Hot takes

Crash Boom Bang is the worst party game, bc it has only like 7 actual minigames, the rest are reskins, and AI is pretty unfair and you have to beat each minigame/variation like thrice to beat the game

I liked PBB but I don't see how you could compare a 3D to a 2D game.
I know their different style of games, but Mania didn't have enough creativity behind it. The game is fine, but suffers from Memberberries syndrome. Not enough original levels. Though that wasn't the devs fault, and more so SEGA forcing them to fill half of the game with classic levels. When the game needed way more original levels.
Also I wish Penny's momentum was easier to carry because I feel like you're easily losing speed in straight lines. Spamming techs just to keep the momentum isn't the best game design. Perhaps they should've implemented the drop dash in that game.
This more of a YMMV, but I can see where you're coming from. I got used to it early enough for me not to be an issue. The only thing I really don't like about PBB, are those quick time mini games after finishing a level. They're really unnecessary and don't add much to the game. You can remove those, and nothing would be lost. Hopefully a sequel or spiritual successor can fix that.

Everyone has their own definition of "mid", but my definitions is that the game is a good 6 or 7 out of 10. Usually the latter. As long as there is actual effort put in, and the designer makes significant improvements, I can live with that. Not every game needs to be some big budget, all or nothing, "masterpiece". Nor do I need constant critical darlings. So called "mid games" were a dime a dozen just before the middle of 7th generation. No one complained about them back then, and we can always use more 7/10 type games. It's why I praise games like Rushing Beat X, Gungrave GORE (after the updates in 2023), and Lost Soul Aside.

Point being: I will take a "mid" game any day of the week over a bad game, a bad game that is ambitious, or bad and boring on all fronts. A bad game is only entertaining, if you didn't have to pay it for much, got it for free, or you're a LPer/streamer/game reviewer/YouTuber, etc. If you're paying more than $5 for a bad game, then you might as well flush money down the toilet for the same effect, but with way less effort. Ain't no one got time for a bad game at high prices in this economy.

Not much of a hot take given the ratings of this game are really low. I forgot this game even existed.

Sorry but that's a weird argument when it's an anniversary game like Sonic Generations (which I consider better than most Modern 3D Sonic games around).

Also even the reused Zone's second Acts were original enough to be almost like an entirely new zone (albeit reusing the same theme/music).

The original zones (aside from Titanic Monarch because it's a bit tedious) quality are already counterbalancing the reused one in term of quality so that excuses the lack of original ones already.

I'd argue that it was Sonic Forces that overdid with the "memberberries" without quality behind them (although the Death Egg levels were probably some of the better in the game because the Capital City and the levels in the finale of the game were kinda meh). Only Sunset Heights was interesting as an original level.

I'd argue that DKC Returns was also a rather big memberberries game with many reused themes (like the Factory or the Mines) and reused many OSTs from the SNES classics yet was still good because the game still had originality.

PS: Even Frontiers' cyberspace levels were overusing Generations' assets yet people liked those levels (well, most of them) and I think I even prefer those visually over the Unreal Engine asset flip looking Open Zone areas.

Penny's Big Breakaway tried to do it like Kirby yet I feel that they missed the point of end level mini games. Kirby had perfect ones that went with the flow whereas the Jet Set Radio combo for PBB broke the pace. They should've just added a score at the end and that's it.

I think that fundamentally Spark 3 is a better 3D Sonic inspired game.

Yeah, but that was at least the point with Generations. I didn't need it a second time with Mania, or the fact that SEGA stifled actual creativity for more nostalgia that really wasn't needed in the first place. The team did their best, don't get me wrong, but it hurt the overall game for me, and why I don't re-visit it.

Yet I had more fun with Forces somewhat, and the aspects of making your own OC.

That was Returns least of its problems. The forced motion controls made platforming so much worse. I know the 3DS and Switch versions exists now, but with Tropical Freeze being better in every single aspect and superior to even the SNES trilogy, I have even less reasons to play Returns ever again. No matter the platform, but certainly will take the 3DS or Switch versions any day over the Wii original.

Frontier I didn't like in general, but mainly the forced "side quests/mini games" for padding really pissed me off, and made quit the game. I looked at the rest through YouTube. Mania is a better game than Frontiers, but that's all you will get from me.

The original creator of something can be just as likely to ruin what made their work good or interesting as a person or business looking to make a crappy or unfaithful adaptation.

I also think it's ok to get something out of said work that the original creator never intended. The original creator's intent/vision is important, but shouldn't be the be all end all of what a work can be or what it can mean.

Ren and Stimpy Adult Cartoon Party, Legends of Korra, and the Tenchi Muyo OVAs 3 and afterward. All of them fucked majorily or in some royal capacity of "who was asking for this?".

Greed and envy shouldnt be considered sins

While I understand the issue with how Mania reused some of the same levels as Generations (although GHZ and CPZ in both are better in Mania) it was still a good Classic 2D game without the screen crunch of the Advance games nor the boost from the DS ones.

Sure original levels are nice but it doesn't matter if they don't have a good level design (like how Advance 3 suffers from many issues) because it's what matters the most.

The OC was probably a good idea on paper yet like many of Sonic's gimmicks they're not well executed. Forces is the pure definition of "press boost to win" with short levels and almost no challenge (even Colours had a bit more of it).

Tropical Freeze is a good improvement yet I still prefer the level design of most of the Returns level and I feel like TF with the islands didn't have as many good varied environments as Returns. Also the underwater levels weren't that great imo.

I entirely disagree about TF being better than the SNES Trilogy (even the unpopular Dixie Kong's Double Trouble) because Diddy Kong's Quest is still the summit of the franchise and I think Rare had more variety and creativity than Retro Studio.

Frontiers should've had a more intricate level design for the Open Zones that aren't floating platforms... I think that cyberspace levels being nostalgic is admitting they didn't trust that new gameplay enough to remove the boost levels.

I found most of the Advance games better than Mania. Same with the first Rush and Color DS (which is Sonic Rush 3, but much easier for the right reasons).

Yes, but Colors Wii tended to drag and over rely on the Wisp powers to get by.

I respect DKC games on SNES, but I found the Snowmads and their boss fights better and way more entertaining. Though I really don't care for DKC3 much at all. It's fine, but really lacking compared to the first two games, and is only marginally better than Returns. The level design in TF is peak for me, and is even better than DKC2's levels.

Pretty much why I lost interests.

Foot Locker always sucked and I consider it the worst shoe store ever in existence. I wish they went out of business instead of Payless. At least places like Citi Trends and Wal-Mart have shoes at affordable prices.

It is perfectly ok to be hostile towards your enemies — pretending that they aren't massive drags or acting all sweet and understanding around them doesn't make you the bigger person, it just makes you a willing victim.

Or a cunning villain, if you're being sweet to your enemies in order to enact your revenge down the line >:D

Visual novels are for loser
I am not into the genre, but that's really u necessary. I don't mock people for genres I don't enjoy or not interested in. Let's be actual adults here, and not smart mouth, know nothing, teens, kids, or adult acting like they're still kids or teenagers.

I have no need to see the new Michael Jackson movie. I still love his music and everything, but I really don't see the point of another adaption, when the tv movies already exist.

I don't want that thread derailing into name-calling and other disrespectful things... (or else it would be locked and for a good reason).

There's a difference between having a "spicy" opinion and calling fans of something you aren't "losers".

But thank you for acknowledging it because this forum should be a place of respect.

That's true
My apologies

Thank you Avalanche! I love it when liars like Crowbcat get called out on their bullshit. Not the first time, and won't be the last. Pat and Woolie called out his bullshit back in 2023.

I love this part in Ghoulif's defense of the new Resident Evil (2026) film. I got it all time stamped.

Final Fantasy XIV isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The new player experience is smelly, the server system is clunkier than other MMOs, you can’t move while casting, and, from what my FFXIV-addicted friends have said, the game needs 100 hours before it gets good.
