I don't know if this can be done on Xeno, but what the hell... just a shot in the dark.

I know that when you ignore a user, you don’t see them, but why can they still see you?
I wonder if there is a way that, if you ignore a user, it automatically makes them ignore you, and they can’t undo it. Some users as you know, bother specific other users just for the lulz, but if they were, say, getting ignored and couldn’t undo it, it would put a stop to it.

Basically, like muting each other from one end, where the person who ignores the other user could undo the ignore if they felt so inclined, but the user being ignored couldn’t undo it... just to see what the other user is posting.

I always thought it was odd that if you ignore someone, they can still see your posts.

Again dunno if it can be Done, just a shot in the dark.

there we go @Ikagura
Oh that reminds me of something.

The first pic is fine.

Respectfully, this is a bad idea.

We cannot allow this to become a social media platform where users lock themselves into bubbles of like-minded opinions.
This is a forum meant for open discussion and the exchange of ideas.

Troublemakers should be warned and banned. It has always been this way, and it has always worked.

We supposedly don't have the feature not to replicate the "echo chamber" behavior of social media in the forums, as some of the staff folks have said previously...

I for myself think this wouldn't be a bad thing either, since we have nothing like a recommendation algorithm in the forums, it would actually prevent many of the minor conflicts we have here.

Personally I've chosen not to ignore anyone, but I also would like if the feature was available for those who want or need it. So, upvote.
As much as I hate to say it, it isn't much better. I get the same vibes here as I do social media. There isn't nearly as much discussion to be found like there were on forums when the idea of forums was prominent, it's a lot more talking at people, not to them, a la social media.

yes, that's exactly what I pointed out here: https://retrogametalk.com/threads/ignored-users.18782/post-397430

it feels like most of the problems we have around here could be explained by the fact that xenforo devs are actively building the platform to feel like it's social media...

That's just the way of the internet now. Everything has to mirror Facebook or Instagram. It's a shame, it kills genuine discussion in favor of just about nothing. Like/upvotes != discussion.

Can't really talk in the forums, cause one wrong word & people will start arguments.
Let's go back to the old days, where we can say something & people can agree with it, without trouble.

And actually have discussions as well. It's sad when places like Reddit or Facebook have a better batting average of something turning into a positive discussion than a forum meant to facilitate said discussion.

But I haven't seen any of that here? If any it's very minute. Things seem pretty cohesive. Maybe I'm just not in the cool kids club so I don't know all the gossip

I'm a bit lost... When's the brawl? ;D
It’s the first day of the year everyone is too tipsy to a punch. While others are nursing a hangover they decided to grab some juice punch instead. ::eggmanlaugh

25 days from now I’ll be celebrating the first anniversary of the first DM I received and the first warning I received.

Now that’s what I call a double event celebration! ::eggmanlaugh

The folks who are saying it's just about blocking different opinions are missing the plot here.

Both myself and some other's have been dragged into outside drama here and actively harassed and targeted before, and having a better safe-guard against that would be nice. The mods generally do a good job of deleting/shutting down said harassment when it crops up, but there's very little in place at the moment to prevent a continuation of it when it happens.

There has been pretty alarming stuff happening in the past here, like multiple attempts to brigade my private Discord server and rather explicate things being sent unwanted to friends of mine, there are genuine reasons to ignore well beyond differing opinions here.

What was sent? Who sent it? External factors shouldn't be effecting the site if you don't bring them into the site. People invite drama by having these little discord enclaves too, I feel.

That's precisely what I was trying to get across, Ranmy.
I don't want to just have a bunch of blocked users because someone dislikes my grandmother's cookie recipe. I think the ignore feature should go both ways, partly because the reason for blocking someone is often based on a factual or true reason to ignore that user.

No, I don't want someone to block simply because they dislike the person.

Going to using you here, Ranmy, hun.

Okay, let's say User A. I don't like Miku and just block all Miku related stuff and Ranmy because of the said love for Miku. I hardly want that. Or, for instance, "I don't like Mario, so I block all Mario users." No, that's dumb, that's asinine, and sorry for using the word, but it's fucking retarded to do that.

Again, I’m sure some users would just auto-block people because they don't like what they say, but hey, fuck 'em. If they are that petty to do so, let 'em. didn't need to see or hear their opinions to begin with.

I agree with this. I wanna block someone because they are causing trouble for me, not because I hate them or their like of something.

That's the entire point though. I don't want outside factors effecting my experience here, but some chronically online people make it a mission to bother and harass others.

As far as Discord goes, a few of us meet here and want to coordinate games and movies together, it shouldn't be any drama, but a few people overthink it and cause it.

I get what you're saying, but that's MY point. Dumb shit is bound to happen in these off site meet ups. I'm glad the least of it was a little trolling. Know what I mean? It's a whole other topic to debate on the whole but it clearly was an example of cause and effect. Outside sources bring outside bullshit.

Some confrontations doesn’t end with a thread being deleted/closed or an entire profile post interaction being nuked by the moderation team. That’s where the “I can’t see you and you can’t see me” setup would be proved useful. Some issues would definitely drag way beyond on what I said earlier. Trying to shut some people up would definitely try to dog up a whole to crawl out with and continue to pester others. At least if they can’t see you then maybe they’ll stop bugging you, avoiding someone could only do much but being invisible to their eyes will definitely go a long way or even down to the homestretch.

First of all, I’m sorry that you and others have had issues with problematic users in the past. That really sucks.

That said, I don’t think we’re missing the point. The solution is clear and already exists: warn and ban troublemakers.

We can’t adopt a "better safeguard" approach at the cost of limiting open discussions, which are the very purpose of a forum. Blocking users like on social media goes against the nature of this space.

There also doesn’t appear to be such a large number of problematic users that the current moderation team can’t handle it. If there is, maybe the answer is more moderators, not new blocking mechanisms.
