Indie Indie titles to keep eyes on?

Reminds me of early 2000s games
About that...

Its an early 2000s game, it just wasn't able to be released at the time due to a lot of complications, but the Studio really wanted to make the game, and now, 20 years later, they finally can release it.

Maybe I'm reading too much into small details, and I'm open to being corrected on this, but Team Cherry always came across to me as kinda...hostile? Conceited? I'm not sure what the right term is.

The one thing that always comes to mind is the backer-character Tiso. He's treated like shit throughout the game and at first I didn't think much of it, but then I stumbled upon the backer's concept art for him. It looks like a child submitted it:

There's even suggestions for how Tiso would use his gear, none of which is ever implemented because he's treated like a joke. This left a really sour taste in my mouth and along with other questionable decisions from the dev team, caused me to distance myself from their games.
Damn I didn't know that, that's also quite suspicious don't you think?

Ah I see, so that's why. I'm looking forward to it though

To my knowledge, most of the other backer characters were those ghosts in the graveyard, if not other NPCs or even bosses. Hell, the graveyard ghosts have an NPC protecting them if they're attacked. Why the hell was Tiso treated so poorly in comparison?

Yeah that's pretty suspicious, poor Tiso though ::sadkirby

I've been mesmerized by Clair Obscure ever since its reveal. The music, the visuals, the story and its turn-based combat. I'm praying it will live up to everyone's expectations, because man, if they deliver everything they promise...

I've been quite excited for Mouse P.I. It got announced in like 2019 or something when it was in pre-alpha. It comes out this year, it's a boomer shooter with rubber hose cartoon aesthetic. Looks badass.

I've been keeping an eye on Scarlett Deer Inn, World of Anterra, Billie Bust Up. Moonlighter 2, Eitr, Mariachi Legends, Threads of Time

You guys have great taste! Love to see stuff like Banquet for Fools, Cross Blitz and .45 Parabellum on here!

My first pick - Heart of the Machine!
It's a super in-depth and unique 4X game with TRPG and City Builder elements by the guys that made AI War, if you're familiar with that game. All of their games are incredibly complex and through their sheer breadth end up feeling a bit like sandbox takes on their respective genres.

And second - Ostranauts!
This one is an equally in-depth Open World... Immersive... Space... Survival Sim (?) that allows you to play any number of ways (but you'll mostly be stripping space derelicts for parts and profit, really) while building up your team, ship and resources.

I'll be honest - neither game is all that approachable, but both make for unique, fresh experiences! Definitely recommend checking them out if they sound interesting to you.

Oh! I almost forgot to bring up Stoneshard!

With Caves of Qud being as successful as it is, this might be interesting for people as well - it's a top-down, turn-based open world RPG where you play a medieval mercenary nobody in a low fantasy setting and pretty much just try to survive. Which can be pretty difficult.
They're planning to eventually add a fleshed out story mode, but as it stands, it's mostly a sandbox experience with some narrative elements once you finish the prologue. I really like this one.

And its current demo

I'm really looking forward to Stray Children from Onion Games, the team behind Chulip and Moon.
Oh shit, how did I miss this?! I'm even subscribed to their newsletter and I had no idea this was a thing! Thanks for mentioning it! Hope they bring it westwards soon.

I'm looking forward to Kriegsfront Tactics by Toge Productions. The developer says it's a spiritual successor of Front Mission series. I hope it lives to the expectations.

I was disappointed with Left Alive. I don't know what's on Square Enix mind when they decided to make that game. It was an utter mess.

This has got to be the single coolest game trailer I have ever laid eyes on, at least for the last three years or so. Man, am I hyped for this.
I was drooling the first time I saw that trailer. The drool has not stopped. The game looks great in general, but that battle system looks very intriguing. From the little we've seen, it looks to be a Parasite Eve/Vagrant Story type of deal. Not had that in awhile.

Yeah, I've had my eyes on that one for awhile. Tactical RPGs are already my thing, but Front Mission style with locational damage and other neat stuff is far too uncommon. Have you ever heard of Phantom Brigade? The campaign and stuff is sadly disappointing, but the actual battles are super neat with the time prediction mechanics and it also has locational damage.

Damn, so many good recommendations in this thread. My wishlist is crying and begging for me to stop. Haha, no way bitch.

*cracks knuckles* I love to waste my time

Here are some recent projects I’ve been keeping track of hehe

From the developer of Dungeons of Blood and Dream. Don’t know a whole lot about this aside from the steam tags describing it as a “transhumanist sport sim” but it looks cool & I like the developer lol

multiplayer third person shooter-rpg. Love the art style & the combat looks fun. More crunchy psx looking games!

Sequel to Devil Spire. Open world, proc-gen dungeon crawler RPG inspired by games like Daggerfall & King’s Field. This entered early access a few months back & has been receiving weekly updates (that you can vote on in the games discord server). Veryyyy addicting gameplay loop, I’ve sunk like 50 hours into this so far despite the early access jank. Big recommend!

Survival-horror-crafting game inspired by Project Zomboid (the woes of being in early access for so long that fans say “fuck it” and make their own game)
Pretty early along in development from what I gather but it seems to play a lot like PZ while taking place in a derelict space vessel.

Gunmetal Gothic

This one looks really cool! I hope there's an option to get rid of the CRT filter though; I get it's a style choice but I hate how blurry it makes everything look

None : ), I still have so many SNES/GBA/GBC/PS1/PS2 games that are actual functional and good, why I would waste my time? tbh. ::beer
And there are also good and functional games made after the PS2 as well.

You can still play the classics but if you consider that playing modern indie games is a "waste of time" then why not the older ones as well?

because the older gen games are actually good and they have care and love put into them, and unlike the modern games in general i just put the game in and i can most often then not, enjoy a very good game.

and for indie "games" why would i play something that is a pale imitation of a older games that i can just play myself, either that or is a fucking boooooring yap/therapy session or a shitty Souls wannabe, like they love spaming those and it gets goofy after awhile, keep in mind this is just all my opinion bro. ::beer

Not all indies are souls-like, you clearly haven't checked more.
