Has anyone tried out the Starfox 64 PC port yet?

hmm.... not what i was expecting.
assault does have its problems. i noticed that a long time ago when i first played it. space sections felt kind of slow. a little easier than 64. some of the levels definitely need redesigning. the fort level is fine, the space base and the aparoid colony level need to be smaller. corneria was alright, mostly with the infinite gun that you get for the boss fight.
command was weird. it would have been better with one path and little bonus and side missions that you can play later that add to the story. several endings don't even acknowledge those guys even existing after a certain point.

I can give Command credit for one thing, and that's for giving Krystal an actual personality.
 
Which also makes the game faster sadly.

The game is challenging enough at normal speed.
That's a bummer. Double edge sword of fixing slowdowns in shooters I guess. And what's your take on patched Super R-Type?

Krystal is a bit of a furbait character, she was less useful post-Adventure.

On the other hand Panther Caroso was a good new rival that was better than that Pig.

I expected Starwolf to become more independent post-Andross.

And to see more squadrons and private militias.

Panther Caroso is a terrible character who exists only to make Star Wolf look like anti-heroes.

Starwolf have always been rivals that only worked for the highest bidder, they don't care about Andross' conquering ambitions.

And honestly this is a good evolution of the characters to become allies to Starfox (akin to Vegeta who also became an antihero despite being a rival antagonist).

Things have to evolve, we cannot have Andross yet again as the major antagonist.

Nintendo fans are already annoyed at Ganon and Bowser being always the big bad guy in the Zelda and Mario franchises. They do the same thing for 30+ years, it's time for change.

This is why Mario fans love when the RPG spinoffs introduced other villains or when Zelda had other antagonists like Vaati or Majora.

Back to the Starship conversation: it would be perfect if people modded a new campaign or bosses in there.

I'd be wondering if they'll add back the Ex Zodiac stuff into Starship. We already saw the ship in Starfox EXploration Showcase on the SNES.

yeah, the medal requirement is 300. the most in the game if i remember correctly. just finished sector z.

Yeah, I'd be curious to see the final product but I'm less fan of the Free Range levels.

The original is mostly an acquired taste.


The PC port should add a "level select" for training.
 
couldn't attach all of the screenshots that i wanted to, but i have a couple from the beginning and some from the end, no spoilers; and general pepper said "What!?" at the invoice screen.
i do think i saw a bug though. you can see it in the results screen pic and the second map pic. nothing major, most likely just a glitch.

that sounds terrifying. i quite like the level though. i've never unlocked expert mode. maybe someday.

On the other hand while I deeply respect that PC port of Starfox 64 I would've absolutely loved if the original SNES game had that treatment (widescreen + 60 FPS + high resolution) as I love the OST and visuals.
Daily reminder that Nintendo has proven they could actually create a remaster of Starfox but only for a silly micro game boss.


Even Sega did that effort for one of their earliest polygonal 3D game
 
Why make a remaster when you can wait for people to port on modern systems, then repackage it all if there's any interest. The Nightdive remaster model.

Aside from one or two hiccups Nightdive did a good job for most.

Sadly the more time goes on the more we find remasters that aren't 1:1 to their original.
