Being more of a PC person, Fire Emblem has totally eluded me. I've played various other strategy & tactics games that are native to my "home platform," but never FE (or Advance Wars, and only ever the slightest bit of Disgaea). I'd like to fix that this year.
but WOW, there are too many of these games! from the outside it's hard to get a grip on what's a sequel to what, what's the start of a "new generation," and what's a freaks-only followup, and this golden age of fan translations means I can't even rule out the NES+SNES games. So I'd like to call on The Forums for advice.
Bare minimum, I would like something I can comfortably emulate on my 15 year old processor and/or a PlayStation Vita (my handheld of choice). I know this rules out the 3DS and Switch games, but I'm fine with that as I'm not interested in the social link type stuff (I can just look up pictures of Dimitri in my own time, anyways). GameCube will work just fine, though. I'm aware some of these games have an Xcom-ish setup where you churn through characters via permadeath, something I'm totally cool with. But are there games where this isn't true? Will I "be fine" if I just jump into Thracia 776 or whatever? I can deal with a learning curve as long as I'm given space to figure out the basics. But also, are the GBA games better? Are these stupid questions to ask about a Nintendo game?
Any input appreciated!!
