Isometric 3D games.

I think the main issue is that 3D Blast, while being impressive for a game of the hardware, felt like out of place for Sonic, a series known for fast paced level progression. Especially when X-treme got canned so they made a quick port on the Saturn to say "here, a Sonic game for the hardware" despite not being representative of what the console could do (unlike Nights into Dreams or Burning Rangers).

Of course if you don't mind open ended level with finding things instead of a fast paced platformer it can be fine as a spin-off.

I also think that with a circular pad it's much more manageable than with a D-pad.

At least with the DX hack it got fixed in many aspects.

Sonic Classic Heroes is, aside from having a 3-players mode or even being able to swap between all 3 characters, a really impressive hack that combines two games in one full experience (especially when Sonic 1 is quite short). Megamix is maybe a bit too easy imo.

Scott reviewed it?

If it was my only sonic game on the a saturn I definetly would've had a different opinion; yes I can see why someone who values speed the most wouldnt care for it but I like the exploratory aspect of sonic (my fav games are CD, 3&K, Advance 3) and while its not as fast as the others you csan still be pretty agile and you have momentum and can do buffer jumping tricks contrary to something like sonic 4 or the boost games or the other 16 bit spin offs

Oh yeah I actually like it better with the analog stick! Its one of those 2d games with a full 360 turn radius like twinkle tale, those work better with the stick

I adore Classic Heroes, its has the option playing of playing solo and its Sonic 1&2 Deluxe! You get the better Sonic 3 sprite the spindash the insta shield the elemental shields..
All those bubble shields sure make labyrinth zone more brisk, so does playing with sonic+ tails and switching to miles who can swim

Yeah he did, last year or two years ago (in my old age the years kinda blend together::coffee)
I love scott but SOMETIMES he has stuff that irk my game freak know it all self ("the psp was a fad no one really cared for it thats wy it sold 80 milion units"::mad)

It's weird because while speed was the main marketing ploy for Sonic in fact the games were not about pure speed but momentum with platforming and some light exploration since the first game (especially regarding the upper sections of Green Hills and Starlight, the hidden rooms in Marble and Spring Yard and various ways to get to the best route in any levels. Of course Sonic 1 and CD are also the slowest of the Classics.

I think most people played Sonic 2 so they are more used to speed than exploration (Sonic 3&K was between 1 and 2 by separating the speed section of the level from the platforming and added some light exploring with the giant rings) so that's why they probably don't like an exploration focused game (especially when it was being marketed as the Sonic game of the Saturn).

To the point where Spinball was less frowned upon as a spinoff than 3D Blast maybe?

I forgot if Saturn 3DB was compatible with the 3D pad but it could be the best solution.

You're one of the few that prefers the 3&K sprites but I'm also agreeing that it's a good update of his design (even if his hands and shoes are bigger).

I should try a solo Sonic mode for this hack but I also wish they implemented an Encore Mode variant where you could switch between all 3 without having every characters on screen.

Sometimes reviewers make jokes but some other times their biased views are also influencing people that never verify sources so they easily parrot them online.

The Spyro games on GBA were pretty decent for a handheld collectathon.

Specifically Season of Ice, Season of Fire, and Attack of the Rhynocs.

Postal 1 baby, I love how it got ported to everything. In fact it was one of the first homebrew ports to the switch!

Unlike 2 you could comfortably call it a horror game

I regret nothing

Sooo many choices which Im happy to see are being posted here. I'll go with Captain Skyhawk for the NES that I played a lot of back in the day.
