JRPGs with an absurd random encounter rate

Lagrange Point, a fan-translated NES JRPG, has a truly insane encounter rate. It's almost interesting how it makes you think about every single step you take. "Do I really want that treasure chest?"

Maybe not absurd, but digital devil story megami tensei 2 sure made me break a sweat

After a couple hours, you start getting one every couple of steps and it's always 9 enemies that can wipe the floor with you their spells if you're not careful

However, if you activate the " auto retrace your steps" thing and then cancel it, all random encounters are disabled for a couple hundred steps...

Sword of Vermillion on sega genesis is horrible with random encounters same goes for Aretha on super famicom, the Phantasy Star games are also known for high random encounters.

Random encounters seldom bother me, but Quest 64 was the only game where I felt like it was too much. Random battles seemingly happened at every other step. I couldn't get through the final area because I spent more time battling than walking and eventually said screw it.

I'll add Aretha from SNES to this list. finished the game days ago.
