I think RetroArch has it's place and is very useful for just being the centre of your emulation, but I've always disliked how it's annoying it is to change settings per emulator, and I've always preferred using standalone emulators to be able to tweak everything to my liking. But that's just me, I wanna hear your opinions about how I'm wrong and stupid

Incredibly cold take, plenty of people hate Retroarch and tend to use it when they have no choice as it emulates console blind spots like arcades and PC-98
I have some emulation handhelds (Miyoo Mini and Anbernic RG353PS) and having to deal with RetroArch's bullshit and how annoying it is to make saves to a specific emulator, only for it to ignore those saved settings and stretch a Gameboy game to 16:9 or something. It made me irrationally angry

Therein lies the problem, you can count emulators that work on handhelds with your fingers because not everyone can play comfortably on PC. Thus RetroArch is pretty often your only option to play them unless you have something like Steam Deck.

RA's basically only useful to emulate consoles that had no decent emulators like the very retro ones really (PC98 and before).
But how many people like to play those consoles anymore? They aged like milk. ::smirk1
Touhou 1-5, Peret Em Heru, Giten Megami Tensei (when/if that is inevitably translated), Madou Monogatari 1-2-3, Rusty and anything that's been taken a look at by our resident PC-98 foragers (Amelie Doree, ThorHighHeels, Marsh, and Hazel among others) are high key keeping the PC-98 alive lmao

I think most people on here are going to agree with that take, myself included.

RetroArch is great for anyone new to emulation or anyone that's unwilling to invest the time to set up anything better, but in my experience most enthusiasts tend to find it really limiting and annoying.

PC-98 is great if you like very specific genres of games like Visual Novels, JRPGS and really clunky action games, or clunky space shooters.

True!
(or good music that composers properly push the limits of, the Genesis that rarely was)

Like, THIS is from what essentially is a shittier version of the Genesis sound chip, crazy ::thinking

I don’t care for emulation hosts or core hosts. I just use individual emulators. I don’t emulate that many systems in the first place and I tend to prefer multi-console emulators like Delta anyhows.

Maybe its name meant Patience Capacity 98.
I don't think you get my joke...
Anyways, the list is missing games you can play one-handed, games you can take your hands off the keyboard for some time during, games with high resolution still images, and games featuring the fine figure art of Japan that is in no way not tasteful.
