Once again maybe it's cause I'm back and trying to figure out what to play for now (either Ocarina of Time or Kingdom hearts) but I tend to have this feeling where I boot up the game and just end up staring at my screen for a minute or even start playing and 20 - 30 min in I lose interest and just put my controller down and close it but what mostly happens is I find myself going to play games on my PlayStation.

I've thought about separating and scheduling my games like rn I'm playing Yakuza 0 on PlayStation and maybe after I finish it that's when I'll be able to play the games I've longed to play for a while but for now I really doubt I'll be able to play them and enjoy them to the max while hopping games or I'm overthinking it? (I'm still addicted to pokemon and rn I'm currently playing Pokemon Gold and about to start getting the 8 badges in Kanto)

Either way that's what I had in my mind rn and would like to hear your opinions.

Bless up and have a great one

Hmm. Sometimes I get bored so hard, until I have fun in a certain degree by continuing to increase my "fun level" until a certain threshold I cannot feel fun. It's like until then my body gets used to feeling so bored and bad it start think it's so normal as if it's how it should be. Then I have to force myself to have fun, not work, so I can start to have fun even if it means forcing myself to play some games.

However, also no reason to force yourself if you really don't wanna play a game. Sometimes I switch between playing many games every half hour until I finally settle into one game to hook up and actually start to have fun. But then when I hook up with one particular game, I cannot enjoy playing other games until I finish it.

Might as well try do this tbh

Sounds to me like you're not in the headspace for videogames at the moment. Might be a good time to try new things? Get out of your comfort zone, you know?

To ramble a bit, since I've got a headache - I think it's easy to fall back into unintentionally restrictive habits we've gotten used to when we're trying to entertain ourselves. "I like movies and I've got nothing better to do - I'll watch a movie!" and so on.
Hell, for some people their hobbies and habits can even become their whole identity! Whether we like it or not, every now and then our brains want variation and new input.

It's completely normal to take a break from your hobbies and to check out or do other things for a while - the enjoyment does usually return after some time away. Or at least it does for me.

That's really a wise perspective that I can even scientifically explain!!!

Long story short and put it simply: As particular neurons are overly used due to a constant cycle of being triggered the more they lose their sensitivity to be able to pick up and transmit to trigger nearby neurons. This is why, as you tire your particular neurons, the less you will be able to use them. For example studying law all day without even distracting yourself will make your brain cannot work eventually, so because of it your brain cannot learn anything and then you will find yourself in a state you can't even understand it. In such a state if I had asked your name you may have had to think it for a long time. This is when the brain makes certain parts of it sleep despite you are awake due to extreme tiredness of doing the same over a long time. It also make brain skip time because you won't be aware you were sleeping in your wake state. This is also when sometimes your memory cannot record information so don't be surprised some stuff happened while you were tired that you cannot remember. People may tell you your answer didn't make sense as you clearly misunderstood it, you may also did something that didn't make sense either (putting your wallet into the refrigerator). This happens when brain try to use certain neurons but it can't so the "task order" bounced from neurons brain couldn't trigger to unrelated neurons that was mistakenly triggered. When this happens it effect the way you think and make decision in irrelevant way. So for example, when brain cannot think to put the wallet in its right place, if you were thinking about the refrigerator because you were hungry, you may find yourself automatically putting your wallet into the refrigerator lol. Your current ideas depends on which neurons are active so they can be triggered.

Letting your brain tired is really dangerous, can lead you to cannot remember, cannot understand what's happening which leads to misunderstanding, and will make you slower. It does endanger your life in a way being careless and losing a sense of carefulness can lead to fatal accidents.

It's important to let your neurons rest by distracting yourself with different things.

For example if a long hard work that required you to pay attention for half of the day made you tired, the best would be doing something that you don't have to pay attention like listening to music. It was rather the rule I followed after going home from school and playing video games. It really helped me to relax. But after an intense work all I wanna do is just shut down my brain for a month lol.

It also means it made me divide video games into "games to play for fun" and "games to play to relax". For example new video games are not something I could play to relax or have fun. They talk too much. Imagine being a kid listening to people for a long time and try to play such games. Imagine you walk around the city for hours and try to play the games force you to walk for hours. Imagine you do all the chores, and then video game forces you to do more chores. It does not make sense to me when video game industry is like this anymore. It was always important to have mindless fun gameplay to enjoy without story and dialogue.

I was in the same situation as you, so I let others decide what I play through a random list, then I stick to that even if the game is bad. That's the only way to discover games that I really like, through a sea of bad ones lol. I thought it would be harder at first, but it's being nice overall :)

No idea what to say about that now, play what you think about most.
By the way, welcome elder Dani! :). I believe your old account got infected by the PlayStore DS emulator, I am sorry :(

Put the games you want to play on this wheel and see which one is last on it. Eliminate every one but one like musical chairs (I like to call it Last Man Standing, cause that’s cooler) and whatever is left, that’s what you’re playing

Ease your mind. You should take long breaks. For example play sports outside, read a book, go walking, etc. Cognitive overload leaves you mentally drained & less productive.
100% agree that's why I'm on a social media detox rn and reduced my gaming time to like 3 hrs max per day I'm mostly learning how to skateboard rn and logging movies

I skateboarded back in the day, broken bones suck. But that shouldn't stop you from doing what you love.

It seems like you are burnt out. It's a terrible feeling.

Sometimes I wish social media didn't exist and that the internet was really limited. I remember when I was a kid, all I had was my PlayStation 1. Those were the better, simpler times. Now I understand why.

When I'm in that headspace only two things can solve it, wait some time, or find the most different weirdest game from what I typically enjoy and play it. Sometimes I don't even finish them and still enjoy the experience :loldog

Yes. We all sometimes feel a need to play this video game just to hard reset our brains lolol:

I do something like that ::omgdoom

Sometimes I fell the same way, in order to fix that I either get a hack for the game either to change the game a bit or add some much needed QoL. The other thing is that a lot of old game feel like a slog so I use the fast forward or frameskip feature together with save states in case I over do it with the fast forward.

Ocarina of Time in particular has a lot of cutscenes that if you already know what is happening it just ends up ruining the experience, i think randomizers completely remove the cutscenes. There is also Hyrule Field in which you just walk for a long time, multiple times.

There are also certain games that having it just constantly work a bit faster makes a night and day difference for me. The sweet spot depends on the game, but for me it's usually at 1.15x - 1.3x the usual game speed.

digital photography & video editing is a future career as well
Bro is you in my mind cause rs I was thinking about it for a while ever since I started enjoying watching films and stuff
Sounds like cognitive overload. Do something else that you enjoy for awhile. Like bungee jumping
Bungee Jumping seems interesting but as of now we don't really have it in our area

Echoing the burnout feeling, it's something I've went through especially as I lost time to responsibilities which made gaming feel less worth it as I couldn't put off things like work. Try to focus on something else you wanna do until you feel like picking up a game, even some simple activities like light reading or logging movies as you've been can do a lot for you.

This point is more of a personal thing for me, but I usually just wait until I really wanna play something on a whim rather than thinking of how to continue a game all the time. Having days off gaming where I just didn't feel like it has prevented me from falling out of playing for entire weeks out of burnout.

That's a great explanation of this phenomenon. Very clear and straight to the point. After playing video games for so long, I've became conscious about this naturally. Before, when i was tired or sad or any kind of mood really, i would force myself to play video games. Why? I don't know. Maybe it's how I deal with everything happening in my life. Nowadays, if i see that i'm forcing myself to play, then i think: "I'm not really feeling like playing anything right now" and do something else. I've started to draw again because of this phenomenon, to have something else to do instead of playing video games.
Anyways, thanks again for the crystal clear explanation! ::nyamcoawards

If you are interested in it then you may also be interested to know another side of the medallion: Why people can quickly get bored of a task, despite how simple it's, in like 1 minute when we can even so crystal focused on our very complex to do hobbies even for 12 hours.

We are a person, but more than that we are a being of a collection of chemical systems, but more than that we are a physical being as in we are made of particles and the energies.

How fundamental laws of physics effects our mind?: Any effect in our body can effect lots of things about our body that can make our mind react. I'll skip this but will say how our genes effects us.

Naturally we are made of genes, that you can consider as each gene a biological program that's tasked with making a part of our systems works.

For example when I develop a 2D video game I write these programs that's a fundamental part of my 2D video game:

- Sound Master. It is tasked with every sound-related event to happen.

- Time Lord: It's tasked with anything about time related event. When they should happen and how to pause the game.

- Animator: It's tasked with anything about animation. It makes objects change their visuals and how game behave when animation happens.

- No fun cop: It's tasked with unlocking video game content that was locked by default.

- Debugger: It's tasked with easing testing the game.

- Realm Walker: It's tasked with recording what value should be remembered for next time user runs the game so it serves as a save file saver and loader. It's a program that able to communicate with the OS and thus your storage device.

I mean there are many programs in video games that serves as "genes" of the video game. So imagine as a human we are made of such programs. Some of them are the reason why our hair color is the way it's, but they also change how we think and what we like.

In the end we all follow our programs because we cannot do anything, so we being a person as how our genes are. A human cannot do what they don't have the program "gene" of, when forced they feel bad and really hate what they do.

However, unlike how complex programs like video games are, human body has genes that's not always active. There are passive genes that may never be actived or they are only activated in certain conditions for forever or temporarily, and then we have a default set of genes that will always be active.

This is why as we get old even our personality changes. And it's why the concept of "like" and "dislike" is subjective aspect of our lives because naturally we cannot like or dislike everything. The only way to make a human like something, it should satisfy their main program systems: Surviving and producing. Most of our genes revolve around these 2 biological programs. We do anything we do because either it make us survive or we produce. Art can be a "highest and abstract" aspect of a human that they actually do to produce like they making baby lol. Why we may be interested in owning everything is basically because our biological feeling of thus we can survive. However, between "surviving" and "producing" there is the another program system "personality" that rather works like an AI, that it can learn and evolve. This is why as active genes changes and very nature of your genes changes in its own context, and as our knowledge and our believes change we become different version of ourselves despite our "core" personality cannot change. It seems more like the core is "SEGA Genesis" and additional aspects enrich our personalities like SEGA Genesis additions like X32 and CD and so on. If you played Persona video games, personality is like all the personas we add as a program into their "personality" so we can change the way we can be within the limitation of our "core". Only in that context humans have a free will to only choose between what they like and try to endure what they dislike.

In our nature we are like on a railroad as a train that can only go forward. It mean no matter what we do we always do what we want in the context of who we are. When people forced upon something they have no genes of, they go insane and wanna suicide.

In this context, as the more genes you have about related stuff the more you have more interest in it. So if a person is gamer, they have tons of genes related to being a gamer, then they have sub-program systems beyond biological programming. Gamers have the "gamer" biological programming. They invent games, they distract themselves with games then they have an urge to do.

So when you have a gamer program, the opposite of gaming will be boring to you. Bad feelings are the sensation you feel when your body cannot chemically react in the way according to your active genes. So when everything that effect your genes goes well with your active genes you feel good.

This is why, no one can be forced to like or dislike because it's not up to a decision. We don't actually have a free will, we rather react to everything happens as much as comes to our attention, but what we can choose is the different ways we can be.

Some people have active genes that is not about similar things, it makes then have more complex personalities. They have a variety of tastes, they are too interested in many things. It won't necessarily make them intelligent, which means "ability to think fast and in a branching way" because your intelligence depends on genes but also the mitochondrion amount in your brain, however intelligence doesn't matter when fools can be educated to do what's complex and right.

Then we have a memory concept that allows us to do without thinking. Thus, a fool person can act smart and we call it being wise. However, without wisdom being intelligent can endanger the whole world because fools can only hurt themselves and few people around them, smart people has the potential to destroy the whole solar system with themselves lololol.

So long story short, we gotta be who we are and what we do instead of believing X or Y is what we should do. If you don't like X then it's okay, no need to try to be a bird when you are a fish. Nothing wrong being a fish, just don't swim against the current because it will be pointless.

My programs analogy I mentioned to mean the default programs I write for my 2D games are also good way to tell, to make a human they have to have certain same default genes. In this context there are universally liked stuff among all humans but video games and lots of hobbiest are not part of universally liked stuff. So sometimes I see people really convinced themselves they love certain popular games but they do not, or they try to force themselves liking it like otherwise something is wrong with them. Personalities are unique therefore instead of being someone people gotta be themselves. Even identical twins cannot have the same personality because of what I mentioned and because of memory difference so naturally even identical twins will dislike or like different things. So all these stuff matters in the context of how to make yourself happy and knowing yourself to have a healthy life.

Intelligence level also heavily effect what we like and dislike, because of what we can do and what kind of layer of reality we can be aware of. However intelligence depends on mitochondrion amount in your brain but also how your brain make mitochondrion put into good use. There is no right or left brain, but certain tasks involve many regions in your brain. As more regions involved the more "perspective" you gain or misunderstand the situation. So intelligence is not an aspect of a life form that makes them "god", but rather it just changes the way they are.

So when a person lacks mitochondrion in certain level, it's understandable that they won't care about abstract emotional and contradicting interplay of logical aspect of the reality, as they don't have to anyway so they can only be interested in simple game of killing and producing. Saving hot girls is male fantasy after all lol. But when a person thinks more, the more they require mental simulation. While they may like "saving hot girls" they would want more, something worthwhile to put their brain into good use. But it depends on you too.

When sometimes I'm tired, I don't wanna bother thinking then I can dislike certain stuff that seem a drag to think. But then when I get back to it with a clear head I appreciate it so much I love it.

So we gotta know ourselves to know how to best treat our lives better to maximize our enjoyment from our life by minimizing the negativity.
