How long have you been emulating games?

Early 2000s. The first one I remember emulating was Tales of Phantasia with the DeJap translation. After that got my feet wet, I dove right in. Played pretty much every SNES JRPG I could get my hands on and a handful of Genesis games too. Did my best to emulate GBA and PS1 games not long after to little success.

My favorite version of Phantasia, even though all the remakes probably had tons of extra content. The whole series is amazing, really worth checking out. ?

I used to have a modded wii. Unfortunately, that is not the case anymore due to time complications. I want to experiment wii emulation through Dolphin, but I need more time for that. I believe I still can use the wii sensor bar for emulation on Dolphin.
Oh it's fun. I remember playing Yoshi Universal Gravitation (Topsy-Turvy in NA) using the WiiMote due to it having motion control compatibility. It was an experience for sure!

Everything changed when I went to a friend's house in 2000 and he showed me ZSNES on his computer. All those games I used to play, all there on a seemingly endless list. It was my gateway for emulation and my love of computers.
Got my first PC a couple years later and managed to get a copy of BLEEM!

The rest is history.

I got started with emulation back in around 2016 or so... I started off by homebrewing my wii, and from there it all spiraled to today :), where I only dust off the console if I absolutely must.

i thiiiink i started maybe back in the early 2010s as a preteen, mainly was interested in the pokemon romhack scene & i would download the romhacking tools to try to see what i could do with them (giving the fem trainer pink hair & setting mew as the starter ofc)

rip to emuparadise that was like, thee place 12 year old me would go to find roms lol

I'm honestly not sure which is my favorite version. The SNES version is the start of it all and a true classic, but the extra stuff added by the later editions is very enticing. Namely, giving Chester a set of artes and adding Suzu as a playable character. More battle options are always welcome. So that makes me lean towards the PS1 version a bit. It's English translation is even available on this very site! I would like to give the Cross Edition for the PSP a try, but it's not gotten a fan translation yet. You really can't lose with either the SNES or PS1 version, but you will lose if you get the phone versions.

But yeah, Tales is a great series. While I started with Phantasia, Symphonia is the one that got me truly into the series. I've played all the Western released games, but I have fallen behind on the fan translated games. Sadly, the series hasn't gotten better with time. I feel like Vesperia was the last truly great Tales game and it's kind of gone downhill since then. I had a good enough time with the newer ones (except for Arise, I bounced off that one hard) but the three hit combo of Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia can't be beaten.

Me too, I fell in love the first time I played and could not get enough.
After starting my first NewGame+, I discovered you could play as characters other than Lloyd, and that was when I  really got into the game; it remains my favorite console game to this day.

I once beat it over 30x in a row just to fit every character with an EX Gem MAX in every slot. ?

I would recommend this game to anyone; I would  play this game with anyone who wanted to. I'm considering learning to program on Gamecube  just to make a more definitive version with all the latest content, at 60 FPS with all the lovely features and design of the Gamecube masterpiece.

It's one of the few games I am truly passionate about. ❤️

Since I was a kid, around 1998 with Atari 2600 emulation. My mom had one as a kid and my father surprised her by showing the emulator. Shortly after we found out about SNES and SEGA Genesis emulation, then I got super into GBA and N64 emulation to play Pokemon 3rd gen, and Super Smash Bros.

Thankfully I found out you could switch characters pretty quickly, but I still mostly just played as Lloyd. I did have some fun with Presea, Regal and Kratos/Zelos, but you could tell they put the most effort into making Lloyd the cream of the crop.

Between this and Chrono Cross, you have proven yourself to be an absolute mad lad when you get into a game. xD Rock on!

If you ever do make your definitive version of the game, I better be one of the first people who gets to download it. :V

I main Presea; unless I'm playing with n00bs or kids. Then I'm Refill. ?

I'd love to have you test it if I get the project off the ground; the hardest part will be getting into the programming work; I'm fueled by nothing but an intense, burning passion for gaming and copious amounts of coffee strong enough to knock out a circus strongman.

When I played ToS with some friends I was Presea, another friend was Regal, another was Genis and the last was either Raine or Sheena. Super good times, though it only happened once or twice.

Hey, it's never too late to learn a new skill! Having the drive is an excellent step in the right direction. Coffee helps a ton as well, just make sure your heart doesn't explode.

I've still never met an emulator I didn't like.
Maybe one or two bad experiences here or there, but they were all either my own fault or not far enough in development; imagine my surprise upon discovering Duckstation-qt and PCSX2's qt release. I was astonished to finally be able to run PS2 games at full speed, and play all those obscure PS1 hacks I set on the backshelf for years, particularly a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics hacks.

I was a part of the FFH community for awhile, before being accused of being fake. That was enough to put me on one of two paths; the path of vengeance, or the path of solitude. I chose to walk away.

I think even bad old emulation has it funny moments. To be fair i still have a lot of fondness for all those old emulators like Nesticle, ZNES, KGEN and the goat of my PS2 "Snes Station". Those emulators walk so modern emulators could fly.

It's just like people hating on Simon's Quest, like.
Bruh, you realize without it we might never have had Symphony of the Night?

Yes!!! I think is fine don't if you don't like to play in old emulators. But you gotta respect them man!

Also yes Simon Quest is the ZNES of the Castlevania Series. And it has a banger soundtrack too :3
