Hot takes

WRONG SIDE OF THE TRACKS ISN'T HARD YOU HEAR ME? ITS NOT FOLLOWING THE DAMN TRAIN IS EASY EASY!!!!!!
I agree. I think most people find it difficult mainly because they drive the bike too close to the train and get choked up by the train's hitbox.

This video has an autistic deep dive regarding that specific mission, explaining numerous technical details of it, if you're interested

GTA driving mechanic always had some jank. The mission itself is quite cool, it just was a lil bit ambitious for the engine.

People only dislike Sonic CD's US soundtrack due to the boss theme
That's not a hot take at all, that's just facts. Most people only ever bring up that or Sonic Boom and people widely consider the latter to be better than JP's opening theme

Anyway mine is that Belmont's Revenge is a good game and that Portrait of Ruin has the most boring Castlevania soundtrack in the franchise. I've listened to it all and the amount of stuff I like can be counted on one hand. My other hot take is that the X68000 ost is better than most of the arranges for Chronicles and that the best version of Tower of Dolls is a fan remix by IC KaZe

GTA driving is arcadey , mafia handles cars way more realistic way.

I don't think the mission was a little bit ambitious it works well with the physics provided its either people can't play for shit or get too close to the train.

Yup just a skill issue that's all there is about it.

i too, apparently have a take of the hot variety; as i learned from chatting with strategist and lee kanker.
Arkanoid is the best nes game.

I prefer Mario’s design with red pants, rather than blue (and Luigi’s with green).

I know it changed a billion years ago and it’s not something I lose sleep over, I just think it pops better.

huh. i didn't notice that the colors were swapped. the red does pop out more like this.

I think you forgot the multiple uses of the R-word and the use of an old-timey slur for Black people. Working Designs wasn't exactly known for having respect for minorities, especially Black people. And note that this wasn't even the only game where they explicitly or implicitly insulted Black people; they loved to sneak that in where they could.
Working Designs were consistently wilding every translation. I'd play some of those games if the translations weren't so dogpiss lol.

Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal is the worst out of the original 4 on PS2
It feels like its constantly stuck between wanting to fully transition to being a TPS but is being marred by also trying to do the bare minimum to count as a platformer.
The use of the multiplayer maps in single player is too obvious, the multiple routes in every stage are too short and a lot of the weapons feel incredibly weak

Ratchet: Deadlocked does everything 3 wanted to do way better.

You know what? I agree, it's more cohesive with his red theme and cap.

I legit have many Mandela Effects in my life regarding Mario because I always double take to see that he got blue pants instead of Red.

I feel that Melee's blue alt is referencing it a bit.

I'm legitimately wondering why they swapped it in SMB. Because of palette limitation?

I don't know if it's a hot take but Classic Sonic is the better design of the two (and yes, even if it technically didn't exist until Generations and that Adventure's original design was close to Classic except with the green eyes as well as how his Smash Bros 4/Ultimate and Unleashed/Colours onwards design is a bit closer to classic compared to what 06 tried).

Although I dislike the design of Classic in Generations/Forces because they wanted to fuse JP and US Sonic in the weirdest way.

I will never not be annoyed that they removed Fire Mario in Smash Ultimate and replaced it with plantation owner Mario.
Maker Mario is fine though.

I seem to recall that the blue Mario alt in Melee is a reference to the artwork of Wrecking Crew or some Game and Watch game.

Roflmao!

While I understand that Smash needs to represent the character's most modern iteration (I legit wished Smash 4 had Skyward Sword Link instead of lazily recycling his Twilight Princess appearance) I agree.

Limiting a skin/palette to 8 is bad... We've lost Wario's outfits because they couldn't put more of 4 of each of his designs.

Maker Mario is fine though.
I can live without USA Flag Mario personally (a flag design works better on a flag imo).

Here's a video for it:

I think it's the promo art of Mario Bros.

im gonna say it cause SOMEONE has to...

Sonic 06 was a genuinely good game and i still enjoy it to this day

It’s an awful pile of shit, and I love it.
i remember first playing it cause my now deceased nana bought me it (not knowing it was a bad game) and i remember bawling my eyes out for 10 minutes straight cause i got stuck on the first level. and i STILL play it to this day

While I can understand that people can find enjoyment I also need to give Sonic fans a reality check about several things:

  1. Even if X-treme came out it would've been obliterated by Mario 64 (and even Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon). Even then players wanted more mature games than yet another mascot platformer. Maybe Sega should've focused on a new IP instead.
  2. Even if 2006 was delayed for the next year it would've been mediocre. Yes, even a polished turd is still a turd at the end of the day. The level design is the only redeeming thing about it. It would've obviously been less infamous if it weren't for the excruciatingly long loading times, the framerate taking a deep dive when too many things are happening on screen, the tediousness of Silver's gameplay and certainly that badly written story with the infamous kiss scene.

PS: Also I still think that the Werehog has no place in Unleashed. They could've made it a fundamentally perfect game (the boost gameplay is much better for speed platforming than the Adventure style which is too close to a normal platformer with a Sonic skin slapped on it). Even the Wisps and 2.5D sections in Colours are fine.

I’ve been playing Adventure 2 today (first playthrough ever) and I can’t really stand it. I’d much rather play 06 because at least I get to control Sonic and not make my tinnitus worse.

i completely understand where you are coming from but you have to understand that sonic fans (like me) are complete autistic buffoons and anything sonic is amazing to us

i played sonic adventure 2 after 06 and i generally liked it, sure it was alittle clunky but so was 06 and i still had enjoyment in it

Honestly as jank as the first Adventure was I think that at least this was a fully fledged RPG-esque spinoff that tried to give a hub and upgrades.

I don't get why Adventure 2 reintroduced upgrading your character since 80% of these items are mandatory to advance in the game (unless you're using glitches) like the drill claws for Knuckles, the Jet Boosters for Tails/Eggman and the bounce bracelet for Sonic and fire one for both him and Shadow.

Yes, you can play previous levels with those upgrades to help you to skip some areas (even SA1 had some rare light dash sections meant for replayability) but only the Mystic Melody is the real "post-game upgrade" for your characters regarding many missions (especially the missing Chao ones).

If they removed hub then the whole exploration aspect is useless aside from side missions. Thankfully Heroes finally included lightspeed dash for Sonic and Shadow and the level up system is only for your character's power.

PS: yeah, unleashed did that back but they got hubs. Colours had the excuse to have Wisps to unlock so you could replay stages with them in mind.

I played Adventure 1 a few months ago and I like it a lot more, though I don’t feel either of them really reach the legendary status people give them.
Then again, I didn’t grow up on them. I was a late bloomer with Sonic and the first one I didn’t play at a friends house as a kid and actually bought myself was Generations in like 2012.

My favorites so far are Generations, Mania and 3.

Kojima huffs his own farts.
As someone who loves Kojima, you're right.

I feel like Kojima's biggest issue is he needs someone to step in and tell him no on certain things

Recently I was reading over the translated MGS2 Design Document and was immediately met with this on the first page.

Kojima's always been weird and out there and had very pretentious ideas. I feel like the only difference is now he's head of his own studio and nobody's around to shoot down his weirder ideas.

I fucking hate that every AAA or AA game nowadays shares the same type of camera.
What happened to games with isometric cameras or fixed cameras? Nowadays almost every video game camera is controlled with the right analog stick and controls the same. Where's the variety?

This is actually the only reason I've emulated the Switch; someone close to me has cerebral palsy, and can't really use analog stick camera movement. We emulate anything they might want to try to see if the camera is manageable or not, but they rarely are.
