Mazinger z and Getter robo(Both prefer the manga versions)
While more of a comedy Space opera, I love "The Irresponsible captain Tylor".
SDF Macross(Tv series)
Gundam 0083
Gundam 08th
Daitarn 3

I've liked appleseed, blue gender, bokurano (at least the manga, I haven't finished the anime), fang of the sun dougram, gasaraki, a handful of gundam series/films (both uc and otherwise), sdf macross, neon genesis evangelion/end of evangelion, and the patlabor ova/films.

I need to watch votoms someday. I liked dougram, so I imagine I'll like it as well.

My all time favorite anime are SDF Macross and Code Geass. I grew up on Robotech and it changed my brain chemistry. My order of the Do You Remember Love? 4K should be coming in, in a couple days.

I've watched Genesis Climber Mospeda, Super Dimension Calvary Southern Cross, Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, Promare, Valvrave, Megazone 23, Knights Of Sidonia, Gunbuster, Diebuster, and the Xenosaga adaptation.

Back in the Toonami days I used to watch G Gundam, Gundam Wing, Zoids, Metabots - though haven't rewatched since I was a kid.

They finally released Do You Remember Love in the west?

Anyone here a fan of Mecha anime?
Eg Gundam,Macross,Getter Robo and Votoms ?
Gotten back into it after a few years hiatus.
Zeta gundam Votoms and Tekkaman blade are a few of my personal favourites.
I also really like code geass despite its flaw's for Lelouch and the ending of course. View attachment 21431View attachment 21433View attachment 21434
I really like Mecha. I've watched basically everything with the name Gundam on it; I really like G-Gundam and actually prefer ZZ to Zeta.
I prefer Super Robots to real mecha though, Mazinger, Braves and especially Getter are the best.
It's interesting how most people only watched EVA and Gurren Lagann, especially the latter considering it's basically a huge homage a lot classic mecha.
Hell yea patlabor is really fantastic especially the second movie.
Patlabor 2 is good but it's barely a mecha movie
Yeah, I like mecha anime.

I like some Gundam series, but I really like the Japan-only SD Gundam stuff the most when it comes to Gundam.
Interesting, It's rare to see sd fans online. I've watched all the animated shorts from the 80s/90s but I've not any other sd series, there anything worth watching?
Mashin Hero Wataru.
Patrician taste
I watched a few Gundams and read Mazinger Z manga. Unfortunately, I lost interest because of my attention span and the Western fanbase being incredibly annoying.
The gundam fanbase has lot of different opinions in it: for every entry there's at least one guy who loves it and absolutely hates everything else (everyone likes 79 though)

Yeah, there don't seem to be much of us around, especially when it comes to specifically the JP-only Musha Gundam works and the Knight Gundam carddas series.

As for recommendations, SD Gundam Sangokuden Brave Battle Warriors is really good. It's Romance of the Three Kingdoms, but with Gundams.

I do want to mention that both SD Gundam World anime series are also pretty good, but I would more recommend World Heroes between the two. While it does have some hiccups and an unnecessary 2-ish episodes of recap of story from Sangoku Soketsuden (if you've already watched that), I thought it was enjoyable.

Speaking of SD Gundam World, Sangoku Soketsuden is okay, but the main problem was that it was too much of a multi-media project in the sense that a lot of important backstory and character moments are missing in the anime and you have to read one of the two online manga series to get that. (Not to say that Soshoki is a bad manga. It's wonderful and the art is amazing, but it's definitely inconvenient and it makes me mad that there is such an important piece of character information that you can only get from that because it's never mentioned in the anime).

If you don't mind learning Japanese or importing books, I can recommend some manga for you to read, if you'd like.

Strange... I thought I had participated here.

I prefer mecha on the grittier side of the spectrum (true for both anime and games). Let's go with a few examples:

Gundam:
Not as a whole, as quality varies wildly, but I do like it.
Some worth mentioning off the top of my head:
Formula 91, Wing, Seed, 00, Iron Blooded Orphans.

Note that even the Gundam series that I like have very, very serious caveats that I don't want to get into right now.

VOTOMS:
A little on the older side, but the mechs are more believably military machines instead of magically powerful metal giants, I like that.

Code Geass:
Some really cool designs here, and I also like that the machines are on the smaller end of the spectrum.

Evangelion:
Bio mechanical approaches are always of interest to me. What you watch will vastly alter your perception (either the original anime series or the theatrical films).

Full Metal Panic:
Also generally on the more realistical side. Great art and animation and a great blend of action and humor.

Hot take, but I feel like Studio Trigger Mecha animes are some of the most overrated shit in the entire fandom, and not just Darling in the FranXX. I can't get into them no matter how much I tried, and I ate garbages like Dunbine, Goddannar and Evangelion.

Franxx is just something else entirely masquerading as mecha anime, let's be real, but I'm surprised you consider Evangelion thrash.

I just found it absolutely pretentious at its values really. Few episodes of TV already got me bored, and EoE just made me absolutely dislike everything Anno made altogether.

I see. I quite like it honestly. Dunbine I'm watching at the moment, but I agree with you that it is on the absolute lower end.

Finally, someone who calls Goddannar what it actually is.

Honestly, for Gainax I liked Gunbusters but that's it.

I don't know if Gurren Lagan is good though.

Pretentious is the right word.

But I don't dislike everything the guy made, just that he's repeating himself in all of his work.

I'm just gonna pop in for a second to shill recommend Eureka Seven. Its got a deep emotional story and the two main character have the most believable love story ive seen in fiction. Also the mech fights are dynamic and interesting from what i remember. Also the side characters added to the story a lot and always felt relevant when they were focused on.

and also second everyone before who has recommended Gurren Laggan

Definitely some gundam fans here. Ome of the first threads on this board was a gundam thread. I long for fresh new mecha manga I don't see a lot of it at all very much, but I only see what gets localized at the stores.

As far as gundam goes, you would probably like 8th ms team alot, if you haven't seen it.

I know G gundam is goofy as hell, but it is just so much fun :3 WINDMILL GUNDAM FTW!

E7 is a masterpiece that we will never see again in a lifetime simply because the drama is way too realistic and the plot really takes a while setuping things before it really gets going, kinda like Steins;Gate.
