How often do you deep clean your consoles?

I will open it to clean it if I see the fan is dusty. I also open and clean my controllers too.

Confession, I never deep clean any of my consoles before. The oldest one would be PS2 and PS3, both are still running fine.
To be fair, I do clean up my gaming area a lot, at least once a month.

The only console that I ever deep clean (because I need to replace the thermal paste constantly, fuck Cali summers) is my PS4, that blocky SOB seems to be a magnet for dust, no matter how often I clean it with the softest makeup brush I can, it still gets coated in the stuff.

I dust mine every month or so, but the only one I think might be due for a deeper clean is my ps2. Everything else has been opened recently.

Every couple of months. I just open them up and dust them with compressed air, especially the fan. It's good to do from time to time.

How often do I what

The only console I've needed to deep clean are the PlayStation 4 ones. Dust really clogs up the heatsink and roaches like nesting on the power supply board.

But those were second hand. Afterwards I've never needed to clean them again. Keep your room clean, and quit eating junk food outside of the main eating areas of your home! The smell attracts the rodents to those places.

All my consoles are kept sealed up, they get brought out about every 3-5 years for a good cleaning. even tho they have been sealed air tight.

Like my PC's tho, those get monthly tear downs, air cleaning, and a Thermal paste check.
And like a few users said, i am surprised when someone brings me a console and its not working, only to find out, a simple can of compressed air could have fixed it.

Well, it always depends on how much you use the console and the ambient surrounding it (the worst is dust in the air + a certain humidity percentage... 😬)
Anyway, I usually clean it at least 1 time every 3 or 6 months.

I usually don't like to write much but this is Important:

I Clean my consoles once per month on the surface, including Controllers, Cables and other Accessoires.
Once every 6 months i disassamble anything that is possible and Clean the insides. Isopropyl Alcohol, compressed air and clearn microfibre towels. When consoles are not used I actually put them in sealed bags and vacuum seal them to avoid grime, dust etc. A Clean console will Last longer, if taken care well off. People complain for example about loud and hot PS3s, mine is only loud because I set the Fan to be higher than needed too keep it cooler.

Take care of your stuff Guys. Retro consoles and games are getting more and more rare.

I've only ever cleaned my PS2 once, mainly because the fan would literally start screaming as soon as I started to play something demanding like Jak X
I put thermal paste on the chip and even though it worked I'm wondering if I should have put a thermal pad on it instead, because of contact surface area and such
(It had a thermal pad before I opened it, but it was dry and leathery, and I doubt it was actually doing its job at that point lol)

Not as often as I maybe should, thinking about it. 🤔

I just embarked on a quest to clean a PS1. I traded my old system for one with the Parallel I/O port to allow for some very basic “””mods”””. This new one was truly filthy. It had soda spilled inside of it, which had stained the internal components and even attempted to corrode a section of the board! Yikes!

It’s back to life though! I still need to replace the optical drive (I’m a filthy disc enjoyer) with one that is far better. The actual system however works great, and it’s been able to boot any game I’ve thrown at it. It’s just that the poor drive has seen better days, and a good clean didn’t do the trick on fixing it.

I used to have a used fat PS3 that would be eventually be incredibly loud, but one day when I was playing GTA V I was driving in the game and all of a sudden the console turned off. I believe after that it had the red light of death and I had to say good bye.

My PS4 slim eventually sounded like a jet and I had someone clean it, because I'm scared to touch my PS4. It helped a little, but I guess they didn't do a good job, because it was still very loud.

I'm scared to touch my PS5 and PC. I know I should really clean them, but don't want to mess up.

Surface cleaning yeah. I have the PS3 super slim and that awful drive door attracts dust like a magnet. It's weird plastic with this ribbing like a bathroom cabinet I once had. It feels really cheap compared to the rest of the console. I wonder why they went with that. Maybe they got a bunch of it cheap from some warehouse that couldn't sell it. :loldog

I haven't opened a console up in ages. My handhelds are kept in cases when not in use and I don't smoke. They are pretty clean. I used to take my 3DS outside. But not anymore.

My Gamecube was secondhand and maybe I should clean it. I've had it for well over 20 years. It's been through several moves and so has my PS3. Both were in storage for over a year too. I only kept my 3DS with me during that period. I don't really have many tools though to open things. I used a hair clip to change my 3DS battery. 😓

I barely open up my consoles so for the most part I mostly use my duster to do the job as well as using one of my Air Duster if needed.
