Media that scared you as a kid

Pet Sematary. I asked my mom to pay-per-view it. I was 10 and already a veteran of horror films. The trailer looked cool. It turned out to be the only horror movie that ever really terrified me so bad that I could barely watch it. It wasn't Zelda or Pascow that did it, although they were pretty scary on their own. It was Gage. Specifically the part where he goes to Jud's house and attacks him. For some reason that whole scene terrified me so bad that I hid behind the couch. Also, the ending with Rachel.

About a year later I bought the book. Yes my mom let me have as many Stephen King books as I wanted at 10/11 years old. At this point I had already read Cujo and Night Shift. But Pet Sematary is the scariest book I had read at that point and even decades later it's still the scariest book I have ever read. I was looking under my bed. I was afraid to sleep.

the episode of ‘The Smurfs’ called ‘The Purple Smurfs’ is another thing that horrified me so much as a child it sometimes comes to mind like a suppressed memory. Vaguely remember getting nightmares from it, but I was also just really scared of zombies as a child so could have been something else.

I hate snakes. I REALLY hate snakes. From shit when I was little, rattlesnakes. Then here comes this movie Dreamscape in 1984 with a fucking snake man. Fuck you movie.

I found Crashbox on HBO to be scary for some reason. Which is kind of strange, since I watched Courage the Cowardly Dog growing up and didn't find that scary at all.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the GBA. That shit was brutal and nothing but pure horror fiction. Worst game on the GBA, and I don't want to see that game ever again.

alone in the dark the new nightmare on the original playstation frightened me and my sister so much at age of seven we maybe made it three or four screens into the game before turning the console off

Looked it up, and understandable. I can tell something’s not right just looking at the box art

Not a single thing in this image doesn’t feel slightly cursed

But of course something adapting ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory‘ would give off bad vibes

It’s been solved, the stories super interesting (at least to me) so I’m sharing

Also artist’s (Ramsdell) website. He makes really neat Photomanipulation/collages with antique images

Tbh it would probably be quicker to list what didn't scare me as a kid.

I struggled with everything from Jurassic Park and Tomb Raider to The Simpsons Tree house of Horrors ::eggmanlaugh

I think that's why I got so into horror as a teen/adult, I'm fascinated by what used to scare me.

Uhh so
I was really afraid of Specter Ape Escape as a kid. I don’t know why

My parents had to play fucking APE ESACEP without me bc I was scared. They also fucked me up bad with RE1. I used to nearly feel zombies grabbing me in the dark as a kid.

I was also really afraid of the end of this book, because all the bad and scary digimon were in there….
