Leveling System Questions

Somewhat unrelated to the system, but what’s the font you’re using for your name? I’m a little bad at differentiating fonts haha.

my question is, if a level 1
  • Cannot create profile posts or leave comments on them.
  • Cannot initiate a DMs, only reply to them.
  • Cannot use signatures.
  • Cannot post Suggestions.
  • Cannot apply or comment on the Writers Guild
how do they rank up?

Level 1 actually says "Can" for allll of those. Did you mean level 0? If so, they just have to reach 25 normal posts.

If i punch a mod out, do i level up?

(I'm sorry, I couldn't resist)

Any idea how long it takes before changes take effect? Kinda did some basic stuff, it showed in the preview, left for a couple hours but didn't seem to take effect. Preview still displays the colors though.

I think that although this could be interesting for those willing to sink in the effort, for those who like to detail their profiles and such, do you think this could negatively impact the experience of those who don't post as frequently? For some, because they don't post often on threads, or in some cases don't post at all depending on the kind of user here, do you think that having this stuff locked behind this leveling system could discourage people from making meaningful or highly detailed posts too and treat this more as a social media where low effort high frequency posts are what's rewarded on here?

Because I did notice in the rules also that people under level 1 can only reply to messages and not compose a direct message. And the way you reach level 1 is by reaching 25 posts/messages. Although it's great to have clarification now for what these levels and ranks mean or what they do, as initially I naively thought it had something in relationship to the reaction score or even the points system that we have here, does the staff team also intend to put up an all you need to know thread at the very top of the board, or have a redirect to something like that so that way, new users are more informed before signing up to a website with a social media system built more like this?

Apologies if my messages are too long. And maybe I just didn't read the signing up stuff properly when I did. Wouldn't be surprised. So, sorry if these questions come off as naïve. They're also not intended to be hostile. These are just more observations I have based on what I've seen.

The features added indeed reward the people that post the most. It was considered to include reactions on the level up process but it was overly complicated. Posts are the main way to tell a person uses the forums, if a user only wants to read and not post what is the point awarding them a colored name that will rarely or ever be seen by anyone.

People already treat is as social media. Very few here used a forum before or understand the concept of topics and sub forums, we do what we can to educate, it doesn't always work.

We don't want random people registering and straight away sending DM's to other members who have never even heard of them. If people need to DM others I need them at the very least be active in the community for a little while. 25 posts is not too much to ask for being able to DM anyone.

Users delete their account daily because they can't find the repo. The repo link is the first thing they are shown after registering in a welcome message. People don't read, even if it's in front of them with blinking red text.
Users are expected to read https://retrogametalk.com/forums/site-news.4/

I plan to build a FAQ/index of common questions from this section which is new.

Does posting in statuses make your level go higher? Or just posting within the forums?
