Well, I'm currently enjoying Mega Man X Command Mission, despite not being into JRPGs.

That's still one of those mystical games for me as I've never tried it or even seen stuff other than screenshots of it. I should probably try it out too one day.

1. Shigeto Ikehara's Rockman 6 and 7, Irregular Hunter Rockman X, MegaMan NT Warrior manga, Yoshihiro Iwamoto's Rockman X mangas.
2. Bass (of course), ShadowMan, Serenade, and Dark MegaMan.
3. Personally, I'd define Bass's archetype as "entertaining asshole", and I like a lot of characters like that. From Mega Man alone, I also like Prometheus and Jack.

How would you feel about a Protoman that has both the charged shot from powered up and the (frankly useless) shield from Megaman 9?

I would be totally fine with this.
As they are, they're distinct enough to be in the same game without feeling redundant. However, I kinda want Bass to have Proto Man's double damage for balance, which would require reworking or removing the latter as a playable character altogether.
Believe me, I have an even harder time phrasing my answers.
