Official, homebrew, hack, anything

I run a fighting game blog and have no reason to post Hatsune Miku, but I'm also a massive autist and really want some Miku stuff on there

Is this just me not noticing her but she got a massive "revival" on the Internet? I mostly remember old memes from the late 2000's early 2010's yet she was less shown until like 2-3 years ago.

Like yes and no imo. I get what you're saying and I agree kind of but I think it's more nuanced than that. I don't have the words, or statistics, or anything to properly articulate what I mean but I feel like, whenever Miku is hitting peak popularity in the East, she's not as popular in the West and vice versa. Like, 2008-2013, that's western meme time, 2014-2019, that's everything in the East has to be ______ X Miku/Vocaloids (have you ever seen the Chinese Jason Statham Miku ad?), then 2020-2026 Miku is back to being everyone's favourite pseudo-meme. I think we're on a decline though, so hopefully we'll start getting decent crossovers again like the Monster Hunter stuff

Funny enough SEGA has made a number of fighting games few that could have fit her as guest slot as Akira and Selvaria were in dengeki bunko fighting game as well as PSO map, and miku was prominently in few many collabs in PSO2 (Japan), and that is about as close as it gets officially. Since SEGA seems to have videogame Miku rights maybe there will be a outfit or skin in new Virtua Fighter.

To answer OP's question, no not really outside of fanmade MUGEN Miku's.

Crypton Future Media actually isn't SUPER crazy about inserting Miku into crossover's where she inflicts violence against human foes, and they've actually had a hard rule against this for years that's only really been loosened up since her appearance in Fortnite. Stuff like Monster Hunter and Super Robot Wars got by on a technicality since she's fighting monsters/mechs in those and not directly engaging other humans.

Even now, Crypton still prefers to keep Miku with a non-violent image as much as possible, so outside of a more lighthearted or cartoonish fighter like Smash, it's extremely unlikely she'll ever appear in a commercial fighting game outside of maybe a character color reference

So you don't leave empty handed, Fillia's Color 9 in Skullgirls is a clear Miku shout-out, so there's that.

there's also a mod for city of the wolves that Swaps Miku over the DJ that fits pretty well, even does the voice. idk if Miku's ever been officially featured in a fighting game.

Here's a hypothetical look of what an anime fighter V4X Miku might look like that's been floating around the internet for a while for another bonus

Kinda curious why you feel this way, as 2025 was pretty massive for Miku and Vocaloid between the movie, crossovers with Gundam and Fortnite, and video/song playcounts still skyrocketing. Another Vocaloid/Miku inspired movie just dropped with an OST done by Vocaloid old-guard producers, and Ryo (Melt, World is Mine) just came out of retirement and released his first Miku work in over 13 years. If anything, it feels like we're currently on a runaway hype train imo.

Imo (I haven't done any extensive research on this or anything so this is really just based on what i'm casually seeing) I think the fortnite crossover was the end of peak mainstream appeal in the west

Ah ok, fair. I admittedly tend to not mentally separate the East/West stuff so much and look more at the bigger picture which seems to be incredibly healthy at the moment. I do feel the English speaking fandom is in a fairly good place still though, just not quite riding the Mesmerizer/Fortnite momentum as firmly, which is ok as these things ebb and flow.

Yeah totally, I agree with you, I'm mostly just talking out my arse cause I sorta felt where Ikagura was coming from
But in general though, yeah, typing out western and eastern audiences made me feel really uncomfortable hahaha
