Is the Atari Jaguar, 3DO & Amiga CD-32 apart of the 4th Gen or 5th Gen?

They don't feel like they belong in the same generation as PSX/N64/Saturn. but these system is competing against pre-existing 16-bit system like the SNES & Genesis.
When Late 1994-1996 came around the corner. These system already get discontinued and the PlayStation, Saturn & N64 is already on the market which graphics which is considered revolutionary at the time.

Is 3DO, Jaguar, Amiga CD-32 really considered to be apart of the Generation of the Genesis/SNES or PSX/Saturn/N64?

5th generation! They only beat the PS1 and Saturn to market by a year at most and a big push was for 3D gaming, just like the big 3 of the 5th generation. The 3DO and Jaguar were discontinued in 1996, 2 years after the PS1 and Saturn released. This means they technically spent more of their lives as direct competitors to the PS1 and Saturn - systems they are already far more comparable to anyways - than the SNES and Genesis.

After all, we don't consider the PC Engine a 3rd generation system despite it launching in 1987, beating the Genesis to market by a whole year just like the 3DO and Jaguar did. I know it can be weird saying that the generation technically starts with systems that flopped hardcore (though the 3DO is a neat little system) but it is what it is.

I would put the 3DO and Jaguar in the 5th gen because of their technical capabilities, and the Amiga CD32 in the 4th gen since it's basically an Amiga 1200 with an extra chip and a CD drive.

Agreed.

PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 is definitely a 4th gen console, despite its early launch and it having only a 8-bit CPU.

I'd put the Jaguar in the 5th generation due to its technical achievements, but I feel that there should be an asterisk next to it.

They are, have been, and forever will be fifth gen. The fourth Gen encompasses hardware based around 16 bit computer hardware that came around in the mid 80's. The 32 bit computers began to show up around 1992 or so. The first fifth gen machine is considered to be the FM Towns Marty, and these consoles came after that.

We don't count SEGA's add-ons as part of the fifth gen because they're for a fourth gen machine and do not work independently. Hope this helps!

Both the Panasonic 3DO, Atari Jaguar and the Commodore Amiga CD-32 are Desktop consoles from the 5th Generation of Consoles and also that both Desktop consoles that I have mentioned came out in 1993.
In terms of power, they are 5th gen.
In terms of game, they are 4th gen.

Yup. I love that transitional period where native polygon support is all up in the air, and even complex sprite tricks aren’t always supported, so you get games that are pushing the power limits of the most popular 16-bit machines but aren’t quite at the level of what we associate with the fifth generation yet.

Personally, I’d say sits on the fence between two generations somewhere between the 4th and 5th generation in my view.

The Jaguar had some exceptionally high-quality ports, sometimes even better than other console or MS-DOS versions. For example, Wolfenstein 3D on the Jaguar looked better, ran smoother, and had a higher resolution than on MS-DOS or the Super Nintendo arguably the best port across all consoles.

There were also some rare exclusives like Alien vs. Predator. It's really sad how things ended for the Jaguar, but I'm glad I got to discover it through emulation.

What's baffling to me is how little information there is about the FM Towns Marty. I mean, geeze, we know more about the Apple Pippen of all things than we do the FM Towns Marty

I have heard the Fifth Generation to be called the Graveyard Generation. Besides the big 3 and who you mentioned of 3DO, Amiga CD32, and Jaguar you have the corpses of the Apple Bandai Pippin, FM Towns Marty, Bandai Playdia, Casio Loopy, PC-FX, and iQue Player. Guess technically the Virtual Boy also slots in there and whether or not you would actually consider something like the Casio Loopy an actual console is up for debate. But yeah, no idea who decided on the divide between the 4th and 5th gen, someone with more authority than me, but you have your graveyard generation.
