I wanted to make this thread because this issue has been playing on my mind for a while. In the KH community I often see people say that KH2 is where it should have ended and that it was a perfect ending..... perfect how? Discounting final mix we learn next to nothing about orgXIII, their goals, what drove them to do what they did etc. Also, literally the first 3 hours of the game you play as Roxas, the nobody of Sora. The entire time you play as him you witness his drive to want to be his own person, with the ending of his arc seing him become stored in Sora's heart. Naminé with Kairi's heart too. How isn't that bittersweet? How isn't that setting up for more games? I just want to know im not insane here. If you have the opposite opinion PLEASE explain why I genuinely really want to know.

If I had to guess it's probably because the ending did tie up two major threads established in the first game and start of the second which is Sora finding Riku and returning to the island and Roxas & Namine meeting again. and then there's the ending track Sanctuary which really did give the sense that it really was over.

People say that cause they have consume the supplement material when the other games came out prior and after 2 was released.

If you play KH 1 and 2 only with no spin-offs or other entries, than youll be scratching your head the entire time. Same with half the content in KH3 if you didn't play a mobile game that barely got released global.

Yes, it clearly IS setting up for more games. The reason people wish it ended there is because it gave satisfying closure to KH1's lingering plot thread, with everyone reunited back at the islands. Future games would complicate the lore and undo KH2's happy ending.

on the roxas part, whats the problem if it had ended bittersweat? like look at axel, they way his story concluded in KH2 was bittersweat and yet it was a touching conclusion, right?
(i know his story didnt truly conclude there but what i mean is, it would have worked out in his case as a story to finish right there.)

for everything else i agree, it doesnt really work as an ending, but it does conclude what KH1 set up (not CoM) which is why i believe people say its a good stopping point storywise.

at the time of kh2's release the only games prior was kh1 and chain of memories. as far as anyone knew at the time roxas was just purely one half of sora and org 13 was just there for them to become whole again. final mix, days, birth by sleep and so on just complicated things further. plus like others mentioned 2 ends on a happy note.

and boy does this series get chalked full of suffering.

Honestly, KH2 would have been a perfect ending for Axel's character. He died finally doing something selfless for a friend. Perfect way to round out his arc.

its funny. i actually agree with this in the way you put it. but axel only did what he did because sora reminded him of roxas (sora heart hotel). In one way I love how that character arc could have ended but in another way, axel spent so long looking for his friend....

final mix made it way sadder with the scene on the clock tower.

I guess im just wondering how you can know the story so far and still think KH2 was the right place to end it. Which in a way, im preaching to no one since the people who think that are not in this thread lol!

the og game even ended with a post credits scene of the destiny island trio getting a letter in a bottle, so that alone should tell them that there's more. i think people just see all the games and hate the idea of having to play every single one.

I will admit, I do like how they developed Saix/Isa's character after 2. In 2, he's just an unfeeling antagonist who goes along with the Organization's plans. But later games completely re-contextualize his character. Ultimately, all he really wanted was to rebuild his friendship with Axel/Lea.

OH MY GOD on a sidenote, Kirk Thornton voices Saix and he is also the current Shadow The Heghog VA too

"You admit it."

I kinda love this show of vulnerability from him.

i love the end of that scene with the 3 of them so much.

This whole scene had me sobbing when i first played KH3. I just rewatched it and I still shed a tear.
I was surprised by how much sympathy the game had for Isa.
