Mario's hat always bugged me in this image it's way too small for his head.

So I did a quick edit to test see how it looks.

Just realized how small the hat actually was.

Nothing is wrong with this artwork, the hat has sort of a newspaper boy hat/mailman hat design.

I suppose this is just a case of early character design since this was for the second game.
May Nintendo doesn't had established how the size of Mario's hat should be.
