If Dreamcast is the last console of SEGA, then why we have Naomi?

Marvel V.S. Capcom 2 is the most popular I think you can still find even in places you wouldn't expect. I dare to say if people had to don't sacrifice one NAOMI machine it would be the one that has Marvel V.S. Capcom 2 lol.

The game is very fun, but also why it's popular is the recent Americanization thought virus spreading into Japan like an epidemic. There are lots to say about it but know just because of Marvel appeal too Marvel V.S. Capcom 2 is really a game there should be in arcade places.
I must admit, if given the choice of game, I’d choose to have Ikaruga represent Naomi’s arcade legacy in arcades anywhere. But that’s off personal bias. The chaos, recognized characters, multiplayer fun, and sense of style that MvC2 contains has carried the game in the western region over the years. That carry has only been emboldened by the (very late to the party) adoption of esports as a legitimate staple in western culture, to the point even my grandmother has talked to me about it. Coming with that: many stories and players from the 2000’s and early 2010’s transcending the game into legend.

MvC2 may not be anywhere near my favorite fighter (that honor goes to Virtua Fighter 2) but it’s old reliable. It’s the kind of game you don’t have to have played before to be interested in, as it’s visual/audio presentation is one of the most potent I’ve ever seen for a game.

Mhm you have summarised why the game is loved so much. I don't particularly care about Marvel but I love Gambit a lot since a X-Men game on SEGA Genesis (he is just so cool, no homo though), I still think even playing random Marvel characters adds extra fun to this game.

I'm glad it also exist on PS2 so I can play the game on my like 20 years old machine but if it wasn't in any console other than arcade I know I would just buy an arcade machine just to play that game, it's that gooooood lol.

It's okay. We can always put them outside our window just like what we have to do with new GPUs lolol.

On the subject of karaoke:

It is actually wild just how much of the development behind certain systems stems back to karaoke.

As in, the main reason SEGA/Mega CD was born was to be a Mega Drive in Karaoke clothing, as SEGA hoped people would want a cheap CD player for that and would buy a Mega Drive just to use it.

That would be hilarious if it weren’t very telling of how desperate they were for Mega Drive to make a splash in their home country.
And that turned out very badly for Sega on the Dreamcast. The vulnerability that allowed pirated games on that system was found in it's capability to run special karaoke CD discs.

Actually the previous apartment I lived in Japan there was a guy who mounted his PS4 just outside of his window. I'm surprised he replaced it with PS5, I just checked on Google Maps lololol:

trgrtg1.png

It's very close to a railroad therefore I always feared his PS4 would fall on me while walking pass it especially when train was passing due to shaking. However I rather enjoyed walking along this railroad anyway for reasons I have no idea. Perhaps the spirits of the railroad were blessing me or something!!!

lol, that looks so fake. It seems like somebody hacked into Google Maps and placed a picture of a PS5 in there. Watch out Google! :D

Naomi who? Tf does Naomi Wild have to do with Sega, have they collabed or some shit?

No joke I think Sega should try releasing a handheld
Hmm. There are really fun arcade games that only stuck in arcade places as they are not released on video game consoles. Technical reasons aside they could be very well playable on video game consoles like some online card games but this is very simple example. While how fun these games may be, physically going to public places just to play them sometimes unreasonable and unrealistic.

So SEGA could release a handheld arcade system you can play anywhere you are.

Some might question why and they would be right. When there are Nintendo and Sony exist and especially Nintendo handheld games are so popular who would play handheld arcade game? This question makes sense.

But then in Japan video game culture is weird. It's divided by arcade gamers and video game console gamers. Arcade gamers really doesn't care about video game industry, they just waste time in arcades for various reasons. They may were bored before meeting with someone, they just came from work, et cetera. These gamer types are not serious gamers who would care about spending long times on a game enough to care about learning its story or making a progression they would like to save. They just wanna do something to distract themselves. Because of it they wouldn't play any Nintendo and Sony game. But they would bother buying a handheld arcade machine.

Then another question arises: "Dude who would buy it when smartphones are super computers that's filled with so many great mobile games?". It's a logical question. But weakness and why repulsive smartphone gaming is for some people is touchscreen gameplay. To arcade gamers feeling the buttons is a better sense. They also don't care enough to fill their phones with games or care about playing games on phone. If smartphone gaming was a big thing in Japan Nintendo couldn't exist. They produce even Switch 2 without forcing you to touchscreens for a good reason. I don't mean it has no touchscreen, I tried to mean they still use physical buttons for a good reason. You gotta feel the button you press before you do special attacks, man lol.

So would SEGA handheld device that attract arcade gamers would sell well?: The thing about business is it's either a good idea or also a bad idea so I don't know.

If I had worked for SEGA and was tasked to come up with a handheld video game console, I would play my bet on arcade games combined with Augmented Reality glasses.

What's Augmented Reality? It's a technology that can turn real world combined with game world. Imagine you walk on streets killing digital people you see on your glasses. (My idea.)

So I twisted your SEGA handheld idea and added it as Augmented Reality glasses with a controller you can use in many ways, and also being able to play the arcade games on that game controller because game controller will also have a screen on it. You may think something like a PSP that you can also use as a weapon to point and shoot in Augmented Reality games you play via its special glasses.

Valve believe virtual reality games will be future of gaming. The fat guy doesn't think no one wanna lose their ability to see just to replace it with Half-Life, swinging their hands by risking breaking their hands. These headsets are too uncomfortable to even enjoy playing for me.

But I think Augmented Reality gaming will be the future of gaming. Imagine you wear a special glasses with headphones, and enjoy the video game reality you can see via game world that combine real life with game world. Imagine playing The Last of Us when these characters dies or something in your room. They sit on your bed, even sleep on your bed. But it depends on where you are. The whole game can be processed via an AI to make it flexible according to where you are. If you are on street, the designated act of "lying down" of the character in that specific scene can be lying down on the floor. It means a dynamic gameplay that what characters does and says depends on where you are too. These games may also have a version that characters are a part of the AI that respond to you according to what you say to them. But I don't think forcing players to talk via their own voice in real life would hinder the appeal of these games so it can be either optional or there may some specific games that's meant to be played like that. So despite the game is Augmented Reality, players should be able to pick dialogue options via physical buttons.

But since how costly it's, every video game company would reject my idea lol.

We hit on the wall of how we use terms that lost their original meanings as it got shorter and shorter.

NAOMI is New Arcade Operation Machine Idea. It's an arcade machine but still a type of video game console.

Sega Dreamcast is not just a video game console, it's "home video game console" same as PlayStation 5 and whatnot for example but people call them "video game console" which is not wrong per se, however they can be also called "home console". They came up with this term to advertize them as arcade machines you can play in your home. It indicated they fit into your home without taking up much space. Because of it it was "wow" to society when something so small could run decent games on them just on your TV so you don't have to bother going to arcades!!! It was high technology moment yo lol.

So if SEGA Dreamcast is considered as last "console" SEGA ever developed then they have no idea what SEGA does in Japan, same as how people thought Konami went bankrupt back then when they shifted business on tons of pachinko machines and mobile games by not releasing PC video games as they used to that made great impact in video game industry back then lol.

However if there are still SEGA fanbois who cry "why SEGA forsaken us from not blessing us with new video game consoles anymore" they can buy some giant SEGA arcade machines SEGA keeps spamming and put it in their home and act like it's "home video game console" lol.
Thank you! Now I know why Naomi it’s not an Video Game Console.

I don't want any new hardware from Sega. It would only kill what's left of them.

They need to focus on porting and releasing everything to Steam and GOG on PC.
Yes, I still wait Persona 5 on PC, not Persona 5 Royal because Royal version is just awful lol.

I wouldn't say very badly.

Sega was already cooked, and they killed the hardware before piracy was rampant or easily accessible online. The PS2 hype was killing them, and the Xbox was far along enough that it was going to happen regardless of whether or not they stayed in the market.

The vulnerability did lead to easier commercial homebrew titles in the DC scene, which kept Sega's fan base going. The DC scene is still going after 25 years, and the Saturn scene really picked up in a huge way in the last decade, because of cartridge firmware and ODE options making it easier to deploy and boot software.

The real casualty to piracy and vulnerabilities was the PSP during it's time on the market.

Gotta say even as a SEGA fanboi who could even love 32X and SEGA CD like my own son (what? lol) I really left SEGA Dreamcast and SEGA Saturn into trash bin like my bastard sons and just bought a PlayStation 1. Being fan is nonsense when you disagree with what you were a fan of. SEGA had no idea how to develop a video game and came up with a video game library anymore. They lost all their magic. The worst is SEGA also forgot their own wisdom on why people liked their game. Cannot imagine they cannot comprehend why SEGA Genesis was good. Same BS as Sony, they forgot why PlayStation 1 and 2 was good. I would want to say "same BS as for Nintendo" but Nintendo could never produce something I would be interested in, despite I understand and agree with their natural success. For me Nintendo is always the same, doing the same and people love them because of it. SEGA and Sony has lots to learn from because Nintendoes what they can't do anymore lololol.

Why not? It's been long enough. We've got a lot of revivals going at once. They have more money to play with. Nintendo needs competition. They can aim lower and have it be cheaper. Watch the money roll in.

What IPs does Atari have that hasn't been done better by Konami or Namco? I'm talking about the shmups. Atari has no mascots. Sega does. Atari had what, Space Invaders? Asteroids? Missle Command? It can't claim ET, that was a movie and it had other games on other platforms. All Atari can do is release mini consoles and collections. No offense to Atari fans. Simple is fun. But it was the generation before video game characters appeared. Pac-Man was Namco. Heck Sega and Nintendo even released games for Atari. It was the only platform at the time that sold the most but only because it had everything from the arcades. I hate the Atari argument because it's never thought out fully.

I dare not mention mascot IP Bubsy too often, lest it release it's horrors upon the world again.
