Yeah.

But personally I prefer practical looking designs. Like Rex, armaments mounted in a manner that allows for quick deployment. The resulting designs look alien and can sometimes be nerve-wracking to encounter. Adds an unintended fear effect to it as well.

Honestly I like both flavors. Heavy, realistic-looking mecha where you can see moving parts is really cool. But sometimes more cartoonish super-robot anime is fun to watch too.

I quite frankly love all of them. Every single robot, super and real alike with everything inbetween and mech alike has something to love inside them.
Every single one of them are my beautiful babies, and I wish I had a figure of every single mech that was ever made. Games, Manga, Anime exclusive robots, I want to see & experience every single one of them.

I have however, noticed I have a love for the types of Super Robots that are at least a touch sentinent. Either to the complete eldritch horror of Ideon itself which operates on the most primordial element of instinct, or the ones that can move their mouths, either to scream, things like that.

I don't think there's a more terrifying scene in mecha. That's not the protagonist forcing, or controlling Ideon to roar.

This is when anxiety awakens. The very thing you're piloting is alive and it takes no sides.

Somewhere in between, prolly cuz Evangelion was the first ever thing to introduce me to the concept of organic mechs and the whole concept of what really happens when science meets religion in the most horrifying and upsetting way possible

I do prefer grittty mecha like votoms and front mission although I do believe in manga Getter.

Well, Patlabor and Front Mission are dropped in the first post, and those are two of my all time favorites! :D

That’s said, design wise I really, REALLY love more … grounded designs, I guess I’d call them? Tech Romancer did a great job showing a wide range of Mecha styles, and the Wise Duck was always my favorite. It’s clunky and little more than a mobile weapons platform with a booster. Love it. <3 I also really, REALLY loved the Little John in Ring of Red and Metal Gear Rex.

I like everything as long as they're mechlike I guess, but I do lean a bit toward mechs that looks fantastical in design compared to the grounded and more realistic looking ones cause gigantic humanoid mechs are prolly something I'll never encounter in the real lifetime, maybe even the entire history of the universe. Something like Dunbine, Escaflowne, the Masoukishins and Epica Stella mechs that also operates on magical things alongside the sci-fi ones.

I like the more gritty and realistic ones.

Even if Mechs are usually kind of terrible military idea, I like the idea of them on the battlefield. And since Mech and War usually goes together, I like to have them more believable.
