Holy crap, this has seriously been translated! I figured this would've been one of those "impossible to translate" games, on the same level as Yuuyami Doori Tankentai. This is awesome!

It’s a Chinese Mythology thing. The Four Sacred Beasts: Azure Dragon, Vermillion Bird, White Tiger, Black Tortoise.

Edit: I double checked and the disc images have no ECC problems; I'd guess you have a bad burn, sadly.

burned the CD again at half the speed and it's working. A bad burn was a good call, thanks for that

I've played the surreal freebie on Steam on Kowloon's Curse: Lost Report and it had a very interesting setting and they cited this as the inspiration. While the dialogue was rough on the Steam game, I am very happy to try the actual source. From the screenshots, I can see how someone can find it quite inspiring to create something, it's got such a unique vibe. Thanks for this post.
