Hey there's been several instances in which I download God of War from the repo but the game won't start, it freezes at the Sony Entertainment screen, is this an emulator config issue or an ISO issue?

That's because the game is way to awesome, and the emulator can't handle it.

It might actually be that your video drivers need an update. Or as you said it may be that the emulator is configured incorrectly. What BIOS are you using for it?

Let me grab it and I'll try it on my end

It'll be a few minutes before it's done. I have other files downloading, and that's slowing it down. But these take precedence over the ISO, sorry. If it works fine, I'll cap my settings and post

Thanks, I'm using SCPH39001.bin USA for the BIOS

Alright, I'll try that first and see if it hangs. If so I'll try mine. I have multiple BIOS files for the PS2, so I'll see which one gets into the game, if any of them.

Ok, it did freeze with SCPH39001. Here are my settings using SCPH10000, which worked

I hope this works for you. I don't know what else it could be, perhaps a VideoDriver update or something

You should use ALWAYS the latest bios released to avoid problems. I use SCPH90001 also known as 2.30.
In some cases, yeah. But newer isn't always better. The SCPH10000 BIOS I use there has never had a problem with any PS2 game to date

Perhaps it's misdetecting the game region since it worked well with the japanese one and not the other?

I would try the latest bios of the correct region and, if that doesn't work, then try lower versions from there. Also make sure the emulator is up to date as some games require specific settings that the emulator automatically enables, assuming, again, it's up to date.

Also, if you've been using the emulator for a long time and have been progressively jumping from version to version, it might be worthwhile to start fresh. Do backup your saves, however.

Tried it still freeze might be a video driver issue which I think I'm up to date so I think I won't able to run it anyway

Alright basically I did what @RageBurner said, deleting the PCSX2 directory and staring from scratch, now GoW II boots, it had the same issue as the first one, now I have to deal with the backup I had from my saves.

Ah, sorry my thing didn't work. Glad you got it going though I had never had that particular problem, so I have never had to do the fix Rageburner mentioned. Again, sorry I wasn't more help

Using ps2 bios from ps3 works. Using Direct3D 12 renderer on my Radeon 7800 XT gpu instead of vulkan, I noticed lag.
