I don't use MAME because of how clunky it feels, but I totally get it. I'm just glad FB Neo has been slowly increasing the kinds of game it supports.
I swear by FB Neo for joystick emulation of lightgun games. It feels better than with Mame. FB Neo runs a ton of arcade games.

Worth noting that this translation included a whopping SIXTY SEVEN PAGE PDF OF TRANSLATION NOTES???? (as well as info about the game, maps, lore, and a massive bibliography of sources they used in the translation)
ALSO worth noting that the translation notes are emphatic that absolutely NO AI WAS USED AT ALL in this translation. Hell yea.
Was genuinely so hype for this that I couldn't even wait for it to go up on here before I burned it to some discs for my PS1, so double-hell-yea never thought this would happen. Overjoyed fr

Yes so true, but it still love mame for being able to run some obscure titles that fbn won't touch, like knights of valor 3 and oriental legends 2, both are 2008+ and run perfect. Amazing beat em ups. I want to find a list of anything 2004-2011 that mame runs perfect.

No worries! yeah, the problem with MAME is also its greatest strength: casting a wide net also means support is uneven when it comes to games, sadly.

Yeah I think that your analogy is better. But you just reminded me I really love the old Jurassic park arcade game. The one that's a shooter from 1990 because it's good fast action. I've been trying to get the newer arcade one to run but failing so far. Mame loads it, but it runs like a snail. Never mind though I'm the king of going off-topic.

Peak translation, never thought I'd see this up here but I've been surprised before....you're the man Rage!
Nah, it's all thanks to the talent at Hilltopworks! glad to see people enjoying this obscure gem.

I think the comparison to Myst is apt in regards to movement, actually. It reminds me even more the Sega CD Jurassic Park game in this regard (you move from FMV clip to a pre rendered still).

So basically it's "D" or Myst but the Chinese Mythos Version that takes place in the insanity of the former Kowloon Walled City?... Or am I missing something... as a wushu practitioner of 20 years I do like the yin yang and fengshui stuff but as a gamer... I dont think this style of game is very enjoyable in 2026 it takes way too long to move imho... maybe within that genre this is a gem... but I gave up after 5 mins.

I already have too many ps1 games I want to play but I'll definitely be bookmarking this for the future. Always interested in playing more obscure Japan only releases.
I'm not telling you what to do but my personal philosophy is to grab first and play later. The power infrastructure is much weaker than internet with fiber optic cables actually being laid into the ground. Not trying to be a doomsayer but I see a point in the future where the power may go down for months or years. Even just from a solar flare. Better to have entertainment ready and a generator.

I had to read that twice but I understand. I played through that before it was Trials of Mana, back when Seiken Densetsu 3 had its first translation. I can't remember what patcher I used. Lunar didn't exist yet. Also, I feel my analogy was wrong for this game. Its much better than Myst. I like the atmosphere in Kowloons Gate more.

Yeah it's a big cultural point in eastern nations, China and Japan for example. Kevin's final classes in Trials of Mana are also based on this.

Wait, does this game have staff from Planet Laika on it? Because I love that game and am massively excited to play this one too.
It’s made by Zeque, they collaborated with Quintet to make Planet Laika, mainly doing the creative side while quintet did mainly the programming IIRC.

I recommend anyone interested to read the interview the translation team gave to readonlymemo, it was very informative on the whole process (this game is an insane beast to translate, turns out) and made me respect their work even more

This looks pretty awesome. I'm going to try it. BTW thank you! Looks like a combination between Shenmue and Myst. Also, I'm not sure why but the names of the discs are the exact names of the summons that Maria Renard uses.

Hello.
There's an Access card with a code included. Is is necessary to get through a specific part of the game?
I think it's there just for flavor (but I added it in case it wasn't).

Covers for individual disc's in retroarch and emulation station. still need a good 4th image

Great to see this one finished. Fun fact this game had an even more obscure sequel (prequel? spin-off?) on the PlayStation VR, only in Asian territories but fully translated in English. I bought it some years back while exploring the world of Asia exclusive English releases but never got around to playing it, will have to check it out after playing the original now.
