "Mavericks" by the power of the robot law even if they did nothing... really nothing)

Some of the MM11 robot masters are more MMX-sized than the chibi Classic MM proportions.

This is more of a post MM7 general direction no? Like TenguMan, Freezeman, Shademan and Swordman, like MM9/10 were chibi because its a game that tries to emulate the MM2 feeling no?

I can somewhat get it since MM7 was made around the MMX series but seeing both chibi and less chibi design is a bit inconsistent.

Unless they're "adult sized robots" in contrast of Megaman looking more like a boy or something.

It would be a good change all around, RMs have the possibility of having any kind of design that could exist and the more detailed art styles help everything.

The manga art style (I forgot the name ugh) though is still a favorite of mine.

I think is more to show that said robot has a different model than the rest. Reminder that almost all of the robots masters started with the same model, just that their "armor" gets the reference of what their powers are based on but they look very close to megaman

There is the humanoid "kid" body type (like Mega), the "adult/tall" body type (like Duo), the bulk body type (big robots, like Gutsman), female body type (Splash Woman, maybe Roll?), the animal/monster type (the mini boss and some main boss of the final stages), and the extra ones (those core robots that are made of random stuff around the stage)

The main feature from all the classic robot masters is the colored skin to hide their machine parts (like a colored suit that has been around in almost all megaman games for humanoid robots) and only their armor makes them look different

The more details a robot has is to show that it was created for something important or stronger (Bass is too cool for this and goes classic)

In the end, the blue kid bomber almost always kick their ass. Is funny to see new robots masters act like if Megaman isnt a seasoned robot destroyer

It's also because it shows that many RMs aren't made to be the usual Megaman destroyer and were made for other jobs until Willy happens, the variety of the new designs give each one their flair.

Is Megaman a war machine at the end? His adaptative abilities is quite unique.

Clown-man isn't a chibi one, SlashMan too, and others

He wasn't designed to be, but could learn to be, and due to his superior design had the potential to surpass all others even if he wasn't originally a battle robot / particularly strong. The Megaman X series really hammers it home with the comparison to Zero who's class S, while X is Class B to begin with. By the end of the game X becomes stronger (I think).

Interestingly the converse is true of Metalder (a metal hero not unlike your current avatar) designed to be a battle robot but very much learnt to become more human and enjoy / appreciate living in peace. Also came out in 1987, same year as Megaman

About X rank, is not that he becomes stronger or that Zero is better

Is just that X hates conflict and his personality made him stay lower in the ranks. But from X7 he decided to take stuff more serious after his retirement and got a rank up

The rank thing become pointless after Axl got in. X and Zero are the only option to deal with the big ass of Sigma since everyone else have the chance to become infected by him (the other one being Axl, but is hard to tell whats up with him and his power)

Zero just goes to the point to do his missions, even in the Zero series he is still the "tell me what my mission is"

Yes X is hesitant for fight and hence stays at class B but he actually does become stronger during the games. At the outset he's lacking basic abilities, like the dash, at the start of X1. It's also established that X gains new weapons and armour upgrades wheres as Zero only learns new techniques. X is building a new arsenal while Zero is simply honing his already established skills. Before X's upgrades he would likely be obliterated by Zero.

To properly answer the original question, despite adapting to become (the) strong(est?), I still don't think X would be classed as a war machine by the end, because he would still be capable of more than just fighting, and would choose another path as soon as peace is restored.

Not really. X5 and X6 (and Megaman Zero 2, in fact) confirmed that X armors and Zero weapons gets damaged at one point of each new game and their powers learned resets after a time (the only power they keep in X5 was that Soul thing used for a draw in the X vs Zero fight, but i found it too "in the need for the moment' to be important)

In X6 just at the start we get that the armor X has is just a crappy copy of the one he got in X5. Reason it was so nerfed and why he always gets a new one in each game

Zero also has the same problem when his weapon get an upgrade, it resets.

This is actually part of the worry Dr.Light had after he created X. Reason he decided to pass a program on him to make sure he doesnt go berserk and become the worst robot master. Luck comes when said program failed to awake him in the time he was planned and got more time to make sure he had no errors in his program

Thanks to this we got an even more pacifist version of Megaman that tries to find a better solution of the conflict (sadly, Sigma never gives up in hopes to break his idea)

Then Megaman Zero give us what could be a X that didnt got a program check. A robot so full of himself called a better version of the "hero" of humans that become racist to reploids

Even Zero found the whole thing a bad joke of X

How much stuff do you miss, guys? I kinda hesitate do put the equivalent of Megaman Itadaki Street (the first one you see in order. Fun fact: it's the first game where you don't use Mega Man as playable character), but I'm refusing to consider those two DOS games. How many of you actually do?

It kinda reminds me of Astro Boy who doesn't want to fight all the time, only when necessary.

If we're only counting games beaten to the end, and excluding collections and non-dumped/dumped-but-currently-unplayable games, then I'm missing:

Almost all mobile games
All Asia-only PC games
Medal Network Rockman.EXE
Mega Man's Soccer
Mega Man Battle & Chase
Street Fighter X Mega Man
Mega Man 3: Robots are Revolting
Mega Man for Game Gear
Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge and Rockman.EXE N1 Battle
Mega Man 2 and 3 Tiger Electronics handhelds
Mega Man 3 for PlayChoice-10
Wily & Right's RockBoard: That's Paradise
Mega Man X3 for Sega Saturn and Playstation
Super Adventure Rockman
BN3 White
BN4 Red Sun
EXE4.5
BN5 Team ProtoMan
SF Leo
SF2 Zerker x Ninja
SF3 Red Joker

Battle Chip Challenge was the first time i experience the pain of RNG and cheapness in a Megaman game

One thing was X6, at least you have some control over what you can do there. Battle Chip was more a hope for the best than a challenge at all

Just leave it to Ring

I'd try that football (or Soccer if you prefer) spinoff, reminds me of that Kunio Kun one.

I wonder, does Megaman X gets more and more easy after X3?

X4 you can go full suicide and still beat it like nothing

X5 only had the final stages

X6 comes with its owns problems, so is more a fake difficulty than a real one

X7 was more a test of the jump to 3D, but not really hard

X8..... i think this one depends if the player got all the options the game gives or decided to play as the girls with the hardest difficulty

Command Mission depends if you overlevel or decided to use Cinnamon ultimate weapon + all upgrades you got, she even makes the super boss a joke for a healer

I take both if using no armor X and just Zero with the basic saber in mind (again, X6 problems makes no armor X almost impossible to do on the final stages)

I think this is the reason the Zero saga started to add so much stuff to make things harder (by player choice)

this seems to be kind of a common trend; mainly if a game series is popular. mario games are easier after the snes, kirby games are pretty easy starting with kirby 64, pikmin is significantly easier from 3 onwards; fable started getting easier with the second game and the thrid one is a joke.
i presume the lower difficulty is to try and draw more people in; because an easier game is more accessible to those who really aren't into games. as far as i can tell.
