This is one of those games notorious with Anti-piracy, it has a softlock halfway through the adventure, right between Cubyrinth and Icepeak, which makes it difficult to crack, happens with most emulators and flash cards. Here's the softlock in action: And this is how it's supposed to play: This patch is a workout by bypassing the cutscene that triggers the AP softlock altogether, instead of playing the cutscene Sonic/Mario fall in a sort of T-pose, this is not the most ideal solution of course and I advice you to play the clean Rom first, but if you run through the […]

Care to share what you did like about the Wii version? :-)
Mainly the Dream Events. The ones that immediately come to mind are the Bobsled stage with the Sonic Heroes bonus stage music, Seaside Hill skiing, Radical Highway snowboarding, and the ice skating minigame where you "fight" Perfect Chaos.

I always liked playing the last one to pretend Mario and Sonic actually had a "real" crossover game, the only other games we had where they could team up were Super Mario War and Sonic Robo Blast 2. The Mario mods for SRB2 weren't super crazy like they are nowadays

I guess you can try the 3DS games but they are not as good...

London 2012 has a regular story mode but it plays more strait forward, watch cutscene, play level, watch cutscene, play level, occasionally make a choice, it has a somewhat interesting story though but the gameplay is the weakest point as it does this weird thing where instead of playing the actual event you just play a simplified mini game, I kid you not, the marathon is literally just you picking up a water bottle, is disappointing.

As for Rio 2916 it plays more like this in an RPG like setting and it has an interesting rivalry theming "Team Sonic vs Team Mario) but it does something really bad, maybe they heard complaints about the Adventure Mode here getting in the way, idk, but they made it so that you can easily miss the side story and head strait to the main event, in fact it is quite challenging to FIND the side story and imo the side story is the fun part.

It is unfortunate this one, Vancouver 2010, is the only one that did this expansive Adventure mode 😦
Thanks, will give it a try to the next iterations too, and atm I'm progressing on this one, this is one super fun game (again suggested to all trying!)

I second this.. a second time..
Without giving spoilers, it's pokemon-like towns in fun and nice to look at universes (mario and sonic), with very fun mini-games, progression, unlockables that feel RPGish.
I also want to add that things are not thrown there just per se, they make sense in the adventure and the attempt works very well in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing! If you get to know other games which have adventure modes I'd be really happy to try 'em out!

Afaik it always crashes on real hardware as well as all emulators I've tested (unless you are playing the real cartridge of course) the only emulator I know that bypasses it is MelonDS but even then watching my friend stream it he kept getting random crashes in the second half, I only shared this version in case if the clean version fails on you.

It really is, this version in particular is sort of a hidden gem, is like a Mario & Sonic RPG.

I'm really confused by this. It's not clear to me if the clean ROM always fails at that point or if it's just a random chance. I hope someone clarifies this once and for all.

I would play it for the story mode. which from what they say is quite entertaining.

Highly suggest this! Playing right now - definitely a hidden gem.

The adventure (yes there's a story driven adventure!) feels RPGish, having a blast!

I don't think I've tested Delta, it's very likely so, afaik only MelonDS bypasses it and even then you can still get random freezes in the second half of the game so save frequently.

I can confirm I've tested R4, AceCard, TTDS, Super Card, DeSmume, No$GBA, No$Zoomer, Twilight Menu+ and even WiiU's official VC, only MelonDS got past it 95% of the time, still I recommend using a clean Rom at first, this here is only for preservation as a second option.

For comparison the Wii version is piss easy to pirate, this honestly applies to the other entries as well, I honestly don't know why this one game got this special treatment but its obscurity is probably why it went by unnoticed by Emulators and Hackers.
That is interesting as most flash cards have a ap bypass code. I havent got that far but now you piqued my interest so I will report back when I get to that point

It's not a RAM issue, it's programmed into the game itself.
It's not what I'm asking, what I mean is, the softlock is able to detect a hacked 3ds running the game, or since is a more modern system the anti piracy code will be unable to activate due to it thinking you're running an official game?

Also question, does that AP softlock trigger on Delta Emulator or no? I have this game downloaded on it but was downloaded from Megathread instead.

My theory is that it was two big IPs coming together so at least one of their legal departments pushed hard for it.

its strange that this game specifically got such a beefy anti piracy measure that games set to be even greater sellers on the ds didn't even get.

No problem, really wish I had this in 2009, it is a huge pain to get to that part only to have the game softlock your progress.

At least it fixes the biggest problem that the game has which are the softlocks when played in story mode and sometimes it freezes or crashes making it impossible to progress in the game but it is only evident if you have a pirated copy of the original game or if you play it through R4 as well and that also happened, but, well.

This is one of my favorite games in the MariovsSonic Olympic series next to the first one both Wii and DS versions. Controls are responsive and the story was pretty good. Played this nonstop when I was in college.

Man thx God i didnt actually try to finish this game before even tho i wanted to now that ik theres that freeze
