Imagine forgetting a game that filled you with joy

I just had a talk with someone who about one of my favorite games Déraciné. They said they hadn't played the game in years and had honestly forgotten about it, thanking me for reminding them. This made me think. Granted the human memory is a fickle f**k, and so much goes on in our lives throughout the years that take precidence in our mind above novelties like videogames... but the thought of forgetting something that has brought you such an amazing narrative experience full of emotion, is a depressing thought indeed. But it's not just videogames. You could have a joyful experience with anything, be truly happy in that one moment... and then over time forget about the thing that made you happy.

Don't really know where I'm going with this other than trying to be deep and philosophical. But I guess I just wanted to share this thought with the rest of ya'll and maybe make you aware that perhaps there are things YOU have unknowningly forgotten about, that once filled you with joy? Maybe also make you aware to be extra careful to NOT forget the things that give you joy here and now.

Bruh, I can barely remember what I had for dinner some days.
Most recently, I had completely forgotten that The World Ends With You even existed until 3 Minutes Clapping randomly popped into my head.
I think senses like smell, sound, and taste are easier to form memories with than emotions.

Seeing as you're into literature, there was a time my uni literature lecturer had me analyze a short story 'The Lovely House' by Shirley Jackson, with my analysis being centered around the theme of the titular house being an analogy of our minds what with missing tiles and faded rugs representing our lost and neglected memories. Can't believe you dislodged that memory of mine as I've hated literature ever since I can remember and having to suffer through it to get my diploma was sheer torture. I think I still might have the essay somewhere LOL.

Oh I definitely think you are right about that. Memories are easier to "anker" if you connect them to one of your five sense.

I forgot about "Secret Agent" (the first game I was ever addicted to) for years and years, until I worked up the courage to ask about it on a board. It sadly happens.

I have huge holes in my memory where there used to be memories of beloved pets and grandparents. It's one thing to miss somebody, it's another to realize you can't even hold onto the memory.

I have Eidetic memory, so the oposite of what this thread is about.
People think that having good memory is awesome, it's more often than not terrible since I can recall bad events in my life with vidid emotion and sometimes physical pain, and even then if I don't have a semi-frequent stimulus to that memory, I tend to forget it, even the good stuff.
But for the sake of the thread, what I have to say is this: So far, I remember almost all video gaming experiences I had in my life, from my first console to what I played last week, since gaming is such an immersive medium, I can recall with great detail almost every segment a game has by memory alone, and reliving or even looking up information on it can trigger a memory of me playing it. So no, I don't think I have to fear forgetting the games that filled me with joy... Maybe the ones that didn't, but I guess I wouldn't be missing out on anything.

I've got a pretty good memory, but occasionally I'll come across a thing that I did totally forget about. It's a nice surprise when it happens, even if it's a bad memory. Then I can remember to forget about it again, even though that sounds like something winnie the pooh would say.
