Mega Man Timelines #1 Mini-review

View attachment 95926

I didn't like this one as much as Mega Man Timelines #1, and it's not just because it's Mega Man X. Instead of telling an original story, this issue retells part of Mega Man X1's story, with X going through Chill Penguin's stage and fighting him. Because of that, the story felt way too "gamey" and a lot less interesting. Some of the dialogue is kind of clunky, and X is as whiny as ever (which might actually be a good thing for the comic, since it's in-character). The art is good, though, and the Maverick Hunter X Navigators cameo is appreciated.

Here's Chill Penguin making a stupid pun.

Maybe they're just testing the waters with something "safe" before going into something new, seeing the actual state the megaman franchise as a whole is... i wouldn't be surprised if they made this as a way to see if they can make more X related content and i don't mean a game doubt that's in the equation at this point.

I think timelines in platformers shouldn't be respected down to the letter.

Yes, a game like DK Bananza having a younger Pauline makes no sense but I'd take that over franchises that trap themselves with their continuity.

MMX and MM could have happened in two parallel timelines it wouldn't matter that much.

Finally, somebody who understands the Mega Man Timeline™ is dumb.

Timelines in a lot of media are often getting messed up.

That's why comics have a ton of reboots and talks about parallel universes (such as Earth-616) and nowadays even some old manga series get rebooted with newer animes.

Even if MMX references classic MM with Dr Light it could always be set in a continuity different from where Classic MM could go, Capcom could always find a way to make a new MM sub-series if they wanted to.

I personally see Megaman BN as its own spin-off series since it completely changes the gameplay style.

PS: Even the Zelda Timeline™ could be seen as not that important because outside of the interesting aspect of the Downfall Timeline time travelling always messes up things. Twilight Princess could've been a sequel to Wind Waker if they haven't included Ganon and it would've been still fine. That's just overcomplicating things.

It’s funny how badly Capcom messed up the Megaman timeline despite how weirdly straightforward it initially is.
ignoring the net timeline, there’s just far too many oddities in the robotics timeline.
The latest game in the timeline is two decades old and since then it had at least 3 different timelines before come out with more recent games, one of them was a full blown storyline that begun and ended in that period (well assuming Capcom doesn’t wanna make a third ZX game), the latest three Megaman games are all in the earliest timeline and they have to respect things like how wily isn’t dying of old age yet.
Furthermore, it is absolutely bizarre how many “in-between” games with questionable conancity, like Mirai kara no Chōsensha or Super Rockman Adventure, or the X RPG which randomly decides to take place 100 years in the future completely ignoring the existence of the Zero tetralogy.
On everyone’s soul though, the DOS games are ABSOLUTELY canon. (Source: my aunt at Capcom)

Why is it so hard to make a Megaman Battle Network roguelike? Yes, exactly like One Step From Eden. I feel like there is so much missing potential in MBN, specially because the battle system can get astonishing deep.

Repeat after me. The introduction of waifu characters and implied love interests in the X series was not a mistake.

how can other navigators even compete with peak?
Alia has a body count(killed persons) and extreme professionalism and discipline, and Pallette is cute or something. Layer is awfully reserved/timid for her appearance.

She should have been canon man ::omgdoom

No, she shouldn't have been canon. She's Hitoshi Ariga's shitty OC that he almost parasitically attached to Bass, an actually good canon character. I'm glad he changed his mind about putting her in his manga.
