Hidden Gems!

I remember a game with maids having guns.

Simple 2000 Series Vol. 105: The Maid Fuku to Kikanjyuu (or in English, The Maid Uniform and the Machine Gun)

My favorites are:
• Operation Darkness
• Spectral Force 3
• Tenchu Z
• Otomedius Excellent
• Deathsmiles
• Record of Agarest War
• Eternal Sonata
• Civilization Revolution

Project Sylpheed. Spaceship shooter in style of Macross with the plot from Gundam SEED. Missile barrages EVERYWHERE. Can be difficult and has some framerate issues (particularly on the final boss) but if you emulate it's not an issue.

I remember buying this real cheap new for our now defunct XBox 360 and I really want to play it. The thing about this game is that most of the other versions have technical issues and most of the fans agree the 360 version is the most stable one and the most recommended if you want to play it.

The graphics looked low tech but it was so surreal. So many weird and funny things amidst the horror, it was really amazing. Most people miss the quirks since they focus on the main game but part of the fascination was examining the strange details in the background. For example, you check into this empty hotel owned by a weird granny and the hotel is huge but completely empty. It's pretty creepy but completely explorable. I tried to explore as much of it as I could even though it wasn't part of the main game but the fact that it's there made me suspect maybe there's some kind of hidden horror in it.

Every house had a window that you can peep into it. You would see a FPV of the house's interior and there are a ton of windows to peek in. 99% of the time, all you'd see is an empty...almost creepy room. But one time, I did see something...and it was that one view that helped me figure out who the culprit was before the game revealed it. It was just blind luck and I'm amazed I just stumbled into it by looking into the right window and at the right time.

Late at night if you go into the town, monsters will appear in the road. One of them was a giant terrifying monster dog with huge red eyes that can destroy you and your car and it seems to be the most powerful thing in the whole game. I actually went hunting at night just to kill that dog and i succeeded after several attempts. And...this isn't even part of the main game. It's optional and just another hidden quirk of the game that you could explore if you choose to.

This isn't a port of the Saturn version. It's a remix with no slowdown, the versus mode can admit 12 characters instead of 4, new remix mechanics...new difficulty...I really prefer this over the original Saturn one. One of the best beat-em-ups with fighting game mechanics. Best thing about this game, everything you encounter is playable in versus mode. It's funny creating a match where the townspeople goes against the final boss.

This game Is really infamous for its non functional pc port but is a super fun game otherwise. It’s like a weird man’s version of silent hill, I personally love it.

While I havent finished it, the parts that I have played were really awesome. It feels like your in an anime if that makes any sense. Grand wars but also spectable bosses.
Came here to mention N3: Nighty-Nine Nights as well as Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon and Silent Hill: Downpour.

All stellar games trapped on the console as exclusives

Maybe Densetsu no Starfy? Just a guess though.
Thats kind of an interesting story because (and correct me if im wrong) we really only had the latest game available officially in english until a recent re-release. I remember playing the former at a demo kiosk at target as a kid although that was for the DS. I think Starfy had some trophies in the Smash games as well.

Oh, I'm not sure but it could be possible the game got a re-release like you mentioned.

kinda hard to choose ngl, because i feel like you'll find discussion of almost all of the massive amount of great games on the GBA, from sonic advance (though its rather controversial...) to almost all of its RPGs, etc.

One I see very little discussion of is Phantasy Star Collection. I love the original PS games, but sadly I don't see much discussion of them in general. And well, they're on the GBA, and thus are some of the best RPGs available on the system.

There are also primitive Celeste games available. There's the original pico-8 classic Celeste, but also a fan made Celeste 2. TMK someone's trying to port the full game to the GBA too, though that'll certainly take a bit and won't really match the original in form. I played classic, it's similar formula and thus a good time.

There's also fullmetal alchemist RPGs but I've not played'em yet so no comment.

Ao No Tengai/Oriental Blue is a Japan only jrpg with a decent English translation. It's sort of free roaming with inspiration from the SaGa series. It's set in a fairly neat setting inspired by various Asian mythologies.
