Hot takes

Ohhhhh, I've got a LOOOOOOOT of hot takes, that's for sure.

I'll start off with a pretty tepid one, though:
The FGC (fighting game community) has completely RUINED ALL fighting games.
-I have had a lot of beef with the FGC (and especially the subhumans over at SRK (shoryuuken) for nearly 20 years now. Their idea of "competitive" fighters has utterly ruined fighting games because now all developers and publishers think that all people want are competitive fighters. The last truly FUN fg I've played was Melty Blood Act Cadenza verB (I don't like Current Code, and I especially don't like Type Lumina). Tekken is a tryhard's dream because once you've gotten your opponent in the air, it's game over because juggling until death is the norm in Tekken.

I could probably rant for literal days about how much I despise the FGC with how they've ruined fighting games forever.

Absolutely true.

I like the FGC for keeping games alive and bringing some back like Virtua Fighter. What I don't like is the elitism when it comes to online matches. I do like how they make tutorial videos though. I don't like how they complain when they complain about fighters going in a different direction like with Marvel. We need to refresh every so often. Otherwise you get people who played the same game for 20+ years air juggling newbies. The newbies quit because they can't get a hit in and the old heads quit because they keep getting paired against newbies. Add that to how the FGC hypes up new fighting games with tons of DLC that has multiple packs released every year that not everyone can afford, on top of forcing the game to constantly rebalance itself with updates that make it play completely different every single year. Fighting games should be complete and untouched upon release, dammit!

Final Fantasy XIV 1.23b (the last one before ARR) was peak FFXIV, and when Yoshida nuke it, it also nuked any chance of we getting anything that is not boiled down MMORPG that tries to be WoW.

Also, MGSV is ass, the only good thing are the memes. But this is not a hot take, it is a reality.

Oh I started to hate Tekken after 4, lol. Even when I learned 7, I still didn't like it.
But here's the thing: even the good Tekken games work this way.

I only go for SRK to look up fighting game stuff in order to learn them, honestly.
I never considered myself to be a FGC member, and five minutes on the 3rd Strike Fightcade chat are enough for you to understand why, lol.

Call of Duty's regenerating health and overall gameplay ("running" speed being more slow than how regular humans walk, not even dismemberment like SoF, or even cool guns) were never good, and since DOOM 2016 and DUSK, first person shooters are REALLY evolving now instead of being utter dogshit.
200.gif
That's not even a hot take to say that regenerative health isn't good game design except for Halo (especially Combat Evolved which had a health bar on top of the armour's energy one) but it was more of a regenerative armour which was 100 times better and fit the in-universe lore whereas you cannot recover from ballistic injuries like that in a contemporary setting). Goldeneye and Perfect Dark having a set pool of life for the entire level but with bulletproof vests to make you able to take a bit more bullets was better in game design and with realism.

On the other hand back in the late 90's the FPS genre would've gotten stale if it weren't for Unreal, Goldeneye, Half-Life and by a smaller extent Halo because of the wave of Doom-likes and Quake-likes that didn't bring anything new to the table.

In fact I wish the Goldeneye-like genre was the staple for console FPS over the Military Shooting genre since that Medal of Honour, Call of Duty and Battlefield overtook the genre...

Whoever though only two guns was good for the sake of "Realism" also needs a swift slap with a wet leather glove
I still think that two weapons in Halo actually made sense in a game design way: having the dilemma to keep your current weapon or change it for the situation to adapt to it.

On the other hand it was made with console FPS in mind (despite that Perfect Dark, Bioshock and other games had the "Weapon Wheel" to compensate for it) so they thought that players could only handle two when you could easily bind all 4 weapons to the D-pad on the Xbox or PS...

Game design and realism can be overarching but I wish they could make something that makes sense in-universe than trying to fit ours.

PS: I absolutely hate the term "videogamey" for anything that is remotely... well, like a video game.

Retro Gaming is good, except when 70% of them have unfair difficulty or one or another has an unnecessarily difficult stage, in this I admit that "modern" games (except the ones that are difficult on purpose like Dark Souls) are better.

I dunno if it's correlated to socially inept people (then again it may just be a coincidence) but I feel like some fields are more prone to have bullies (which are probably people who got bullied previously but then again it's hypothetical) that often abuse their power when they get a bit of fame, the art was just the way they got popularity.

I heard that the art field, like the theatre or even acting one, is a cruel place that isn't gentle towards people that cannot stand for themselves.

I often feel like some really talented people just quit because of others when they had a great potential. A big shame if you'd ask.
Hot Take!

You described the god complex, and it is often comes from any one who are not used to self reflection and acceptance of critique, and evolution towards working on themselves.

Folks who are spoon fed status (borne in to success), and means / managers and supervisors, are often the biggest perpetrators here. (not including good manages, who work with their staff, rather then run a dictatorship)

The other side of that is the cult of personality, people identifying with their likes and the person they worship / a fan of, and any critique towards that is then seen as a critique on their choice and their identity, as they may not have developed one, and only see the group they are part of as their identity, which has only gotten worse with so called internet and social media culture.

I mean hot take ssssssssss >_>

I remember something similar called "main character syndrome" or something like that.

Social media have truly amplified it.

Another simple food related one, but I think the best snack/chip flavor is the simple plain salted kind. A long of snack flavors (aside from spicy ones, funny enough) I tend to find a bit strong and overpowering.

NES and Sega Genesis both have giant libraries of games that will break you. lol

Agree, we don't call nonsensical stuff "Cartoony"

Agreed, i guess i am an old head, which is why i stick the psychological context. For me, "main character" just makes it feel as if we are written in by an author, and the world is fiction.

Hmmm, who seems to have the most plot amour int he world then?

psst. do not geed in to this idea, Steven King is always watching, and he will send int he Dark Tower boys at any time >_>;;

ooooooh! not just any plain salted flavor, home made potato chips which are double fried!

Oh my gooooooood! i used to eat this a lot at my friends house, his mum used to make these instead of home fries / Chunky chips (which i also loved) with hot dogs, burgers (home burgers are best) and other things. At the end of the week, they hit the spot! And where super statisfying crunch.

She used to make them at the end of the week, as we all had a study group we used to take part in.

My friend was proud of those chips ad the whole block loved them!

Oh man, this used to be the start of our week end, comatose the next morning, but we pushed though it so we could game like crazy since the work was one on the week days and was their only rule from our parents.

Good times

Suspension of disbelief isn't a thing?

I love some of them but in the same time I wanna experience the vanilla game once.

All carbonated drinks are overrated and all fizzy drinks taste better newly flat.

This has probably been said before in this thread but I absolutely hate what they did with DBS, such a shit show and a complete eradication of the true characters that the Z fighters are. The best example of this is Goku, man oh man how I hate how they made goku such a stupid kid-like person, like yeah he is goofy but not to the degree they make him out to be, In Z he had a lot of serious moments where he was smart and not just battle smart like they make him out to be in Super.

It's that and also the fact that I fully believe that One Piece is not a good anime, not necessarily for the content it has (as I have no doubt that it is good), but just the mere fact of its length and pace. There should be NO reason that One Piece is as long as it is, and just that fact alone makes me dislike the One Piece anime a whole lot more than it really should be.

Also, raisins are a banger snack, don't care what anyone says.

Have you tried fried raisins in rice before? It’s quite common here as a side.
Agreed with the anime takes.

Now, why would anyone go ahead and fry raisins? I have never heard of anyone doing that before, but I really want to try it now.
It’s a super fun way to eat it. Obviously it goes without saying you should be into rice first, because it’s meant as a topping. You want to caramelize some onions first then add the raisins. It’s meant to be cooked slowly. Naturally, the final products needs to be sweet and savory. It’s a super common traditional rice topping here. I like it more than cashews personally.

Also DBS was probably never gonna be good. Even when it got better animation directors, it was likely gonna keep the same old habits.
One piece also will likely never drop the one manga chapter per episode format which is just agonizing to sit through.
Gintama doesn’t do this at all despite being basically almost half the length of the one piece anime.
