in my opinion sonic adventure 2 is best on dreamcast, unless you REALLY want to get every last bit of chao garden content or you have a sibling and need co-op or something. rayman 2 is another multi-plat that imo is best on dreamcast. plus, that 480p vga output!!!!!
I'd say so! There's a lot of great games on it's medium-sized library and it's really easy to burn cds that'll run backups of dreamcast games if you don't mind doing such things!
Sega (hardware) ended with their best console, games like Soul Calibur and DoA2 have aged very well and still look great after 25 years... Dreamcast may have failed after PS2 offered the low-price DVD-Gaming System, but IMHO, Dreamcast was the first modern gaming system that didn't look so blocky... IMHO, yes, Dreamcast is worth it, it showed the future of gaming on many levels.
Why not.The Dreamcast was a good start into the console world but they just gave up like cowards. I would have liked to see what the Dreamcast would be like today.
I want one specifically for PSO, Quake 3, and Unreal Tournament. I love playing older systems, trying to get that 2000's experience. But Dreamcast collecting can be expensive. I just want one to mod honestly, there's still a slightly active player base in certain titles. I know NBA 2k2 is really popular on it.
I only own a Dreamcast for a few years and played only two games. I played the rereleases of the other games like Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi & Power Stone and felt they were alright. So are those the best games the system has to offer or am I good to skip the Dreamcast?
I think it's worth owning it has some awesome games I liked Grandia 2 , also has some nice racing games to choose from , A really good version of Rayman 2 in my opinion , Evolution is a good dreamcast rpg also that does have a GameCube version as well tho , Fighting Vipers 2 and Marvel vs Capcom/ Capcom Vs Snk really fun fighting games I also liked Tech Romancer and Plasma Sword Nightmare of Bilstein ( Basically my favorite 6th gen console was the GameCube but Dreamcast definitely worth owning in my opinion because some great games on it )
I’d say those aren’t the “best” games for the system, but I’ve also been thinking recently about how we far too often obsess over only having the best games. We look at lists and follow them as gospel.
One of my favorite games on the console is a fishing game. A list didn’t tell me that: happenstance did. SEGA Bass Fishing was cheap, so I got it when I couldn’t afford more expensive games in the library. Later, I would discover NBA 2K1 for only $3 locally. I gave it a shot because it was so cheap and I ended up having a blast.
Moral of the story is: I think you should keep it around. Unless you’re strapped for cash and could sell it to make some money to live, it does more good work for you if you keep it around to play. And think outside the box. In the modern day, you can easily look up Dreamcast games online and watch them to see if they look like something you’d enjoy. Though, I will say, don’t go to this system for 3D platformers or Arcade racing games, because the system is sorely lacking in options for those genres.
(Yes, I know it has games in both those genres, but the genres the system is best for are RPGs, Fighting games, puzzle games, and shmups.)

Oh, I know my post is already long, but one more thing that I wish I knew before getting into the system: In 2025, you get as much out of the Dreamcast as you put in.
And that bothers me. I ended up preferring Saturn because it’s less committal and can give you a lot with relatively little. The Dreamcast, on the other hand, can quickly become expensive if you don’t sit back and appreciate what you have. Making a mad dash to pick up a bunch of games will be punishing to your wallet, as will any upgrades for your system if you choose to go that route. The Dreamcast really does demand that you take it slow and appreciate every game you can get for it, since it’s cult status has led demand for every single thing you’ll be recommended for the system.
Honestly for me, any console from the 90s and early 2000s is worth owning. Robust designs, easy to mod, they have a fandom that continues to release hardware and software modifications.
And best of all, they have great titles that despite the limitations of their time they are very good games.

Im gonna get crucified for this one but yes. The dreamcast is great its got a cool homebrew scene and the best versions of multiplaform games of its time like soul reaver but most of the must play games are avaliable on other consoles.
That said thare are a few exclusives that to my knowledge are still only available on dreamcast heres a few recommendations :
Cosmic Smash
Record of Lodoss War
Zombie Revenge
D2
Dreamcast games are expensive as shit now so just burn them onto some blank CDs
