Ideal Nation to Settle Down ?

Once again I may remind people that "gaijins" aren't really as accepted.

No matter how good you can speak japanese you'll definitely be seen as a stranger (hell, even other asian people like Chinese and Koreans are seen as outsiders from them).

I think Japan is good when you're a tourist (well, despite what some are doing recently sadly) but some countries are better to visit than live in.

PS: if you wanna visit France you should go south, avoid the capital and big cities, you won't see the actual country with only these places. I'd argue the same for most countries as well.

Im still waiting for your reply to me telling me what I know to be different.

Of course gaijin arent fully accepted as Japanese but as long as you make the effort youll be fine, its not like its ever stopped Ex Pats before. And while you may be an outsider, most Japanese folks will give you a fair shake. If they see you put in effort, theyll look at you more fondly for respecting their culture and customs. But they arent going to snobbily look down at you, and if they do? It wont be to face. Any country has that. Any country will have people like that who look down at you.

Its a fine visit but its also solid to live in if you enjoy the country, food, people and culture.

I do kind of wonder where this massively slanted view of Japanese folks originated considering Ive got multiple friend groups who welcome me with open arms and treat me extremely kindly even if I am gaijin. And anytime Ive needed help in Japan from officials or Law Enforcement Ive always been treated properly and taken seriously.

No one said France. Youre responding a lot to what people want telling em its wrong. No one was asking for a "Askshully Japan is pretty bad and not like anime". We were answering a question simply, Its titled "Ideal nation to settle down" with the OP post of "whats yours and why?", not "This is why Japan isnt actually as good as everyone thinks".

Right there is no perfect Nation not really and Japan also has problems like every other Nation has,yet its Beautiful and the People a Friendly and Respectful for the most part, the only down side for some people not me is that In Japan you are expected to behave yourself in Public unlike most western Nations today sadly,so I do like that about Japan to where you can walk down the Street and even at Night without some Nutjob annoying you.

Ive had female friends I know who work bar or restaurant jobs, theyre always walking home, alone past midnight and always make it home okay. They really are surprised how concerned people get over their saftey because really, its one of the safest countries on Earth, especially for women or kids. Never fully, and less so because of certain groups coming into the country, regardless though.

Its a lot nicer then most of the streets of my own Country or the ones near me. And frankly? Having a safer country, with less crime, cleaner streets, and efficient and cheap public transport? Brother that blows all of North and South America into the water for me lol, they cant compete with somethin like that

Yeah we all should take some advice from the Japanese in that regard,Its probably the Social Degeneration that we suffer in the west that has a huge part in making our Societies unclean unhealthy and unsafe as those problems largely did not exist in the Past, maybe you also heard the tales of back then where they did not even lock doors or when they lost there Wallet and nobody stole it when we had a High trust society that is all but lost today.Japan for the most part has still such a Society thank god.I feel really Homesick sometimes for a time that I never Experienced :( anyway here is some relaxing walk trough a Japanese Village.

For Example America back then.
Clean/Safe and the People dressed Well a High Trust Society and a Overall good Zeitgeist and I know we had problems back then to but compare it to today.
I also blame the Destruction of the Nuclear Family and the Family unit as a whole for the downfall of Society
There is a Reason why back then we had a Positive outlook on the Future almost Utopian and nowadays almost all the Future we can think about is dystopian Cyberpunk style.

For real, just last year I was in Osaka for Universal and to go see a few of my Kansai brothers. And I was in the subway near DenDen town, walked on the subway, backpack slung on one shoulder, it sat down and before I realized it, I was leaving without my bag and the train was long gone, like 7 minutes past. Had my passport, spare cash, charging bank and my Fumo in it. Spent 3 hours going to multiple stations, nothing, using translators and my own skills, no one could find it, went back to the hotel, next day filed report, did some shopping to try not to think about things and eventually tried one last time on foot.

Turns out, its finally been processed and registered and found. It was the EXACT station right after I got off, and right after it was supposed to get there. So someone saw I left my bag as I walked out, took it, gave it to an official to turn in all within the span of 4 minutes. Got it back, everything was there perfectly.

It wasnt the Japanese I was worried about, it was all the foreign tourists in Japan who dont act like the Japanese. I knew JP folks woulda turned my stuff in, I know I can leave my stuff out at a table at Micky Ds around em, I wouldnt risk it if there were non JP folks around.

Japan surely isnt perfect but fuck me, its way nicer then most place Ive been, or lived.

True the Japanese overall have a high Character but sadly Japanese Family structure also has broken down because of the Economy and Hostile working Culture so I worry for them on the long term. But they still have a high trusting Society so its not all lost yet,but they need to fix there Working Culture to make it more Family Friendly to make it easier for the Japanese to Marry and Have Children.

Its something I see a lot of my friends worry about, those with and without families. The culture is so borked, and its so rigged to only be advantageous to the elderly but still the human desire to have a family right? Sadly its resulted in poor policies leading to issues that are dropping Japan faster and faster from a high trust society and thats the saddest thing. Its not even the Japanese people bringing the high trust down, its the outsiders. Granted this is just a repeat of Japans history as it was back in the day when we forced open the country. I only hope they can endure it.

Yeah that is quite sad I wish the Japanese would have the Money to move out of the Big Cities into Smaller towns and into the Countryside to Become Farmers or to establish small businesses in a Family friendlier environment, where they don't have to suffer the constant pressure,as I Believe that Big Cities are just not that Family Friendly overall with small Apartments and Overpopulation.I just hope that Japan doesn't follow the west in our terrible decisions any further the Japanese should do what is best for the Japanese. They should really try to leave the Cities if they can as I see little hope there for them,at least not with how the things stand Today they also should not let the youth consume to much Internet if they want to prevent Degeneration of the broader youth as there is some fucked up shit in the Internet.Only if they can keep there high Morals intact can they start rebuilding there Family Structures.

Hey, what about not turning this thread political for once?

I'd take anywhere but here. the USA fucking sucks ass

civil war 2 when?
Regardless of your opinion regarding this country I'd argue that even as a joke you shouldn't beg for a war, especially if it would involve innocent victims.

Yeah this thread should not be Political its about where to settle down.and Nobody wants a Civil War besides maybe some people that don't really get how gruesome a war is.
Miku for President when ? Miku the Eternal Leader ;)

Most people wanting it are thinking they'll stay safe or that nobody from their families could fall victim from it.

I don't know what you mean by "social degeneration" but you also seem to be biased and glorifying the past when we got selective memory.

I meant by Social degeneration the raising Egoism/Nihilism and the raising Drug use of Medical Drugs and Illegal once.Wich leads to less trust Safety and Social Coherence, and the breakdown of Family structure also helped a lot by alienating many people from the broader Society.

Yeah... A Civil War is one of those things that no one understands just how dire or gruesome would be. We shouldn't be pining to kill our neighbors and family, or possibly see our neighbors kill our friends or family, over political beliefs.

I 100% agree about the state of things here, but war isn't the answer.

I also did not glorify the Past as I did say we had Problems back then to,just compared to today it was better but not perfect so don't put words into my Mouth. Also yes I am Biased I admit that because I am a Human being every Human being is Biased in some way this is unavoidable. And when I said we should take advice from the Japanese I meant we should look at the Japanese as they seem to do some things right that we in the west don't.

I dunno about "ideal" but I've always wanted to live in rural Spain.

The food and cinema in that country are both amazing and the history is interesting as fuck.

Spanish Inquisition Time GIF

Great Choice, its a lovely country with a Great Culture and Friendly people.

The nation you were born in. We would have a happier world if people respected the land of their ancestors and kept their roots there.
You can't be more wrong. People in Spain does not respect even other spaniards, for many reasons I won't mention here because I could write a bible. So, no, many other countries would fit better.

Isn't there any stronger word than "absolutely"?

Have you lived in Japan or do you have family in there? Japan is a wonderful country that has its own flaws of course, but nothing you say is 100% true. I hope you talk by experience and not by reading some stuff on internet or watching some videos on Youtube from people who use to lie or tell biased info.

I've lived in Japan and the friends of my family accepted me and had fun with me, even though I speak horrible japanese. Everywhere I went people treated me with respect and wonderfuly. And if I had a situation where I felt the japanese person was a little harsh is because I understood it was because of work stress. Why? maybe because I acted like they do and showed appreciation of understanding about their culture. They knew I was a "gaijin", but they respected me because I tried hard.

When you go to a different country, you should respect the place and the people like it was your grandma, if you can't you better stay at home. I've seen many tourists behaving correctly in Japan, but a few of them behaving like they were in their own country and I felt I wanted to slap their faces so hard I would break my hand.

Japan is a country where they don't give you a gift when you do a good thing, like a dog, they just assume that's the correct behaviour. What they do is they punish you when you do a bad thing, which is the right behaviour in my humble opinion. If we get used or educate our children to get things when they behave good, they will always behave bad to get what they want. It's an horrible western type of education.

Now, I would say that there is no ideal nation to settle down. I've lived in a few countries, and all of them are amazing to settle down.

Philippines is full of wonderful and sweet people, they embrace you like you were family.
Portugal has lots of nice people, and they are quite respectful. But what made me fall in love completely with that country is the weather. Summer is cold at night, and as I can't stand hot, that's perfect for me.

I could explain many things from these countries and in the future from more countries I will go live to if I can. But what I am completely sure is that I would never recomend my own country for living. That would also be too long to explain here.

Isle of man UK its a tax free haven and every summer theres a massive motorbike race in may which would be the busiest week of the year. As im from Northern Ireland it would be very possible. The cats there have no tails. Manx cat.

I do love how some are asked "What nation would you like to settle down in the most and why?"

And then use it to start country bashing. Gotta love it.

Dont know why I expected more from a forum in 2025 but here we are I suppose.

Some People are just bitter or do Dislike Certain Countries wich is sad.I don't hate any Nation so I can't understand there Hatred maybe the Dislike Certain Governments and Confuse that Hatred for a hatred on a whole Nation.
Every Nation has a right to Exist and has something good, the sooner some people understand that the better it is,if you have to dislike something about a other country dislike the Policies and not the People and Nation.

I just get real tired of hearing my countrymen bitch about my country. Its not perfect sure but there are way worse places to live. Especially for some of these folks that hate it so.

Im used to it, and half of its called for to an extent. Its just the lowest fruit punching bag out there when there are absolutely insane alternates.

Honestly what really gets me is even when given the rails to be positive and expressive? Folks still choose negativity. Dunno, just not my cup of tea.
