A track with a similar name. They aren't the typical J-Rock band that you find at Youtube/Spotify playlist, but they're amazing.
Fun fact: karasu means crow, korosu means to murder.
Boris is such an amazing band and always good for a few surprises.
Here’s a great studio live they did for earthquaker devices: loveless.
Their guitarist Wata has a signature fuzz pedal named Hizumitas. Hizumi means distortion. Their bassist came up with the name Hizumitas when he tried to think of what the name for a distortion-type pokemon would be if it existed. For some reason a lot of Japanese musicians especially in noise adjacent genres seem to be gamers. Yako and Agata from Melt-Banana as well.
More Boris stuff:
Melody from the fantastic album "noise" which is relatively dreamy overall despite the name:
They do a lot of more experimental collaborations with Noise god Merzbow. Here’s a great live version of vomitself:
And now for something completely different: Polysics - I my me mine
Probably the only good song featuring a recorder.
Honestly I didn't think Monsters was that bad of an album.
I don’t think it’s terrible. It has good moments and I’ve even made my peace with Love is Dead but it’s a disappointing swan song to a fantastic band. It just felt like a much lesser version of Redeemer.
Btw I have my own hypothesis when it comes to Hizumi‘s supposed "rare throat condition" that proved to be the end of the band. I’m a singer myself occasionally using shouts and growls. It’s incredibly easy to permanently damage your vocal chords with that if you have the wrong technique. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that was probably it. I love his guttural singing but in a live setting it always felt a little uncontrolled. I’ve noticed a clear deterioration sound-wise between seeing the band live for the first time in 2005 and for the last time in 2009. just speculation but I wouldn’t be surprised if his throat condition was just that.
