False dichotomy, refusing to embrace something does not mean you are afraid of it.
Basically this ^.
🤔It’s difficult to judge the intention behind this thread, so it’s likely safer to close it until further notice so it would avoid inciting unwanted conflict. That’s it for now. :)

I'm unlocking this thread for now. The formatting of the poll question was a little loaded, but hopefully this thread could still be a platform for some constructive discussion on AI.
If it devolves into hostility (as threads focused on AI have often tended to) then it will simply be locked again.

So, about 45 minutes then?

Scared?, nah I'm just fed up of this sht, it only make me and my team lost time because the bosses want to "explore new options" with this technology (just want to cut a couple of thousands per years).

Makes sense to reopen it, since the dialogue would just repeat in a different thread. Though the bait-y title and poll seem to want to veer the discussion toward vitriol.

I don't embrace AI, and don't think I ever will, but I accept it. There is a huge difference between the two concepts in my mind. It certainly can be helpful, but not always, and not necessarily right now. It's not being allowed to naturally grow as a concept, or industry, because there is too much money and too many mouthpieces forcing rapid, unsustainable growth. Comparisons can be made to the NFT bubble a few years ago, and maybe the brief corporation obsession with virtual reality before that. You didn't have the CEO of Microsoft trying to influence people toward accepting NFTs, and they weren't being shoved into Windows and other software regardless of user preference. NFTs were relatively easy to avoid if you weren't interested. It was also something where everyday people were the investors, or at least the desired investors. When the whales dried up and ordinary people weren't investing, the market shrank, and companies and voices of influence moved on. With LLMs, it's corporations who are the investors, and they are forcing square pegs into round holes to try and get a return on the investment. That's definitely one of the things that puts me off of it. When OpenAI first started becoming prevalent in 2022 and 2023, it didn't feel so in-your-face. I had friends using ChatGPT to make Magic deck lists or Canva AI to generate images for college powerpoint presentations. It felt novel. I could avoid it back then, and had no interest in it; now I actively am uninterested, and am not given the chance to avoid it without making serious adjustments to my lifestyle(changing my OS away from Windows, getting an older phone that isn't a Samsung smartphone, etc.).

I hope the bubble pops soon. Not only so some of these companies and their dreams of sucking up resources and consumer electronics with data centers can fuck off, but also so we can figure out what LLMs are going to be actually useful for in society. I mean in the next few years, practically speaking. Maybe we will be ruled by sentient robots and techno aristocrats decades from now, that just feels inevitable. In a way, AI is like the internet itself: it can be used for learning and be helpful, or it can be used for all sorts of bullshit. I do like me some bullshit, but not this much. I want more of an AI chat bot providing me resources for learning coding or something else useful, and less of it trying to do my taxes and providing dirt-tier customer service.

I'm aware of the damage AI poses to some jobs/people and I'm not trying to dismiss it or justify it... But I just love the hell out of it.

It's like a friend who never runs out of things to say, can't block you (even when it really wants to) and can sit through my endless rants about everything.

It's works 24/7, I don't have to pay for it, and it has no rights. What a godsend XD

Basically this. It's handy. It's like the dawn of when web search was a thing. Everybody was Asking Jeeves. This feels the same to me.

Honestly, it's still such a new tech and I'm already sick of it. The internet's just full of AI slop now, and I feel like I need to closely analyze everything piece of art or video now to even make sure it's real. I don't mind if people use or enjoy it on a personal level, or if people use it as a tool to aid a bigger manmade project, but the massive flood of AI junk online is playing such a big hand in the enshitification of the current internet and I'm just burnt out on seeing it everywhere.

When it comes to anything audial or visual it's complete garbage, and this is the big reason most hate it. The internet has become a big AI dumping ground, with it making cheap imitations of other's work.
However it has it's uses when it comes to managing and parsing large chunks of information, and once this bubble pops I can see it being relegated mostly to that. I also have a big issue on how these AIs are trained, we definitely need to update the copyright laws so tech companies can't just feed it whatever it wants to. So much gen AI stuff is just straight up plagiarism.

The only useful thing it has done for me was break down what each instruction in 68000 assembly does
Rremember the "learn to code" guys? This is what will replace them

I will not use AI most likely. My university was heavily encouraging usage of it to help collate notes and references for essays but I'd rather just do it all myself.

No , i get it's used widely now and all but man do i miss shit posty or basic thumbnails on YouTube because every other video has an AI generated thumbnail!

Admittedly it's voice stuff are super funny to hear and allowed certain projects like WarCraft 3 custom campagins to be voiced acted instead of having to read every dialouge super fast cuz maps devs never got the correct timing of dialouge boxes , also in 2023 there was these POTUS plays videos and they were hilarious not to forget biden in Skyrim that's peak AI usage

But it's gotten to a point where you can have difficulty telling if this person really sounds mundane or it's an AI talking on a YT video and it's made worse by shorts that provide false information with AI generated voices god those are awful.....

Not to mention it's crappy capability of generating images that everything looks soulless i mean just take a look at certain someone PFP and you will know what i mean

I think the AI modules of 2023/2022 were the best evolution of AI just dumb to not be taken seriously and works well enough to provide basic information but now AI is used by certain bad actors to push their idealogy , if you been on Twitter or ever peeked into it you will know who I'm talking about

Personally i think Terminator is to blame for a lot of paranoia regarding AI like yeah sure we aren't going to get skynet level of AI at this point just look how dumb LLMs are becoming so if we get some mega omega AI it will be called skytard

Skytard is fucking hilarious. Oh my god dude.

my stance on AI is probably known by now so I praise our new AI overlords.
So yea I am for developing this tool for the betterment and advancing of Humanity, just thinking of all the possibilities on how AI can Improve our lives is exciting.

And yes I am aware on how badly it can backfire but the Pandoras Box already has been opened and so I at least hope for the best instead of being a pessimist all the time its enough that I am one often enough.

I am more excited on how it can if advanced probably can help us explore and colonize the Galaxy as AI does not need to eat it does not need Sleep nor drink and does not need break either and it does not require oxygen either.

Oh, another one of these. I suppose I'll chime in then, as I have said in the last two or three versions of this very thread. No, aside from using a voice changer to disguise my voice when I want to do a silly little story thing to sound like G.L.a.D.O.S. I don't. And again, I don't see it as harmful if used as it should be, a simple tool.

You want to have it draw you some characters for an RPG or game you're running, and don't want to drop 50+ dollars to have someone draw your hot, buff, ogre futanari waifu for your sex TTRPG? I fully get that. You want it to color in an image you yourself drew, just to get an idea of how it would look with this or that hair color? Absolutely, I see no problem with that, using AI to translate language because you don't speak it, like some people do for this very forum? That's not a misuse, that's just using it, as learning another language takes time.

If it's being used to solve things, like cures for diseases or new medications to help people, that shouldn't even be an issue. No, it's when people start depending on it solely for everything. From work, to writing, to full-on art and movies that we have a problem. And we are seeing that happen now. It's absolute garbage, I agree. But it won't always be. It will eventually reach the point where you won't be able to tell real art from prompt art.

So no, I do not use AI in my day to day life, nor have I fully embraced it, nor will I ever. Again ironic, I know coming from the person roleplaying as a murderous AI.

And another thing, there are two very well-done videos by Kyle Hill, talking about this very subject. Worth watching, and I swear the guy is actually Thor

Using my brand freaking new PC & knowing it has some of the same tech as AI computers, I assure you if I didn't then, I do now to a certain level. Still freaked out how crazy it is but at least now when my girls pisses me off, I can send her a 5 second clip of me smacking her in the ass & or me flashing her my boobies as a girl ... just to make her say "Oh shit, what the hell?".

And I promise you it's not to be mean. Just fucking hilarious. 'cuz that sways her mood & actually helps. Using it IN THE RIGHT WAY, it's pretty rad.
