For example:
  1. People think Mario the Lost levels didnt release in the west due to its difficulty, but it was actually not only that but also that it was too similar to the first game.
  2. People think that Toby Fox made undertale all by himself, but he actually had a team to work on the game

It no longer applies now but the whole saga of Bigfoot in San Andreas is what I got reminded of. For a certain period of time people were convinced Bigfoot was actually in the game, mostly the kids that played the game. Again I doubt anyone now believes that to be true but it was interesting to see how convinced some were of this "fact". You can put Loch Ness Monster in Vice City in this category as well. Thinking about it the GTA series seems to have it's fair share of these secrets or facts associated with their games which turn out to be false.

Hmmm i'm not talking about gaming urban legends

First time that i hear of this
The AVGN — inadvertently — started/spread this one on his SEGA 32X review.

I remember my friends talking endlessly about a certain cheat code that would get you to fly one of the passenger jets in VC. It's pretty hilarious, looking back, because that plane isn't even fully implemented into the game — the wheels don't spin, the waypointing is all wrong, and the model doesn't even move, just sort of lurches forward.

People think Toby Fox made all the songs by himself for undertale, but he blatantly stole parts of songs he likes and added them into his game

Fair enough. Then I'll probably go with the Shenmue being the game that invented QTE's. Surprisingly I've come across a lot of people who seem to think it's true(I for a time even believed it because of it). Obviously there a couple of games that predate Shenmue when it comes QTE's. I guess some confused popularizing with inventing.

isn't Dragon's Lair the first one?

Yeah that is what seems to be considered the first one but Shenmue is the primary one that gets brought up whenever QTE's are discussed up to the point a good chunk of people think it invented them. Then again depending on who you ask inventing QTE's might not be such a badge of honor :loldog.

People think Ocerina of time "invented" target lock on, but the industry as a whole had been attempting various versions for several years and other games already had versions pretty close to what OoC ended up using.
For example(s): Mega Man Legends used the R trigger to lock onto and auto face a near by target. the only difference being you could not move during this lock on.
The first two Tomb Raiders both allowed you to lock onto a target as long as you were attacking it, and the camera followed said target.
Nightmare creatures used a soft lock, which allowed you to strafe around nearby enemies
These are just some examples, and all predated OoT.
Interestingly enough, other games that came out a handful of months after OoT used similar systems. like Soul Reaver. now you could argue they were inspired by OoT, but1 the release window wasn't wide enough for them to have arguably revamped 100% of their combat system to copy another game. It's much more likely they had that system in place much longer. Meaning the industry as a whole had been zeroing in on that version of targeting.
What nintendo did was effectively combine ideas and made the camera more zoomey. They "invented" nothing. They were merely the first to use a version of target lock that became more standard. So in fact most of the games "inspired" by OoT in this regard were in fact not, or barely were at all.

A lot of people use the term "invented" when they most likely mean "popularized". Look at the concept of pokemon being the first creature capture game. SMT games had them beat by years.
The first game with monster capture/taming wasn't Dragon Quest V?

The Nuclear Gandhi in Civilization 1 wasn't caused by any overflow bug or glitch, it's just a rumor most likely spread by the irony of our perception of his irl person while seeing him use nukes just like any other AI player

It’s like Miyamoto omitting that Zelda was inspired by Ultima and Wizardry, citing only environmental inspirations.

I don't think Nintendo would openly admit to drawing inspiration from demons to create cute little critters, lol.

Doom isn't the first 3d game. It's not even the first 3d first person game. That goes to 3d Monster Maze
I've never heard anyone call Doom the first 3D game. I've heard people call it (or Wolfenstein 3D) the first FPS game, although that title arguably belongs to one of a handful of games that are over a decade older..

Final Fantasy wasn't given the name because it was 'the last ditch effort to save a failing company'. The initials 'FF' just sounded cool to the devs as an abbreviation in Japanese. In fact, they were going to go with the title 'Fighting Fantasy' before realizing there was a tabletop rpg series with the same name and they wanted to avoid confusion, so 'Final' was chosen basically at random.

I say this half jokingly, but in Final Fantasy XIII (my favourite game) you can hold right on abilities to repeat the last sequence you inputted for that role even if you change out and back of roles, seeing SO many people re-input 5 Fires (which isn’t even a good sequence) drove me nuts lol… even more so that I also did that the first time I played it too…

>Symphony of the Night was the first metroidvania

It's not, Simon's Quest predates it and Vampire Killer on the MSX was already experimenting with said mechanics.

>Sonic 3 & Knuckles were separated because they couldn't fit into the same cart.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles were separated because of a McDonalds promotion happening at that time. They decided to split the game in two in order to meet the deadline.
