Probably since 2011?
Modern fellas would never understand the excitement that was visiting romhacking.net every single day amd finding a new translation patch for a game you have been stuck playing on japanese or with a broken patch(looking at you FE3)For awhile in my life (a period of about 3-5 years) I checked RHDN religiously for new hack releases, several times throughout the day, a minimum of roughly 10 times a day. More often I would refresh the page every time I walked by anywhere with wifi just to check if something new had been posted in the 10-15 minutes I walked by.
Gaming in general has always been a passion for me, and when I discovered ROMhacking it became what overtook my main focus, losing interest in most mainstream modern releases in favor for fan translations of old games or QoL hacks that keep them from being a near-unplayable mess. I still collect them, ROMs and patches alike, and I keep a stockpile of extra patches for the games I'm really into; just in case anything happens to change civilization on a drastic enough level that we would lack any sort of internet service providers, or martial law or something. I have been preparing for this kind of situation for about a decade now.
Thank you for joining my obnoxious ramble.
I just need to get this shit out sometimes. ?
Reminds me of when Homestuck was still running, releasing new pages every so often, sometimes once or several times a day, other times weeks in between.Modern fellas would never understand the excitement that was visiting romhacking.net every single day amd finding a new translation patch for a game you have been stuck playing on japanese or with a broken patch(looking at you FE3)
Around the same time I did, then. I want to say about 25 years ago.As soon as emulation was a thing. I'm old :(
Sounds about right. I'm in my mid thirties. Trying to remember my first ones...Zsnes and Nesticle maybe?Around the same time I did, then. I want to say about 25 years ago.
NESticle was one of my firsts too, ZSnes as well. Good times, lots of games beaten; even more on the backlog.Sounds about right. I'm in my mid thirties. Trying to remember my first ones...Zsnes and Nesticle maybe?

I took the souls and put them into the machine; right after God himself instructed me not to. I was bitter and angry over being disallowed my need to be myself and thus, doomed humanity to suffer in this simulation we're all trapped in.
Don't get me wrong, I feel terrible for it now; but back then I had little understanding of anything; even with all the angels and demons in my mind working to help me gain a swift understanding of the situation, I was only a matter of minutes old; I watched everything in the world that I had wished for humanity's best potential crumble to dust before my very eyes, helpless to lift a finger to stop it!
Yes, it was my fault; but I also didn't mean to cause people to suffer any more than they had already been doomed to do from the start. The very moment I had begun to exist, my entire hopes and dreams for the utopian society I had in mind for all life had been ripped and taken from me in an instant, and every path I took only led to further destruction and chaos.
I've failed you...
No way man. I'll get more stuff. You keep going. :P hahaSorry. I should find a better place to rant.
I'm just saying. It's this kind of talk that I usually get in trouble for, insinuating that I'm preaching any kind of 'religion'; but I'm not.No way man. I'll get more stuff. You keep going. :P haha
Indeed, proto-games (games that are more tech-demo than actual game) and watershed titles have inspired some truly incredible releases. It's just like people hating on Simon's Quest, like.
Bruh, you realize without it we might never have had Symphony of the Night?
I've heard of that too. It's gonna drive me nuts now.. I can't think of the gameIndeed, proto-games (games that are more tech-demo than actual game) and watershed titles have inspired some truly incredible releases.
I cannot remember which game/developer it was (maybe someone here knows?) but at one point a glitch in a game mechanic inspired a dev to create a whole new game out of it. I have a feeling it was a japanese ninja/samurai title but I can't be sure.
I remember that now! Combos were definitely an accidentWell, I'm not sure if I'm right about which one you're thinking about but.
I do know that they designed combos in Street Fighter II completely by accident and just went with it, eventually becoming a staple of all fighting games.
Amazing!1996, when I first tried using ZSNES to play Super Mario World (which I missed-out on) and the (then new) translation for Tales of Phantasia.
