Left in Japan GEAR Up For A Full Metal Beatdown

We all know that the PlayStation is the home of some great games of its era. Sadly most of them never see the light outside the land of the rising sun. Like today’s game this one is a cool Japanese exclusive beat ‘em up based on a mecha anime

GEAR Fighter Dendoh for the PlayStation is a beat ‘em up game based on the anime series with the same name. Produced by Sunrise this anime is the first studio project that uses digital cel painting which was later be the standard beginning with Mobile Suit Gundam Seed.

The game follows the exploits two boys Ginga and Hokuto as they pilot the mecha Dendoh as they fight of the Galfa Empire who’s been on total domination.

The game puts you in control of the titular mecha through nine levels which was divided into several segments. Like most beat ‘em ups the boss battles awaits at the end of each level.

Aside from your typical combo attack, jump, item and weapon pick ups which is a staple for the genre you also have access to some special attacks. Special attacks which can be executed by inputting a certain fighting game commands and some “super” attacks you can use as long as your power meter is full.

And of course every beat ‘em ups most engaging part the boss battles. There are two types of boss battles in this game the first is the 2D boss fight which acts as you typical boss encounter a guy that dishes out insane barrage of attacks sometimes accompanied by some grunts and second is the 3D one on one a la fighting game battle.

There you go guys and gals, a game that can be enjoyed through long play (which isn’t really that long) or a short burst because you have an option to save your game after each level. An anime mecha beat ‘em up that’s really easy to pick up and with a balance difficulty which you can really enjoy be it you’re an anime fan or not.

Again thank you very much for spending time with my cringe yapping.
This is Stingy Perry signing off!

Pros
  • + Fun and quick to pick up
  • + Tight and intuitive controls
  • + Detailed and smooth sprite animation
Cons
  • - Too short like most beat ‘em ups which can be finished in an hour or so

Sound
Music and effects really fits the game.

A short game which you can pick and play however like most beat ‘em ups it’s short and doesn’t offer much as for unlockables is concern.

Overall
Gameplay is paced good even though it’s a quite a short game in general. Like most beat ‘em ups the highlight of the game are the boss fights. Overall a fun game that is quick to pick up and play for a short burst.
One of the best PS1 videogame adaptations back then definitely. Simple, straight, short, look interesting at the first glance and might introduce you to the great source material that is the anime as well. A game that would go inside the back of your head after finishing it, but at later time you would remember fondly of whenever you got reminded of it.
Nice review. ::thank-you

A great game based on a great anime that really aged well. In fact after playing this game for some screenshots it made me wanna watch the anime once again and I did. I felt the same excitement as if I was watching for the first time.

How did it happen? I thought you just changed your profile name. Have you tried to contact the Mods through DM and asked for their help?

EUI'll try but let a moderator know and let my friends who follow me know that I've been without my account for a few days and ask some moderators if they can fix it.An idiot to put an email from a Google account that I no longer have because they don't add one of the ways to create an account Please ask them to resolve this for me, as I want to return my account to my profile because I miss it.

For a mecha themed Beat 'em up game from 2001 on the PS1 it looks good and besides being a little known anime but the game has good gameplay, good graphics and good sound and a story that is not bad and by the way very good your review Stingy 👍🏻👍🏻.

EHey Nelson I'm going to rest for a while I'll be away for a few months To relax I'm very nervous and exhausted
