It's new! It's IISU!!

This presentation of iiSU is quite great and interesting and I feel that the Project I say Front-End is going to have a good future.

IKR! i just hope nintendo doesn't come and slash this. It's very motivating that fans are able to build better front end UI's like this themselves. Who knows...maybe one day i might try my hand at it

As long as no copyrights are infringed and the montised aspect is kept legal and clean, no on can do anything.

It looks nice but Android only ?? Nah man I use my PC for emulation thank you very much im not desperate to play in my phone or some super expensive emulation hanheld console.

A very interesting project. I'll admit I was a bit cynical after their first video, mainly because it seemed to be solely a UI concept presentation with no actual development work having been done. At the end of the video, it sounds like they have made some good progress and gotten some people on board, so I'm much more optimistic this might actually see the light of day, although I'd still be very surprised if they hit that 2026 Q2 date they mused about.

Some other thoughts
  • The UI as a whole is very well thought out. It's a solid mix of elements from the Wii U, 3DS, and PSP/PS3, as they mention, combined with more modern UI trends.
  • I like their icons a lot, they did a solid job with those. They said they'd offer them as a download today, but last I looked their link had gotten locked for too much sudden activity lol
  • It sounds like a minor thing, but where are they getting some of these assets from? There are several sources that have box art graphics for most games, but I don't know of any that have square ones like they displayed here. I certainly don't know of any that have short audio preview clips like they showed off.
  • I just find it funny that if you weren't in the scene, the RetroAchievement support might seem like the most magic, but it's probably one of the easiest things for them to add
  • Music integration is also a fun and clever idea, I like that. Same with the RSS feed support. Both are relatively straight-forward to add, but adds a lot of benefit to users. I would certainly use both features.
  • Friend lists are a nice addition, and probably not too horrible, but the iiSU Network stuff seems like by far the most complicated to add (probably why they said it won't be in the initial release). They want to create their own Miiverse + Twitter + IM clone, on their own servers, and will need to handle all the moderation for it.
  • $5 is wild for the premium version. If it does everything it says, I'll buy copies for all my friends. I do wonder if those points they had in the shop are some sort of microtransaction purchase though, they didn't give any details on it
  • I would've liked to see some UI about key binding configuration. It's something that sounds simple enough, but I find a lot of frontends handle very, very poorly.
  • I hadn't heard of Pictochat before and downloaded it to see. I think their servers are being swamped from this, it loads very poorly and I got a few errors. Likewise, I went to sign up to make an iiSU account, just to see what it was, and didn't get past the email confirmation portion, I assume for the same reason. I'll try again later once their servers aren't being hit as hard.
Overall, I'm tentatively excited. If they didn't mention a potential release date, or mention they actually had an alpha build, I would've said this was going to be vaporware (and it still might be tbf), but watching this has gained my interest a lot.
IKR! i just hope nintendo doesn't come and slash this.
Nah, this isn't the type of project Nintendo would go after. I know they sort of have a reputation for being a bit of a boogyman, but the things they shut down follow a very specific pattern, and this isn't it.

Hi everyone, recently a full presentation of the new emulation front end (iisu) got announced and i was thinking about making a video about it, didn't see any other threads about it so i think i might be one of the first ones ?
if you don't know what im talking about here is the full presentation

it exploded everywhere specially reddit but most the people there have negative opinions about it and seeing it as "ambitious" more than totally doable
i kinda see their side and yeah it looks risky from one point but if it wasn't i don't think it would be this appealing in the first place, high risk high reward, i think this can be the next Retro arch and the future of emulation in my humble opinion, what do you think ?

PrimeiroFirst, let me introduce myself. My name is lod. I think I'm ambitious, but I don't have the patience to configure everything. I don't know how to configure anything. I think it would be good if they released a video tutorial.I think it's a good thing.

seems they're dreaming big and i hope to see it completed as envisioned, but at least in the configuration shown it doesn't really look as good as ES-DE android to me. can't say i really have any interest in the social features. it's something that i would certainly try out, as i do most android frontends, but i doubt it could take me away from ES-DE. maybe if the themes are as varied it could entice me over.

i'm a bit concerned that nintendo will try to kill it, though. they're certainly not being quiet about their visual inspirations. i don't particularly think nintendo would win a lawsuit against it, but i also don't think the project would survive a lawsuit, and i'm sure nintendo would agree.

It looks awesome don't get me wrong, and I wish them the best of luck....

@CyberRabbit showed me this the other day as well. But it doesn't do anything that Batocera and RetroArch don't already do, aside from a bell and whistle or two, and they are asking for money for certain things like themes, which I don't remember if RetroArch does, but Batocera does freely.

Unless the theme maker wants to charge, but that's not on Batocera.

I don't really need another frontend myself when Batocera, as I said, does everything this does and less cartoony looking.

This ain't for me, it's just a bunch of unnecessary style and bloat.

Seems cool, REALLY COOL. But yeah, it is hard not to get skeptic when someone is being so ambitious, especially with a (i think) small team and none to small budget. For now might be best to stay positive though, there is already too much negativity in the emulation space. And this guy at least sounds chill in the presentation.

The reason why I think there are paid features in iiSU is to pay for online features tbh

That would be a fair point I would think....

And if that's why, I can understand it. Nothing is free, not even revenge.... <coughs>
Anyway, most likely that's why, it pays for the social server costs. Again if you're into it, it looks really polished and well done. Just not my cup of rum, you know.

is the developer well known in the emulation scene? because it surprised me that it got this much attention in such short time. i also read some of reddit posts and a lot of positive comments posted there are from bots which got me worried.

Wouldn't it be funny if Sony would go against this app for using the XMB?

On a side note I hope it's a good fontend and not a style over substance thing, I want utility above aesthetic when I spend more time in game.

It’s a front end which means another Batocera or Retroarch which means another option out there. It never hurts to have options or any form of alternative as long as one differs at least a bit from one another.

And it seems to be for or at least has, an Android version, which is something Batocera doesn't have. So, good news for Android fans, I suppose.

Never been a fan of Android emulation, or mobile phone emulation in general.
Seems pretty awful, honestly...

Wait did i Type that or think that?
