Why should I care about a deluxe remaster that had so much to add/change in relation to the original, but refused to do so?

Found it really disappointing and underwhelming. The changes felt like Bluepoint thought they were "fixing" the game's aesthetics while actively making them worse. All of the atmosphere has been sucked out of the world without anything meaningful added.

I might have said it was worth a playthrough if they added the Northern Limit zone, which was cut from the original, but nope. Just bad cosmetic upgrades and little else.

Wish they added the extra world. Bluepoint remakes could have been really awesome if they add stuff like the additional colossi in SotC. A missed opportunity imo

Demon's Souls (2020) is just OG Demon's Souls but prettier. Bluepoint keep all the jank the make the original miserable experience to play, while also overhauling/redesign that stray further from the original artstyle.

BonfireVN makes a lot of comparison video of OG and Remake, and most of the redesign turn everything into grotesque monster (like the Fat Official, and The Adjudicator for example).

If anything, it should be the reverse, keep all the artstyle the same and pretend you're trying to trace someone's work, while overhauling the gameplay, the fans would be more satisfied that way.

Given that the original ran pretty poorly and was stuck on PS3, yeah I think the remaster was as 'necessary' as any other port/remaster. I've never really cared about the 'art design' of the souls series which is pretty unoriginal grimdark fantasy most of the time. I also don't care about souls game lore though. I'm in it for the gameplay and the gameplay alone. So having the game run smoother on modern hardware with a higher resolution is an easy win for me.

The original runs at a stable 720p 30fps like 90% of the time, may not be up to modern standards but it's far from running poorly. Played through the game for the first time a few months ago, so it's not like I'm misremembering or anything. The remake existing means we'll probably never get a proper remaster, though I'd welcome a rereleased that ups the original to 1080p 60fps.
