Has RGT been slowing down

it feels like RGT has been slowing down over the start of 2025. when I first joined it feels like there were post and comments every 10 sec but not it feels more like 40- 1min
but at the same time it just could be me idk. so what your take on this?
That one guy quit spamming 900 threads a day, so that could have a lot to do with it

I mean, it's the natural course of a slower mode of internet community like a forum. Not everything needs to be on 24/7 (we already have discord for that anyway) I would say that the site stabilized to what's most likely it's average activity level going forward. There were many threads being opened and discussed on at the beginning because the place was empty, now that we filled it out more, there's no need for that anymore.

The only thing I "lack" is more threads and comments discussing things that are happening, but I guess it's in the nature of a retrogaming community to not pay much attention to that.

Btw we are yet to announce this I think? but permanent bans will no longer be issued.
Only in the case of pure spambots or accounts made specifically to break the rules will we use ban.
How come? My first thought is might that not lead to people bending the rules in order to be as toxic as possible when they know that they have nothing to lose from it being assholes?
Will they get muted instead or something?

I would assume that pushing the rules by being an arsehole all the time comes under "making an account only to break the rules" and would therefore be one of those things you can still get permabanned for.

In terms of actual numbers, the amount of posts has been pretty consistent. There's only one major spike in all of that, and it was when the Forum Games/Chatter section was made, and Waffles kicked off AMA threads. The post count doubled for a couple weeks after that, and it's steadily dropped back down to the previous level as those got old.

Spike said spambots and rule breakers are the ones that are getting banned. The No.1 rule is don’t be an asshole.

I wager this means that people will get banned for 30 days or some other arbitrary period so they can cool off a little instead of simply being forced to make a new account.

This. He said "permanent bans will no longer be issued" but he didn't say "a ban can be set for 9000 days but that isn't permanent" ::winkfelix

What happened between Jan 10 and Jan 14? That's a pretty good spike.
I joined when pretty much all the CDR content had been moved to the repo (most links directed to RGT). My theory would be that it was due to a boost in users as more and more content was being moved to the repo around that time.

Oh okay, that sounds logical.
Didn’t stop to think that a ban could be non-permanent!

It might be true that the discussion is slowing down, but is it not somewhat anecdotal also? To me, things are slowing down, but I'm basing that off of notifications for the threads I check regularly. Pixel Trivia and the date thread, for example, do seem to have less activity. However, there are lots of other sections of the forums with threads that I wouldn't be notified about because I haven't read them yet. They could be super active for all I know.

I think some of the folks that were chatting in general discussion before things were temporarily locked down may have not returned yet. Others like Gorse and MistHunter deleted their accounts, so their posting has obviously ceased. Plus in some areas of the world summer is starting, so starting or stopping work/school/etc. will affect someone's free time. I hear some people also go outside during the summer, apparently, I guess? Sounds weird to me.

Definitely feels like it's been winding down to me too. With a number of regular's leaving the site or becoming more inactive. I know I haven't been feeling it the same lately either. It's possible the "Honeymoon phase" of a new site and forum is simply wearing off a bit for a lot of users too.

it is the beginning of summer and both regular school and colleges have final exams around this time; usually mid to late may and early june, depending on the set up for each school. people also take vacations and travel around this time; so people are most likely off and about in the real world, doing stuff. they will come back in a little while.

I can only speak of myself, but I tend to be more online active during the southern hemisphere spring-summer months, during fall and winter my job and responsibilities are a lot more hectic.

I think it's better that there isn't any. Current events are constantly talked about on social media, to the point you'd basically need to be exclusively on Tumblr to avoid it. Even then, it does take a bit of pruning and filtering. I'd imagine most discord servers have it in part of regular discussions, as well. Having places that are breaks from the horrors of the world is very necessary to reduce stress.

That's true. Sometime it can *feel* like things are slowing down after seeing familiar faces you've built rapport with move on, but we get new faces all the time too, and in time they become familiar faces.

Just like what @Cheela's said, some come and go, some are just starting to get busy, some are just on vacation and some are probably going through stuff

I think it's as active as a forum can be in 2025. You know, most people just don't like using these older style social websites like they do Twitter, Instagram, Discord, etc. I think it's quite fine the way it is. For me? I'd rather not talk about my feelings on the matter.

Maybe it's the natural order of things? Slowly everyone would disconnect and in a couple years RGT would be a ghost town? Possible to occur if everyone needs to work and life will got progressively more difficult then this might happen

Hope not tho
