Media that scared you as a kid

Sometimes it just randomly comes to me like some kinda suppressed memory before I forget it again , “Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart” pretty sure I came across it on Netflix, and I had already watched all the other animated films

Movies:
Scream
Gladiator
Apocalypto
The Thing (1982)
The Day After (1983)
Fahrenheit 9/11
The Labyrinth (David Bowie creeped me out)
Cabin Fever (saw this at my neighbors')
The Descent (best scary movie)
The Triangle (psycho thriller)

Born in '96. At an early age these left an impression. Parents were strict about rated R films and many times I had to sneak in order to watch a movie.

My parents and grandparents were watching some show in tv about a guy that got trapped in an elevator and he had to crap on the closed doors and it was miserable, that made me had terror of elevators like it was death lol

I feel that. I think every transgender person does on some level.

But mine is also for different reasons as well, and I cannot look myself in the eye in the mirror. It's terrifying.

Weirdly enough, I liked (and still do like) the same films that scared me as a kid:
  • Alien
  • Robocop (original)
  • The Secret of NIMH
  • Return to Oz
  • The Terminator
  • The Last Unicorn
  • The Neverending Story
(Yes, those are all family films by the standards of the time.)

The only exception was Cat's Eye. The first 2 stories didn't bother me, but the final story creeped me out so much I feared that it'd happen to me IRL. Couldn't watch it again until I was in my teens.

Claymation movies traumatized me as a kid.
Please watch Něco z Alenky (aka Alice 1988). It is creepy but one of the most awesome and most original takes on Lewis Caroll's books.

Thanks for making me relive my childhood trauma, OP ::beer
Groke/Mårran/Mörkö from Moomin terrified me for way too long.

Threads.

Threads still scares the life out of me. I cannot bring myself to watch it.
I came across it in a museum exhibit all about the cold war, back when I was maybe 7 or 8? They had the opening scene displayed on a wall of old televisions, endlessly repeating, some of them outputting audio and others silent. I had been blissfuly unaware of the threat of nuclear war up until that day.

I Don't know why, but I remember a weird advertisement that involved swans and Vivaldi four seasons, I think it was an advertisement of toilet paper back in the early nineties. I remember affecting my sleep cycle quite a bit.
Cases of hypmnagogya involving traditional monsters like Frankentein or sirens.

This is almost a cliché now, but the illustrations from the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books
It's a cliché for a good reason, that shit was intense. Stephen Gammell's artwork in those books is probably a big reason why I like fucked up horror aesthetics so much. I remember feeling unsettled by more than a few of those stories, but none of them truly scared me.

I honestly can't think of much that scared me as a kid. I figure it's because I used to have lots of really bad nightmares and stuff in media just wasn't as scary as those. My mom didn't really restrict the media I consumed either, except the first Resident Evil game and Beavis and Butt-Head. x) Thinking about it, I do remember being a bit scared after seeing Jurassic Park, lying in bed and hearing my heart beat, thinking it was the T-Rex stomping around.

The most pathetic one has to be this face. It's from An American Tail: Fievel Goes West. When I first saw it I was freaked the fuck out. Every time after I'd always cover my eyes when that scene happened. x)

The first resident evil movie. I saw it on tv when i was 6 i think. I was watching it with my dad but the fell asleep. I was so scared i was shaking and i wanted to watch but everytime there was a zombie on screen i would cover my head with the blanket. I couldn't even see the parts where the characters are just talking and planning their next move because i was expecting more zombies to come out.

Honestly, i wish there was a movie that made me feel like that again.

Well I watched a lot of horror movies secretly with my brother ,but none of them really scared me BUT what did scare me of the freaking seal of orichacmalos (or whatever) it's called from Yu GI Oh like I was really connected with the Yu GI Oh cast and seeing them going apeshit and sacrificing their soul triggered something in me as a child

brave little toaster is another one. especially when the air conditioner has an absolute meltdown and starts angrily shouting. I LIKE BEING STUCK IN THIS STUPID WALL! IT’S MY FUNCTIOOOON!!
