ai is used for the military now. needless to say i will always be scared until ai is banned. we all will quite literally die from ai powered drones controlled by big tech and oligarchs in the future. that's a really fun thing to look forward to
 
AI is cool for funny weird shit
and sometimes porn
but i know certain people will just use it to make stuff like "OMG LOOK AT THIS DOG RESCUE THIS OLD LADY TOTALLY REAL!!11!!" or "NEW MOVIE TRAILER" and make profit off it from boomers mostly
 
I asked the browser AI a simple question:
Look at the videos in Playlist A on YouTube, and the videos and Playlist B on YouTube and list me games that appear in both Playlists. Simple right?
Well first it tells me that I can use playlist exporters blah blah, basically not want I was talking about at all.
When I respond "No, you parse the information and tell me. You're the tool." it came back that the only game that appears on both lists is Minecraft.
Friends... Minecraft did not appear in either Playlist once. They were two playlists of fighting games.

If you go five minutes into the video, he talks about a group of farmers that refused a $26 million deal with an AI company. I am happy to see people with big standards and not be pushed round by some big company.

 
I've visited this thread again, because my opinion has changed, and there are some points that seem to have not been addressed all that much.

That being said, this is going to be a whiney tirade of sorts, so feel free to ignore me.

As time goes on, my opinion on AI only gets worse. If the impetus to use it to arrest precriminals like a Minority Report law enforcement system, or to commit war crimes with objects that cant or wont refuse to act, or to automate more and more workers into unemployment wasn't enough to make me angry, it's the fact that anywhere and everywhere, we are practically being forced to use AI.

Instead of accepting that a degree of hardship and adversity is healthy, we are being encouraged to resort to having machines solve ALL of our problems. It's getting to a point where learning and education is being devalued even further. Education is great, because it allows us to become self sufficient to a large degree. It's great, because it allows us as individuals to understand more about the world, and to grow on our own, and to form our own opinions and thoughts! And that's why it terrifies me that a future where socities are incapable of deep thought, and run to objects to do any mental work is a remote possibility. A future like that feels like it would be a future where we all have become trivial to manipulate and control.

Want to learn about subjects, or science, or technology written by human beings? Here are AI generated news/wiki/blogs instead!

Want to talk to experts and passionate on technology/software/etc etc? Sorry, they're either fighting to stay employed, doing manual labor, or drowned out by a sea of frauds. Have you considered consulting LLMs from here on out?

Want to connect with artists, and to create memories with people who share the same hobby or passion as you? Have a sea of aspirationless, talentless dolts with zero frustration tolerance instead!

Want to engage in public discourse, and to have productive discussions with people who you do not share the same opinion as? Here are sock puppet accounts ran by AI either designed to make you angry, to astroturf opinions, or to disrupt discourse period! (To be fair, this was already a huge problem; But still, AI is dumping tankers worth of gasoline on the burning house.)

And what do supports/shills of AI tell us when we are worried about all the problems AI is creating, or when people get put out of business by AI? "Maybe you should start using AI, and stop doing things the 'outdated' way." Great! Fantastic. We're taking baby steps towards a dystopia, and we are being told to give up and double down instead of actually addressing the problem.
 
I use it to organize references and basically help me doing any kind of university investigation or document organizing, like index, references and stuff, and i always make sure to check every part of it, so basically...

Skynet works for me, and i keep a good vigilant eye on it.

Such a simple thread topic as "do you like ai or DOES IT GIVE YOU THE HEEBIE JEEBIES??" sounds like the perfect way to divide this website even more than it already is.

The main purpose of this discussion is to serve as a survey where everyone can freely express their opinion through an anonymous vote, however, in my introduction I never instigated any conflict or division among users; that is something users like you have assumed and self-certified in a purely personal way (based solely on that '.').

Furthermore, discussing Artificial Intelligence is not against the rules, nor is having a different opinion from a certain established group of people, provided it’s done with due respect for those on the other side of the screen.

In conclusion, there is no real Nintendo vs. Sega style war here, given that the silent majority (37% = 17 votes) doesn't care about AI; the second category accepts it as an invention (32.6% = 15 votes) [69.6 % = 32 votes], and only a vocal minority is unhappy with the situation (30.4% = 14 votes).

Therefore, if you don't like these discussions ignore them and move on to something else.

We've discussed things for a few pages here, but that doesn't mean that the premise of the thread isn't also heavily flawed. It is strange that you present things as being so data-driven when the poll questions are not objective or neutral at all.

Option 1: "Yes, it's something I've fully embraced" - This is the positive option, but it is hyperbolic. There is no room for nuance if you just go off of the poll results and ignore the discussion in the posts. Someone who voted for this in theory is completely on board with and fully supports the current implementation of LLMs in society. They aren't in favor of the concept but against the way companies are using it, or in favor of actual AI, not LLMs masquerading as artificial intelligence.

Option 2: "No, I'm still scared of it" - This is the negative option, and even more exaggerated. If someone picks this, the poll is inferring that they are against the current usage of LLMs based solely on fear. No other option for being against it is provided, such as environmental or societal concerns. Also, what does it mean "still afraid"? Is this inferring that people who are "afraid" now won't be later? It almost comes off to me as saying that someone "still afraid" is irrational for disliking AI and will change their mind later.

Option 3: "I'm totally indifferent" - The neutral option. The poll infers that someone picking this did so out of complete apathy, as opposed to being undecided due to curiosity, ignorance about the subject matter, or any other reason.

It really seems like you do want earnest discussion, and care about data, since you reference statistics often in this thread and others. Yet...these are some of the worst poll questions I've ever seen. I don't know how you could possibly think these would foster good discussion when they are inflammatory by nature and designed to railroad conversation towards conflict. The fact that things didn't completely go off the rails is a testament to how great the RGT community is. You claim someone thinking the poll options will lead to conflict is assuming and self-certifying...what does that even mean, aside from being very disingenuous? Just seems like a way to absolve yourself of responsibility if people argue because you led them there from a flawed premise.

It also seems insane that you would reference the poll results as proof of how people here feel when there are only three emotional options offered that clearly do not reflect the thoughts of posters in the thread. Do you really think that is scientific?

The fact that they didn't put in any other actual options is why I didn't bother with the poll in the first place and decided just to throw my own opinion, and say how much I hate AI usage.
 
We live in a corporatocracy, with or without AI slop invading all the corners of the internet. If people want to use it to make things, good for them: I'm still drawing and cutting things in the traditional way, but is a shame that looking for drawing references in the web is more harder than ever thanks to the endless variations of nothing. At least I keep a ton of magazines in paper, the physical media is going to be more important than ever.
 
I mainly see AI as a tool no more no less, I use it for code correction, image editing, image and song generation and so far, that it.
I even took a shot at making (and failing) my own model.

I don't agree with over reliance on it, nor do I strongly oppose it.
As a dev myself I don't see it as all encompassing, it's just a language model at the end of the day, but it can't truly learn anything.
And because it can't learn anything, it can only regurgitate what it currently knows.
It could never make a new art style on it's own, nor can it invent a new musical genre or come up with more efficient algorithms or frameworks without heavily relying or basing it on pre-existing theories or ideas.
In short it won't replace true mastery of art.

As for its use in war; well, what haven't humans used for war?
We used farming tools as weapons, it doesn't mean that farming tools are pre-disposed to this singular purpose.
Just like every tool and technology, it's all bound to be exploited and misused.
The issue that I think people have with AI is that it gives too much to be exploited and misused, but again that's just human history all over again.
The internet and telecommunications for example were originally intended for military purposes, but that didn't stop it from becoming something else.

I guess in short, what I want to say is that as long as humans are humans, someone somewhere will always do something bad regardless of what they can use.

Regarding OP: I use it very minimally. Sometimes it can help compile up research that other people have done and narrow things down for me so I can look into specific threads, forums, websites, etc. I don't use it much outside of some research assistance since it's a tool to be used and not something people should heavily lean on so much. It has its uses for sure but with how much some people can rely on it, it's almost like watching people lobotomise themselves in real time. The brain is a muscle. Stop using it and let AI do much of the work and your brain will turn to mush! (A slight exaggeration, but it's still important to give your brain a workout too!) Sorry I realise I sorta sound like an overbearing parent.
 
The issue with AI is how and when it is being used. Obviously there's ethical concerns in many ways BUT in the realm of the tech industry, many of the old guard whom are well versed in whatever their field is being let go from there jobs for refusing to use AI tools because a very skilled computer scientist or electrical engineer involved in silicon design can do the same job at least 5 times faster with the right AI tools, this is something that cannot be avoided in tech and any time new tools show up and they are refused to be adopted, these workers will be replaced. As for big tech letting lost of people go, it's not AI, it's because they all went crazy overfiring during covid, I was in Intel as an intern when they started letting lots of people go and it's because they went way over their 120,000 employee ceiling that they always made cuts whenever this happened. It's also why Amazon had a back to office mandate so people will quit instead of having to let them go, and sure enough, not enough people quit so they let lots go.

This AI use in tech also includes video games going forward, since it is tech based, since it's literal programming and we are made use this stuff, it's not a choice, however having AI generated base code that is later refined by a human or the AI is helping to fix bugs in an already existing script DOES NOT MEAN IT IS DEVELPOED BY AI!!, it doesn't mean there is no artistic merit behind it. Now if someone did art themselves and got AI to clean up the image for example as opposed to tweaking it for hours using a manual process that could take a few days, AI can do all the mini editing much faster, however if 99% of what was originally done in that image was painstakingly done by a human, an AI clean up does not make it AI.

Anything that is 100% pure AI though and a company doesn't declare it and is passing it off as original work, by all means call that out, especially when it comes to anything visual or creative.

As someone that has watched AI came along within tech and during my degree, some of the AI stuff is genuinely just a strawman, much of it has actual useful merit, instead of trying to solve a bug over 3-4 days I can solve it in a hour with AI assistance, trust me there's problem solving and then there's taking 4 days for something to "just work".

My fourth year project uses AI from hugging face for example, but it's one lousy script that keeps it in check to make sure it's only doing what it is meant to be doing, that I programmed myself, however the entire app was programmed by me, a human.

Lets be real here though, it's become a massive strawman that twitter and discord lose their shit over. A friend of mine that needs to use AI at times on his work for debugging and problem solving, even he picked up the discord anti AI stuff because it's essentially mass hysteria at this stage, which was ironic as he's aware of the difference but he's channelling the outrage of other people ::sailor-embarrassed .

I've used it but haven't fully embraced it. GenAI was used in the creation of games like Clair Obscure: Expedition 33, Arc Raiders, Crimson Desert, etc. While you'll have some corners of the internet unhappy with AI (Reddit or ResetEra), it isn't going anywhere. Consumers have spoken with their wallets and they don't care, for better or worse. As long as it's limited as it was with those games, I'm not all that concerned. AI slop that litters digital storefronts that's often accompanied with AI art, however, should be removed, and to Sony's credit, they've removed a bunch of it over the past month.
 
Even Take-Two can't make everything AI, because it's a waste of time, resources, and people who want to make actual games. They should have not bothered in the first place.
