Live Action Kamen Rider fan thread

Been a fan since Saban's Masked Rider. It always seemed badass that all MR needed was his fists and a good swift kick to take out a bad guy as opposed to the Power Rangers needing five people, weapons, and a giant robot

LOVED Dragon Knight when it was airing, while a lot of the violence was taken out, it was still just as grim and dark. The three part arc with Torque might be some of the best episodes of the show

Then W came out and I never looked back. Some of my favorites are Amazon, Black/Black RX, Ryuki, Blade, Hibiki, Kabuto, Kiva, W, Fourze, Gaim, Build, Zero-One, and Geats

Also, if you have any interest in Hibiki, I highly recommend Daimajin Kanon, it has a very similar feeling to it

Are we witnessing a "healing" and return to form for KR? I'm not asking for something dark and serious like Shin nor early Heisei but something that could have some serious moments.

Are you watching Kamen Rider Gavv? Under the sweets and snacks aesthetic, there's a dark and serious story of Mafia, murder, drug trafficking... Shouma appears to be a mashmellow but when innocent people is in danger, he turns into a murderous machine."So, how it will be? You'll drop dark snacks for good or I'll have to kill you right here, right now?"

And Kamen Rider Gavv taught me that

Absolutely! I love how Gavv hides a sort of early Heisei darkness under the sillyness of candy and snacks. Shouma is a sweet pie of a guy but he goes all business when it's time to fight.

There's so much going on, like human trafficking, drug addiction, government corruption, dysfunctional family relationships and sibling abuse, survivor's guilt, worrying about a disappeared person who might be dead... there's a lot to unpack.

I only have watched decade and blade only i've been running out of ideas what rider series i should watch any recommendations?

I'll give the same advice I often get for tokusatsu or gundam or anything of the sort: open up the kamen rider wiki, look through the list of Riders, and pick whichever one immediately jumps out as looking the coolest to you. Any of them should be a good pick, just go for what interests you!

Or you can just start going down a certain era watching them in order. I started on Kuuga and absolutely loved it.

Full trailer is up, already found the 'belt' very cool and liking the cast of characters (Lopo from Geats is back and has a Yaiba Zero One vibe to herself). Also the bike...the bike...welcome back Autovajin from Faiz or Cheetah Nick from Gobusters.

I saw Sabans Kamen rider as a kid, masked rider, it was completely different, botched basically.

However the merch was S tier at the time and I had a few of the figures and vehicles, by quality of design and the build quality of these, they were amongst my favourite toys as a kid. I have not actually watched the Japanese version of any of the series though. I am kinda curious as I was a massive bio booster armor guyver fan and that apparently is very heavily inspired by kamen rider, almost in the same way EVA was heavily inspired by ultra man, it's own thing clearly, but wears the inspiration proudly. Guyver also ain't gonna be finished, Yoshiki Takaya's assistant passed away and after that he returned to being a full time dentist, yes his day job was being a dentist apparently.

I had the power rangers figures too, but the masked rider figures were a whole other level of poseable and practically indestructible, also more detailed too. I was patient enough as a child to wait for the cool parts of the show and blank out during the rest of the saban version episodes.

Kamen Rider Black is my first ever Kamen Rider that I watched during Sunday mornings.

After Black, I also watch Kuuga, Agito, Ryuki,
Faiz, Blade, Hibiki, Kabuto, Decade, Double OOO, Fourze, Drive, Ex-Aid, Build, Zio, Zero One and Saber.

i barely watch any new kamen series atm, but i still listen to these lit songs

Some banger picks! Just rewatched Kiva for the first time since it aired...e...eighteen years ago. Ah, age. It's still fun. I forgot how annoying Nago was in the first half.

Started watching Kamen Rider almost two years ago with SKR and the 1971 show. Although I'm definitely not that show's biggest fan, I ended up appreciating showa era KR (And tokusatsu in general) and moved on to other shows. Currently I'm watching 555 and Zeztz, and the shows I've completed are: 1971 KR, V3, X, Amazon, Stronger, Black, Shin Prologue, ZO, J, Kuuga, Agito, Ryuki, W, OOO and Gavv, with my favorite being Agito.

im VERYYY new to kamen rider and tokusatsu as a whole (as of 2025!!!) but so far ive seen + ranking them from most to least liked shows:

-kamen rider gavv
-kamen rider gaim
-shin kamen rider
-kamen rider geats

gavv especially is like so special to me, that show came into my life at literally the perfect moment lmaooo

I might have a small obsession with kamen rider. I've been watching Geats between classes in school, I watch Gavv when I'm at home with nothing better to do, watching Den-O with friends, started watching Ex-Aid when I'm on the road (not driving), am watching Gotchard with my boyfriend, Zero One with my little sister, and Zeztz with another friend. Overall if I had to rank them by what I think so far I'd place them as...

- Den-O
- Gavv
- Zeztz
- Gotchard
- Zero One
- Geats
- Ex-Aid

Though I do not hate any of them or dislike any of them even a little bit.

Alright, so...
I think that I saw like half on an episode of Ex-Aid in like 2018 (I was in my full-on Super Sentai obsession years), and didn't quite like it.

Then, in 2020 with so much free time, I started the original 1971 show.
And from then I was hooked. Not only to Kamen Rider (especially the Showa era), but to old tokusatsu in general.

Basically I watched the whole 5 original shows in like 4 months XD
And have seen some other random shows and movies that have caught my attention.
and honestly, I don't think any of them are bad. I mean, obviously I prefer some to others, but from the ones I've seen I don't feel like I hate any.

The ones I've watched are:
-Kamen Rider (1971)
-V3
-X
-Amazon
-Stronger
-Skyrider (Kamen Rider 1979), this one's actually better than I expected XD
-Faiz
-Hibiki (the first half is better, obviously lol)
-Ghost AND I WILL LOVE IT TIL DEATH, NECROM IS BEST THIRD RIDER-
-Shin (Prologue, the one from the 90s), ZO and J
-Amazons (the two seasons and the movie. Could be better, but at least the action's good)

And right now I'm watching Super-1... While I have like another 20 shows to watch as well lmao
But yeah, my favorite shows are Ghost and V3, and I absolutely love Shin Kamen Rider Prologue, it's just so good.
Riderman is freaking awesome.

PD: Now I remembered that I also watched The First and The Next (those weird reboot movies), and honestly... yeah those are kinda bad. But they're so bad they're good. And of course, the action is amazing on those.
The Next is literally The Grudge but with edgy V3 XDDD

I remember the only Sentai I actively decided to watch was Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger I don't really remember why, but it's most likely that the pirate theme got me interested the characters were very fun to watch and their outfits and designs were just LIT

It was an excellent show and also funnily enough an excellent starting point for many of my friends so you could 'quickly get' 30+ years of sentai without having to trek through hundreds of episodes.

Ranked the themes for each Kamen Rider because while I haven't watched every Kamen Rider season I've certainly listened to all the music like... a bunch (basing this off of the first theme for each series).

I never really had much interest until I found that someone had posted Shin Kamen Rider Prologue in its entirety on YouTube while looking for old horror movies, and it immediately became one of my all time favorite movies and changed my perception of the entire franchise. Idk why but I never clicked with much tokusatsu before that and now it's one of my favorite genres!

I have only completed Blade as far as KR series though and I'm a little over half way through agito, I adore Blade's Kaijins and Agito having a cast of different types of riders is incredibly cool to me, to be honest I was hooked when I saw that Gills was something more in line with what I saw in Shin but ended up liking G3 more than both Gills and Agito lol.

I also absolutely love Garo, me and my fiance watched through the original series together and it's maybe my favorite show, ever. I really need to find more spooky tokustsu.

The new opening for the second act of ZEZTZ (the latest and first 'worldwide' aired Kamen Rider since we get it in English on YT Saturday night alongside JP TV Sunday morning) aired last night. Pretty awesome, I was surprised I liked it so much after enjoying Visions so much.

Spoilers if you consider starting ZEZTZ, btw (mostly character and form reveals).

Love Blade! Really expanded on the stylings of Ryuki and made them better overall (and man was that ending depressing). I've tried getting into Garo before, but it's never really been my cup of tea

And as far as horror goes, you might want to try Blue SWAT. It's about a special police squad tasked with taking down these alien body snatchers
