have you ever fallen victim to a scam?

I was very close (damn phishing), but I reacted at the last minute because the email account it was sent from and the site it linked to had small spelling differences on their addresses to the services they were mimicking and I was subscribed to.

tell me about it.

Drop shipper posed as a real seller on Etsy, found the "homemade" goods for cheap on AliExpress. Also always buy your Seagate directly from company the don't risk the case of a fake that'll quit on you in year without their warranty.

For Father's day in Mexico my dad recieved a Whatsapp about a beer company handing a free ice cooler full of booze, however before getting him in the contest i decided to make my own research and the thing was a Physing scam, my dad rapidly bailed, but i don't know what happened to the original poster and if he was another victim or the physing scammer

I got scammed repeatedly and got sick of it. Then I scammed someone out of spite and got banned. I felt bad aside from losing my account, and never scammed anyone again.

One time I sold a game on ebay, shipped it, and got a good review like normal. A few days later the buyer put in a claim on ebay saying they never got the game and paypal immediately took the money out of my account. Tried to call customer service but they said the review was not enough evidence and theres nothing I could do because I didnt get a shipping tracking number. Lost the money and the game. Always get a tracking number even if it costs extra.

almost. one day i was feeling really down at work (retail job) and some guy picked up on that and gave me his business card after telling me he'll find me a better place to work and that i should call him. i looked up his business and it was just some construction company. i felt like an idiot after that. also just kinda learned to accept where i was after that.

My father recently dusted off the old Super Nintendo. Was playing Mario and having fun, though he was annoyed that the power cord was a little touchy. Wiggle the SNES even slightly and the whole thing shuts off.

So I was going to try fixing it for him but he tells me it's all good, he ordered a replacement SNES off eBay. "It was only $70 brand new!" Oh boy...

What he bought was a SNES Mini. But of course there's no way you'd find a brand new one of those for that cheap either. It's one of the many chinese knockoffs with virtually identical packaging.

He's pissed and goes to buy a different SNES. I stop him and check his cart and he was about to purchase a SNES christmas ornament.

Tomorrow I'm going to set up an emulator on his pc. He can even have my 8bitdo SN controller. I never use it. It'll be a near identical playing experience. He insists he doesn't want to deal with that "complicated computer junk" but I'm having none of that lol.

I thought i was unscammable but i did fall for a very elaborate scam on a video game once and lost some valuable pixel items.

i didn't even realize i had been scammed until i really thought about it and figured out how they did it
and to their credit it was actually genius, so genius that i never told anyone exactly what happened and will take this dangerous information to the grave because less scammers = better world

When I was younger, I had Animal Crossing: Wild World, right and then one day I brought my DS to school to play at break time and then there was this one kid with the same game, he offered me to switch games and said he had many bells, all museum items and bugs etc, (I already had alot of bells and stuff ) so we switched games and when I reached home, I played the game with his save file on it, and guess what, the account had absolutley nothing on it, no bells no nothing, so I went back to school and I told him to give it back but he wouldn't so I told him that if he had given it to me I would do a download play of New Super Mario Bros. with him and he said "fine" and gave me back my game, so that was something...

Almost. Way back I had downloaded some form of trojan virus disguised as a media player that allowed some phishing group to steal enough information on me to start sending me threatening official looking emails demanding money - had my parents not helped me back then, I'm not sure what I would have done.

Oh and this wasn't really a scam, but someone somehow managed to steal my credit card info a couple years back and used it to buy a couple thousand dollars worth of stuff for themselves.
Still have no idea how they stole it or where they got it from. I did get my money back eventually though, lucky enough.

Quite recently, I met someone online while playing a Monster Hunter game in PSN. I helped him out by providing several RNG dependent quests I had but he didn't that would help him progress. I got a friend request from him and I accepted. He was grateful and he would often visit the online session I hosted and w'd play several quests together. He was quite chummy after that.

Then one day, he saw I was playing a certain game that he was interested in (through checking the friends list where you could see what games your friends are playing). Then out of the blue, he asked for my account details so he could play my game on his console. That immediately rang alarm bells in my head and he said pretty please through several messages. I just stopped responding and I never saw him again in my games.

I know it's the prudent and sensible thing to not give someone your account details who's not a very close friend or family member but I sort of feel bad. Was he a scammer? Would he have logged into my account and changed the password? Would he have just played the game and not mess up my account? I don't know but...why does anyone ask those things with people they don't really know if they mean well?

Anyway, I didn't de-friend him. His name is still there, still plays a lot of games but there's no contact with him whatsoever.
