this is true. kanto and jhoto are real world locations that are like this. kanto is more developed while jhoto is more rural. johto is a made up name it seems but i found this snippet on google:My personal Pokemon headcanon is that Kanto is specifically known as the most technologically-advanced of all the regions in the series, with Johto being its quirky backwards neighbour country full of hicks and Orre being the gritty criminal underworld that no decent person wants to visit. I hate how all the new games' settings are just "IT'S LIKE A REAL COUNTRY, WITH POKEMON TO MATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
