Hideo's creativity

And as expected, this thread descended into childish insults.

Typical.

But of course, every good story needs a villain. Which one of us is the villain is a matter of perspective.

You and valosagutas blatantly broke the rules of this fine place by insulting each other, so I object to it being a "matter of perspective".

His USB Stick probably has over 20 hours of cutscenes and plans for his next “strand-type game”.

Ah well you know, you reap what you sow and what I reaped was my first warning on the forum which is pretty nice. I see that as a nice win in my book.

And before you ask, nope I'm not looking to get banned. It just so happened that this particular user looked like a jackass with his giant block of text about a bunch of bullshit so I tried to push some buttons to see where it leads.

No hard feelings to that guy btw, I didn't even read most of what he said.

If you want to push people's buttons, please go somewhere else.

Didn't that happen already in Peace Walker?

With the Monster Hunter missions?

I mean technically they are not dinosaurs, but close enough, not that I wouldn't be opposed to it happening again.
You're definitely right, but the real deal would be a REAL dinosaur. Hopefully we can have a collaboration with Capcom. The release of Dino Gear Crisis could be heaps of fun.

Regina would also be the perfect fan service to 90s fans.

I think so too, the 'insane but still talented auteur' type creative guy. I think Kojima is probably more out there than George Lucas was (he was just more inexperienced I think) but they're still similar.

Similar indeed, that's why I drew the comparison.

To me MGS 2 was the begging of the problem. It was so big with his story that turned the main game into a slog.
I just remember being bored to death by the hours of codec calls that added tons of flavour, but almost killed my enjoyment of the game.

Things got turned down in MGS 3 and boy I what a blast it was. To me you can clearly see when other members of his staff had the strength to tone down Kojima's ideas down and make a simpler story.

The wheel turned again with MGS 4, which was, at least to me, almost unplayable.

Did you have a similar experience? I'm curious.

p.s.
just read the rest of the thread:

I will reply to valosagutas properly when I get the chance, but I do wonder, for anyone here, do any of Kojima's games rank amongst your favourite games ever?

Even though there's such a variety of games out there, if someone were to say to me "You can only play one game for the rest of your life", I would choose Metal Gear Solid. And if they said "You can only play two", I'd probably choose MGS and MGS2: SoL

I never played any of his games, so no.

I can agree. MGS2 is a different kind of complicated compared to 4 at least. 2s mostly a coherent story outside of the meta/ambiguity stuff (did Raiden really katana fight the US President on top of the Jefferson Memorial?) going on in it while 4 is just too much plot and insanity going on. 2 definitely did start the 'subversive' shtick that Kojima really started leaning on, though, like in MGS4 where the whole thing feels like he hates Snake, and anyone who likes Snake too. And nanomachines, a lot of nanomachines to retcon away anything even vaguely supernatural the series had.

MGS3 is one of my favourite games of all time, for sure. It's the perfect mix of Kojima insanity with some actual storytelling subtlety.

I have a Playstation magazine tucked away somewhere with a 2 page interview with Kojima from before MGS2 came out where he talks about the sheer volume of death threats he got to make another game and to bring back Snake. I think there's a part of him which has hated the series from then onwards.
Still, MGS2 is such an accomplishment. I'm awestruck that people could even band together and make something as good as it is.

I agree on all other points

I hadn't played a Kojima game since....The Twin Snakes for Gamecube? Which was just a redo of the first game but on Gamecube. (Great version btw, but PS1 is still awesome.)

Other than that I honestly say that this is a much more rational way to continue your business/legacy after you die than how Walt Disney did.

He really thought freezing your brain was a better and more cost-effective/efficient way to save your ideas for people.

Since I put gameplay above story I'd say that you'd better watch cinematics on Youtube if you want to know the story in his games.

Death Stranding cannot capture what made the original Metal Gear Solid good and the rest of the series, while being good, cannot have the revolutionary aspect of it...
