Hot takes

I actually love using RetroArch but I did spent like, 3 days setting it up to behave exactly as I wanted. It definitely asks way too much of someone who just wants to play a game but for people like me, it's an amazing frontend.

Sometimes yeah. A lot don't seem to want to acknowledge that being indie doesn't exclude you from corruption or corrupt practices, it's just less likely to happen
Honestly, unless the dev itself has put abusive DRMs or made an update so you couldn't play mods or are locked out of content there's no excuses.

Some people would tell that it's morally correct to do such if the dev is a bad person online but even then I don't think that pirating Minecraft because of Markus Person is an excuse.

On the other hand pirating Minecraft because of Microsoft's stinginess can be understandable.

Nintendo 3DS is one the worst handheld console ever.

Even worse that the Game Gear, Atari Lynx, Virtual Boy and even the Game.Com?

I cannot agree with you on that, especially not with the DS backward compatibility.

Forgot to add a word.

I don't think it's a hot take at all. I've always preferred using separate emulators because I'm used to just dragging and dropping anyways.

But if you really wanted, you can use Steam to add and organize emulators, as well as adding individual games the same way you'd do on a steamdeck. Steam Rom Manager slightly automates this process, but I find it a bit confusing to set up at first.

Same.

Even multi emulators can be tricky to use like Mednafen.

Mednafen is still way easier to use than RetroArch, especially with Mednaffe GUI.

I will never understand people that enjoy playing games that makes them frustrated/angry/annoyed/stressed out. Looking at you Mega Man series, Ghost N Goblins, Souls, etc... I steer clear from them. If you enjoy eating, you wouldn't be putting live crabs into your mouth.

the backwards compatibility is not good, the 3ds' native resolution isn't an exact multiple of the ds' so the games look like a blurry mess unless you play them letterboxed

The 3D s%$t and all those awful games, for me it's many steps backward compared to the DS.

I like the stereoscopic 3D, I wish it would come back. Stereo3D is awesome its so immersive. Metroid Samus Returns on 3DS pulled it off so well.
I don't like VR very much, its too much of a pain to deal with.

Pokemon mid af. I still play it tho.
If you look at it from a certain angle pokemon is animal abuse , you catch these animal looking creatures force them to fight for you in a battle that will end in death of one of the 2 pokemons just so you can achieve more power and become a legendary pokemon hunter.

I'm fine if it's hard, I don't like it if it's unfair.

Its a challenge mate , if a game doesn't punish me for doing mistakes in a way that is harsh but fair it feels too easy.

Its like sudden strike an RTS where you can't train soldiers all you get is all you have play carefully and plan out well executed maneuvers your casualties will be low , do too many mistakes and your entire infantry force will dissipate within seconds.

Easy games get boring fast and hard difficulty makes for a more memorable experience.

I'd argue that the challenge is where the satisfaction comes from.

Sorry but this kind of analysis is getting old (and it's annoying when people repeat that same rhetoric).

The difference is that in that franchise's universe pokémons are actually thriving from fighting since they're not like normal animals. Also they don't die, even a powerful attack only knocks them out.

It's kinda argue that some games are hard not because of the challenge but because they're badly balanced.

Spelunker on the NES or Superman 64 are both hard games but not in the good way.

This is true, you literally can't kill anyone in Pokemon universe, in fact the only way take anyone's life out is to petrify them to stone.

yes, they aren't even allowed to die, either getting revived again and again to serve in the never ending battles or having their very ghosts captured....!!! truly a fate worse than death

I thought they died well I'm not into pokemon.

I said a challenge a difficulty that puts your knowledge to test it can be brutal sometimes and a bit forgiving at other times I'm not saying badly balanced that's something else.

An example of good high difficulty I could think of is call of duty veteran difficulty its beatable but requires careful planning and punishes reckless play like not taking cover or downplaying strength or reach of a grenade.

Another good difficulty example is symphony of frost and flame in WarCraft 3 its beatable but requires patience and well timed attacks and raids throughout the map putting everything the player learned throughout the entire journey of WarCraft 3 into one single final epic showdown.

Another example of good challenge is the HECU marines from half life not only they are absolutely badass but provide an engaging challenge with their unique AI behavior of squad leaders alerting the rest of squad to your presence , throwing grenades to force you out of cover , taking cover themselves when shot and other maneuvers that make use of cover intensive levels giving the player a test to use their knowledge of positioning and level layout to use to defeat the marines combined with the player high movement speed makes for fun encounters with these durable and intimidating enemies.

Another good example of challenging but not absurd are Final Fantasy games where the games (2d mostly) put you early on in a difficult financial position where you have to be wise with how you spend the gils whether you want to invest in equipment or vast amounts of potions , the game scaling is also designed pretty well and accommodates the expected level of the player at that point of the game you won't be too underpowered or too overpowered if you fight a fair amount of battles they can also be extremely punishing for mistakes like when I forgot to equip healing materia on me in cosmo canyon dungeon while being low on potions too ever since that harsh lesson I ensure that I have healing all the time.

Another great example of difficulty is counter strike an easy to pick but difficult to master game with the punishment of dying being harsh compared to arena shooters that were prevalent at the time thus players were more considerate and mindful about how they played leading to a more methodical and intense vibe where a firefight can last 5 seconds but results in a team winning or losing due to lack of any respawn.

There is a line between difficult that its the type of "stupidly difficult" where the game turns from a fun interaction of a set of lines of code and mechanics to a slog that lacks any sort of fun and feels like a chore instead this is my issue with sudden strike vision system it devolves the game from an engaging and fun realistic ww2 RTS into a tedious routine of officers looking through binoculars and a tank shooting 1-2 soldiers every 3-4 minutes.

mario and luigi paper jam is the Third best Mario and Luigi game Am I insane... maybe. It's just such a fun game Yeah maybe part of the toad invasion Era But it is still fun

Also this doesn't really fit in here but I think the pixels movie is not that bad. Yeah It may be a bad Stereotype of gamers But it's So dang funny

Also Team Plasma isn't outed at being no better than Team Rocket or other teams as they're only telling to liberate pokémons only as a way to weaken any opponent?

Either way, the whole "Pokémon is animal abuse" rhetoric is just some Peta-level of basic media analysis that was somehow popular in the mid to late 2000's that was being mocked by the Internet (especially when they seem to care more about virtual creatures than real ones).
